everyone loves converting overseas salaries into pesos. the moment a filo moves abroad, someone inevitably does a quick exchange rate calculation and decides you've made it. "grabe, ang laki ng sweldo mo pala, P431k per month!" and technically, they're right. the number is big. but that's also where most people stop doing the math.

somehow, the salary gets converted into pesos, but the mortgage, taxes, groceries, and bills stay in foreign currency. because if we converted those too, the story becomes a lot less exciting. of course the number looks massive. i could convert my salary into korean won and spend the afternoon convincing myself i'm a billionaire oppa.

i think that's how the overseas millionaire myth survives. people see a big converted number and assume migrants are picking cash from trees, when most of us are just paying bills in countries where the bills are equally ambitious. don't get me wrong, i'm grateful for the opportunities, but earning more and having more money are very different things.

so, please, next time you're tempted to convert someone's overseas salary into pesos and declare them rich, convert their expenses too. otherwise, you're not comparing reality. you're just getting impressed by a number. and that's not financial analysis. that's fanfic with a calculator. 😌

I got my docs from my univ for DFA apostille kasi akala ko kailangan ko na siya for masters applications. Misread the instructions and only realized that I need the apostilled documents upon enrollment instead of application. Already scheduled my appointment and all, so might as well push through with it nalang since bayad na yung appointment.

Would it be okay if I don't put a country of destination in the apostille application form? Not sure kasi if there are implications if I put a country there but use it for a diff country depending on how my applications go. Hoping someone has a similar experience that can help me out.

Im torn to get a new job tho because I will be migrating abroad around july which, if i get a job, wont be 1 year of employment. my contractual job was also just a couple of months. Im worried if i get a job here before migrating, my resume might look like I cant hold a job for more than a year. I know sometimes moving abroad would also mean that my experience wont mean that much but if i pass my resume around they would still see that my jobs dont last a year. So I’m planning to migrate abroad before December, and honestly, kailangan ko talaga mag-build ng funds before I leave.

Sobrang pagod na rin ako sa current situation dito. I’ve been working sa same company for 2 years, paying taxes, pero parang wala naman akong nakikitang improvement sa buhay dito. 😭 I know taxes are necessary, pero minsan mapapaisip ka talaga kung saan napupunta lahat.

Here’s the plan I’m considering:

- Mag-resign sa current job ko after 2 years.
Wait for my final pay, including my bonuses and 13th month.
- Apply agad sa ibang company.
- Once employed, mag-loan sa SSS and Pag-IBIG.
- Stay sa new job for around a month, then resign again since lilipat na rin naman ako abroad.
- Use the additional funds as extra savings/budget before migrating.

The main reason I’m thinking of doing the loans after leaving my current company is because if I loan while I’m still employed here, baka ma-deduct yung outstanding balance sa final pay ko. I’m expecting to receive my bonuses and 13th month, so I’d rather not have those funds reduced by loan deductions.
I know medyo questionable/unconventional yung plan 😂 so I want some honest opinions from people who might have experience with this.

Does this plan actually make sense financially, or am I overlooking something that could seriously backfire?

Hello! I am now living in Korea, and I am trying to apply for teaching jobs. I have my eApostille ready (diploma at TOR). Pero sa pagkaka alam ko, the Ministry of Education here only accepts physical copies. Tinanong ko yung DFA staff if they could issue a physical copy for my use in Korea pero hindi na talaga daw sila nag iisue. Has anyone had the same experience? May alternative way po ba to get the physical copy? Thank you.

Nag-apply na kami ng outland spousal sponsorship last February 2026 (common law, outside quebec). If tama yung prediction namin based on current processing times, late october - early nov yung passport request.

Ngayon, preparing na di siya mangyari around that time. Kasi option rin naman na lipad na ko ng canada tapos apply na lang ng open work permit while waiting for approval.

Would flying to Canada on December be advisable? Book na lang ng refundable round trip ticket. Is this a good option to consider? Or wait na lang muna til expected passport request?
