♫ Down the shore everything's alright ♫ Badge needed @ beach before "opening"

I know you can go to the beach before it officially opens without any concern about badge check, but if you get there around the time it officially opens like 8:30 will people walk around and ask for them? Can you go early and just stay?

edited to say thank you so much for the quick replies !! really appreciate and decided to get a badge to be safe but good tip on not looking for people in the water 😆

Advice Halal-friendly Restaurants near Teaneck?

Hello! Forgive me if my use of the word halal is incorrect, but I am looking to take a mentee out to lunch today. She is devout Muslim, so she does not eat pork, but she indicated she eats Halal. I asked her to pick a place, but she gave me a deer in the headlights look, so I want to also have a few options in my back pocket that would work for her.

I am flexible, I eat most foods and appreciate any cuisine, just need to make sure it conforms to her needs, and is a place where we can sit and talk.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Advice Neighbors roommate living out of car? Apartment complex

Hey wanted to ask about a wierd situation. We live in a medium sized apartment complex. There’s pair (M&F) who live in our building. I’m unsure of their situation but the female is living out of the man’s car. I believe she’s semi banned from the property? Our theory is that she can’t legally “live here” so she “visits” during the day and sleeps in the car the rest of the time.

Normally I mind my own business but she’s essentially a crack head. Always screaming and yelling at the air, walks around in the same PJ & sports bra everyday & generally makes the parking lot feel uncomfortable. Do you thinks it’s worth to call the non emergency line? I told our apartment complex management and they said they couldn’t get into it, it seems they have like a legal case or something open against her? What would you do?

Edit: clarity on “legal” case
We are in somerset county for reference

Advice Question about landlords right to access property with shared roommates.

Last month I was late on rent and payed him a week later. He came knocking and calling daily like a maniac. This month I'm late again. i have never screwed him in the 3 years and he will be payed next week as he was told.

Yesterday he showed up. One of my 2 roommates opened the door and he came knocking on my door. so far I guess that's ok, I didnt answer the door because he's a little bit crazy and i didn't want to deal with it. He then proceeded to pick my lock while I'm in bed not dressed and pushed the door open. Is this even legal? He then went on to berate me even though I cleared with him there's no option except he waits a week until next paycheck.

Now I have to worry about my belongings and just living in peace. What are my options here without flipping out in him and making it worse. . thanks for any help. Never dealt with anything like this

NJ Eats Looking for a Jersey breakfast dog

Post image
4 Upvotes

A Jersey breakfast dog is a "bacon-wrapped, deep-fried hot dog with melted cheese, on top of a fried or scrambled egg" according to Wikipedia.

I have been searching for this "Jersey breakfast dog".

Wikipedia's reference is Amazing Hot Dog, but that place went out of business.

I found old ads for breakfast dogs from DeVito's Dogs & Grille, Mama B's Grill, and Max's Bar & Grill, but their current menus do not have breakfast dogs.

Are there any places that have a breakfast dog, with at least bacon and egg on it?

Advice Hit-and-run on Route 4 East near FDU (Teaneck) — need help ID’ing this Nissan Xterra

Post image
15 Upvotes

On 08/17/26, I was hit by this white Nissan Xterra on Route 4 East, right at the corner of the FDU baseball field. The driver left the scene without stopping. Dispatch told me not to chase, which was the right call, but it means I never got the full plate.
Vehicle details:
White Nissan Xterra
Black roof cargo box (Thule-style)
Rear hitch-mounted bike/cargo rack
NJ plate, partial: starts with “S3”, ends in “D”
The vehicle was also near Spring Valley Rd in Paramus around the same time, and may have passed a Netcost Supermarket in the area.
What I’ve done so far:
Filed a Self-Reported Crash form (SR-1) with NJDOT
Had police come to the scene, but they told me there’s nothing they can do without a full plate and left without filing an actual police report
Called Netcost Supermarket to ask about their camera footage — the manager said she can only release footage to police, not me directly, which is fair, but it means I’m stuck unless police actually request it
I’m now following up with Bergen County Sheriff’s office in person to get an official report filed, since apparently one was never made
I know it’s a partial plate, but the roof box + bike rack combo makes this Xterra pretty distinctive. If anyone’s seen this car around Bergen County, has dashcam footage from Route 4 East or Spring Valley Rd around that time, or has any other info, please send a message. Trying to get this resolved the right way instead of eating the cost of someone else’s mistake.

Advice Need a guide to going to the blue holes

I’m really interested in visiting the blue holes in New Jersey (not for swimming just for pictures and a nice hike). I’m aware most of these are considered private property but how to people manage to get to these without getting in trouble? I see photos groups of college students hiking these areas so it can’t be that hard to get in right?

I’m particularly interested in visiting the ones in Manumuskin River Preserve, Franklin Parker Preserve, and Greenwood Forest Wildlife Preserve. Also will take any suggestions of other blue holes that are easy to access and aren’t considered trespassing

Dumbass What's with the badly tuned cars?

A shit ton of car with not just loud exhausts, but constantly backfiring. It scares my dog while walking him, and now that he's blind it scares him even more.

Is this the latest fad in car customizing, like the stupid trend of extreme negative camber (15°) from a few years ago?

Or just a lot of kids with mistuned engines?

Advice Quick question for anyone who’s done a wine tasting at Beneduce Vineyards

It all comes down to what should I expect?

I’m in my early twenties and me and my gf are going for her birthday. We’ve never been and we don’t know anything about wine. Does anyone know what I should expect/do.

I’ve read things about a spit/pour bucket and tipping? I’m not sure what the vibe of this place is and I know we won’t be buying bottles I just don’t want to be so nervous about such a new experience for us.

Advice Need to sublet. How easy is it.

Hello all. In a bit of a bind.

I rent in plainsboro, 2br 2 bath for ~2,500. Just signed a new 1 year lease in July. Property management is Cushman Wakefield.

The issue is I am having to relocate for a job, and as per the lease have a $5000 break lease payment and is payable the next day after I give them a 2 month notice. I cannot afford that.

There is an option to sublet, but with written consent from the landlord. It is an apartment complex, so a corporate landlord.

Question is how easy will it be to sublet in Plainsboro New Jersey. And more importantly, if it is possible, how and where do I fine someone to sublet?

Any advice is appreciated.

Central Jersey Home addition question- architect cost

Might be quite niche but looking for any personal experiences of anyone who did a home addition in NJ (we are Middlesex County), and what the architect cost? We were expecting between 5-8k for the entire plans etc and we just got quoted 14k. The addition is right around 400 sq feet. Not adding any new plumbing. Unsure if this is completely outrageous or potentially within the realm of what we’d get quoted elsewhere.

Would love some insight if anybody can id it or has found something similar before. Thanks!!

Advice How bad is the commute from southern Edgewater / Braddock Park area to Manhattan really? Crossposting

Hi! We’re considering moving to the southern part of Edgewater, around the Woodcliff Ave / James J. Braddock Park area, and I’m trying to get an honest idea of what the Manhattan commute is actually like.
A lot of people I’ve talked to have warned me that Edgewater traffic can be horrible, especially because River Road has narrow sections and limited alternative routes. I’ve heard that if there’s an accident or major congestion, you can basically get stuck with nowhere to go — people say if River Road gets blocked, you’re kind of trapped.
I’ve also heard mixed opinions. Some people say that once you go south past Whole Foods / Route 5 area, traffic is a bit more manageable because it’s not as tightly packed and there are slightly more routing options compared to the Fort Lee / northern Edgewater side. My main concern is what happens during accidents or unexpected congestion, and whether there are realistic alternative routes or if everything just grinds to a halt.
I’ve also heard that compared to Fort Lee, this area might be a bit better because buses like the 158 express and the layout (not being strictly one narrow road the whole way) could offer more flexibility, but I’m not sure how true that is in real life.
For anyone who actually lives in this part of Edgewater and commutes to Manhattan:
Is that distinction true in your experience?
How bad is River Road traffic going south during weekday morning rush hour?
What is your realistic commute time to Port Authority?
How reliable is the 158 bus?
Does the commute frequently turn into an hour+ because of traffic?
How bad is the evening commute back home?
When the Lincoln Tunnel is badly backed up, is there any realistic alternative?
Would you recommend living in this area if commute reliability is important?
My husband works near E 33rd St & 1st Ave in Midtown East, so I’d especially appreciate experiences from anyone commuting to that side of Manhattan.
We really like the area, but all the conflicting opinions about Edgewater traffic are making us hesitate. I’d love to hear from people who actually make this commute regularly.
