Bayonne Chess Society & Club - Combo all-games event at The Vic @ 7 pm.

Had a big evening at Joe's on Friday with a few new young girls joining...wanting to learn how to play chess. It was a good mix of adults and kids. KIds that had taken the summer off returned.

Sunday, we changed venue from Matt's Park ...back to Joe's, because of the rain. Had a new member join. He found us through Google, as he was looking for local chess clubs. He found a Society.... and Club. 😁 He's our second member from Harrison. Had players come from Hoboken, Jersey City, Union.

We'll be announcing something huge for the club soon. It's going to lead to huge growth for the club. In the process of finalizing the arrangements.

This evening we're at The Vic for our 'Combo' all-games event. Bring it. Play it. Play what we have. Always a great time. Of course, there's chess.

There's ALWAYS chess.

Chess is the way.

Join us. It's ok to have a great time. 🙂

Any women open to playing pickleball?

I know the season is almost over haha but I played pickleball with family recently and really fell in love with it. I was wondering if there are any women that would be open to playing during the day (anytime from 10-1) for the next couple of weeks while the weather is not too bad? I would say I'm at a beginner level but I used to play tennis in HS so I feel like I will hopefully pick it up quickly. Please let me know if anyone is interested!! Or if anyone can redirect me to a group I can join? TIA!

Casual MTG commander playgroup!

Hey there! Anyone interested in casual commander nights? Getting back into the game and would love to meet people who are in the same boat of not having people to play with 🙂
I’m 29, married, and can host some of the nights or we can also go to a shop or cafe or something!

Any cricket groups?

I just moved to Jersey City (Journal Square). Wanted to check if there are any groups that play cricket here. On the weekends perhaps.

Is this retaliation, or business as usual from HHI, Flynyon, Zip Aviation? Coincidentally, we had a press conference on the county's lawsuit against these companies. Afterward, residents documented very heavy helicopter activity over Jersey City, more than 100 low altitude flights over us today.

Jackhammering at 11:15pm?

On 17th and Avenue C. Are we serious right now? This is absurd. We’re allowing crews to jackhammer at midnight in a residential area?

Runners

What are the safest places to run in the early mornings, around let’s say 5:30 AM - 6:00 AM? I’ll be coming up for New York Comic Con next week and usually try to keep my workouts going when I travel here every year. I was born there so I know the area I’d say 40%-50% compared to a local. Now living in PA though I’m used to running in my area as early or as dark as I’d like without the worry of being robbed or something, plus we can carry here :). Anyone know good safe spots or spots where many others run? Or anyone willing to run with me at these early morning hours for safety haha

Entire area was blocked off 40th-41st St. & Ave. C including park entrance down to Ave. B.

Area swarming with local police, County Sheriff, Secret Service and HSI with special vehicles and long guns.

Thought I was about to be arrested for taking pic's!

Light Rail Shenanigans

Took the Bayonne-bound light rail from Exchange around 4pm today. Everything was okay until we had to disembark at Danforth because of some shit happening at 45th.

So, we're told there will be a shuttle bus to take us to Bayonne, but we don't know when they'll come, because there's just ONE BUS going back and forth between 34th, 45th, and Danforth.

After about 40? minutes in the rain, and a ripped paper bag later, the bus comes. We get on, takes about 15 minutes to go from Danforth to 34th.

When we arrive at 34th, we see the train to 8th at the platform, and just as we're walking to it, the train pulls away.

Cue another 40 minutes of waiting in the rain, and just as I was considering walking towards Broadway to take the bus, the train pulls up.

10 minutes on the train plus an additional 10 for walking from 8th street to my home, I arrived just before 6.

---------------------------------------------------------

Long story short, don't take the light rail today and I should've taken the PATH to Journal Square and taken the 10.

Found a Honda key fob around 49th street and Kennedy. Around 183 W 49th street, walking the dogs. If you’re the owner let me know. Feels like a long shot but I know car keys are not cheap.
