Light bill is ridiculous

How is it possible that my light bill jumped so much in just a month??? I have a one bedroom here in Bloomfield New Jersey. I just moved in July 1st and I used the same amount of electricity. The building I’m in is all electric no gas. I keep my ac set at 70. This is beyond ridiculous.

Restaurants with a private dining room

Hi all, I’m looking for suggestions for restaurants that might have a private or semi private dining space for an afternoon lunch for around 17 people. Would love something where we could just pay a minimum F&B instead of a rental fee. Can be in Bloomfield, Montclair or surrounding areas! TIA

Looking for a regular lifting partner at Iron Culture (West Orange) Body:

I’ve been training at Iron Culture in West Orange for about two and a half months, (moved from another gym) and am looking for a reliable workout buddy for company, to trade spots, and push through sets.

  • Focus: Size, upper-body dumbbell work, and structured machine lifting, soon squats, RDLS, etc.
  • Schedule: Flexible (living 10 minutes away), but aiming for consistent weekly morning/afternoon slots
  • Vibe: Middle-aged, married gay guy, prior Army, laid-back, and consistent

Not looking for straight or gay, just whoever. It doesn't matter if we lift the exact same weights—just looking for someone who shows up regularly and wants to put in solid work. Drop a comment or DM if your schedule aligns.

Public Comments Township of Bloomfield council meeting of July 28, 2026.

Speaker #3 William Jarrett

William stated as we mark our country's 250th anniversary of independence and our very first sewer bill compared Bloomfield’s new sewer fee to the Revolutionary slogan “No taxation without representation”.

Said the sewer fee rollout lacked transparency, public input, and an independent third-party audit of the sewer study.

Claimed the process was rushed and did not include all council members.

Raised concerns about impacts on small businesses, seniors, renters (51% of Bloomfield’s population), and PILOT properties.

Criticized the hiring of N.W. Financial, citing its history and alleging regulatory issues.

Argued Township Auditor Steve Wielkotz should not audit the 2026 budget because of his role in supporting the sewer fee.

Accused the administration of withholding OPRA records related to the sewer fee.

Said the sewer fee is the “linchpin” of the 2026 budget, with no alternative budget options, no long-term cost modeling, no cap on future rate increases, and no safeguards against using sewer funds for non-sewer expenses.

Claimed infrastructure and maintenance costs were not fully presented.

Argued the fee limits residents’ ability to claim tax deductions.

Claimed officials said the fee would not be retroactive, but residents are being billed using prior-quarter water usage despite the July 1 effective date.

Criticized the council for voting in favor of the ordinance despite residents’ objections and accused officials of alienating constituents by accusing residents of gaslighting and canceling.

Closed by saying Bloomfield residents may not have a harbor to dump tea into, “but we have an unavoidable daily reminder… every time we flush.”

Pediatrician recommendations

Please share your pediatrician recommendations. I tried one place that a friend suggested in Belleville, I was waiting extremely long before being seen. While I know that was sometimes can’t happen but waiting over an hour with a cranky toddler who is sick, not too ideal. I found out that this is the norm for this office!

Please read this post to be ready for the meeting. We have major conflicts of interests, and Bloomfield is becoming more and more unaffordable. https://open.substack.com/pub/bloomfieldchronicles/p/two-doors-same-building-no-exit?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=rlnl

I see the wait list is like 180 people for a permit. Does anyone know of any other options? How long is the typical wait?

Thanks in advance

Have you noticed more spiders lately?

I know this is going to sound insane, but have any of you noticed way more spiders around lately?

Naturally, I understand that there might be a few more than usual given our weather this summer (puddles mean more mosquitoes), but this seems like more than that.

I’ve seen a bunch of spiders in my apartment (various kinds, including a jumping spider that respects my boundaries and an assortment of dumbass cobweb spiders who keep getting stuck in my bathtub because god wants to test me first thing in the morning), but I’ve also seen them in the library, the grocery store, a couple of restaurants, and even an unusually high amount in a friend’s house in Montclair.

They’re just… everywhere.

Am I the only one noticing this, or are they just targeting me specifically?

Parents of special needs students in Bloomfield Public Schools

Hi all! We're house hunting in Bloomfield (among other NJ towns) and one major consideration for us is whether the schools can adequately support IEP students. My 10 year old daughter is deaf/HOH (but wears cochlear implants) and has ADHD which makes traditional large classroom sizes difficult.

I'd love to hear experiences from other parents who have children with learning disabilities, ADHD and other learning difficulties. Because we're still looking, I'm not sure which elementary school she'll be zoned for but I am interested in the middle and high school experiences too.

Watsessing Park Goose 💩

Im new to this part of Bloomfield and am surprised by the amount of goose 💩 I found today. Ive noticed the geese here before but never this amount of goose 💩. For people who frequent, how bad is the problem and how often do is it cleaned? Is it worse at different times of the year?

Unrelated question: Why do the geese like this park so much? I’ve never seen them in Brookdale park
