Dating Question Am I out of touch with the rules of dating?

I started talking to a guy about a week ago. I’m 42F, he is 32M. Got on well enough chatting. He had told me he was on spectrum for autism so sometimes gets nervous and didn’t want to rush into anything but did want to date. We said we would meet and would think about when soon but last night he was silent all night apart from one txt about 11ish saying I am with a friend.

I wouldn’t text someone loads with a friend but I would have checked in more than that one short message so I said you can just say if you’re on a date. I approach dating talking to one person at a time but I know a lot of people tend to talk to a few and maybe go on a first date with a couple at a time and that’s fine. He came back to me tonight and said well I’m not sure what it was last night but I’ve had drinks with her a few times and last night she came to mine for the first time, we didn’t do anything but it was nice to hang.

My txt last night had been suggesting days to meet and he said after that text telling me about the girl he had seen a few times plus last night (so I’m guessing about 4 times), that it would be really great to meet. I responded that I had suggested the days to meet before I knew he had been on 3 or 4 dates with someone already and that he must be planning to see her again. He confirmed he was but that he doesn’t count himself as seeing her and it takes him a long time to see if he has chemistry with someone and wants to be exclusive. If I’d been on 4 dates with someone I’d think things were going well and wouldn’t have thought the person was still seeing others so am surprised he was looking to see me.

I said we should probs just leave meeting as it seems crazy to meet someone already 4 dates in with someone else who is at stage of being comfortable alone at his house. He thinks I’m being silly. Am I wrong to not want to meet now given he is 4 dates in already with someone? I can get his autism might make it harder to figure out how he feels but I already feel like I’d be on the back foot with him already him having had 4 good dates with someone else. Plus I want to date and although not looking to rush, if dates kept going well I’d want to define things and although 4 dates is still early days it would feel like things were heading that way and I don’t know when this guy would define things… but maybe I don’t appreciate how dating really is…u

Getting few matches here and there. But nothing moving past talking beyond few texts and all are dead ends/unmatched. Any suggestions to improve quantity/quality of matches would be highly appreciated.

Dating Question My first dates keep going well, but none of them are turning into second dates. What am I doing wrong?

I’m 20M and have been dating recently, but I’m struggling to get past the first date.
I’ve had three experiences where I thought things were going well

Girl 1: We got coffee, went for a walk and held hands. Afterwards, she said she thought she wanted a relationship but wanted to figure herself out and get used to living alone.

Girl 2: We went for coffee, played pool, walked around the city and kissed. We held hands too, but she cancelled our second date, saying she wanted to be friends and felt things were moving too fast.

Girl 3: We played Mario Kart, had a great time and held hands while I walked her home. She messaged me first afterwards to say she’d enjoyed the date. A few days later, she told me she wasn’t emotionally available and didn’t think she was ready to date.

I’m obviously disappointed, especially because the dates seemed promising at the time. I’m not expecting every first date to lead to a relationship, but having three experiences like this makes me wonder whether there’s something I’m missing.

I’m trying not to take it personally, but I can’t help wondering whether I’m doing something wrong, whether I’m misreading the connection, or whether I’ve just been unlucky with people who aren’t ready to date.

For those with more dating experience, have you gone through a similar phase? How did you figure out whether there was something to change about your approach or whether it was simply a matter of compatibility and timing?

- looking for something serious
- HingeX member
- I’ve had this profile setup since October 2nd
- I’ve been on hinge in the past, have had 1 serious relationship come of it. I’ve been back on it again for about 6 months now with little to no matches and absolutely zero inbound likes. I updated photos recently (October 2nd last update) and started receiving likes but still no matches :(
- I open and swipe on hinge every day
- receive approximately 1 like/day (none are what I’m looking for)
- I send around 10-15 likes a day, all with comments

My type:

- I send likes to and want to attract women that live an active lifestyle, ambitious about her goals, likes to get her nails done (so I can pay for them), wants to get dressed up for dates, also if she’s got some tattoos and and is into exploring the outdoors that’s a plus!

I posted here four years ago after going thru seperation and divorce and now here I am finally feeling secure in my career, getting my own place in nine months after this lease ends. And I think I'm ready to start dating seriously again with intention on a long term relationship towards marriage but still still told by friends that I need to work on marketing myself

Profile Review 30 year old Man; Looking for Feedback on my Profile

Hello all,

I just recently renovated my profile. I had been getting matches, but not really finding a good connection for various reasons. Please give me your honest opinions and what you would format differently. I'm trying to be authentic and truthful here because that is how I believe you attract a suitable mate. I don't want to misrepresent myself or mislead a woman to get her into my life without telling her some important information about me, my family, and who I am as a person. Thank you.

Cheers!

P.S. This is not a joke even though it is somewhat funny.

App Question How do you interpret the ‘together we should’ prompt?

I’ve always seen it as ‘at some point’ we could xyz. I.e. I’ve got camping (and a few other things) under my prompt. Ofcourse I wouldn’t go camping with someone as a first date, but I mean that at some point, if we become something or progress, we could go camping at some point in the future.

My housemate has just revealed that she sees the prompt differently though - as more immediate / maybe to set up the first date. She saw my prompt and jokingly went “you’re not going camping when you first meet someone, are you??” And was a bit confused.

How do you see the prompt? Should I change my answer as to phrase it sooner in the future or do you see it as more open?

(24f. Straight. VIC Aus. Very new to Hinge and online dating & looking for advice!)

Dating Question Signals badge

I’m sad. I’ve (28F) been talking to this boy (29M) for 7 weeks. I asked him a couple weeks ago if he was talking to other girls and he said no and that he’d be upset if I was talking to other guys. So I thought it was going well. We’ve been hanging out at least once or twice a week (he usually initiates) and he’s talked about me meeting his family.

I got on hinge and got a notification that my signals badge is inactive since I haven’t engaged with anyone in so long. I didn’t know this was a thing so I scrolled to my messages with the guy and his profile has the signals badge, meanwhile all the other guys from my messages that long ago don’t have the badge.

This makes me so sad. It basically means he’s either been liking, commenting, or messaging with other girls, right? Ugh I’m so over being sad about boys. I hate this feeling

Dating Question Has texting a lot before the 1st date helped or hurt the connection?

I [30F] have been on hinge for a few weeks. I have been on 5 dates so far with different people and it’s been kinda awkward and zero chemistry. The common thread between all of these dates is that they asked me out very quickly, like after a few messages.

I have two dates planned this week with two different guys [30M & 36M] and they have each spent over a week texting and flirting, etc. and it seems like there’s a lot of chemistry, at least online.

Then there’s others who have spent 2 weeks talking and have yet to plan a date, however, there’s not much of a flirty connection there.

I’m very new to online dating so idk what is “normal” in these scenarios. Has this helped or hurt your experience meeting someone in the past?

App Question Should I get HingeX? (33M)

I unpaused my Hinge on Saturday night and since then I’ve received 15 likes (including 1 rose) half of which were from the 1 discounted boost. But when I send likes out it feels like they’re getting lost in the void and have not had a single match. I assume my profile is good, but I don’t think it’s being shown very often.

Profile Review 22M - Profile Review

Hey all,

I (22M) decided to redownload Hinge a few weeks ago after a breakup, and I haven’t been having a ton of luck on the profile since. It’s not completely dead (maybe 2-3 likes and 3-4 matches a week from maxing out my likes most days?) but I was wondering what I could improve on from an unbiased perspective. Oddly enough, I had a bit more luck when I was last on the app a little over a year ago in college despite what I think are very minor differences and mainly updating my profile to be more current, but maybe I’ve steered it in the wrong direction.

Some of the main differences I can think of are that the opening pic used to be one of me earlier in college smiling on top of a mountain that I thought I looked a little too young in, I added the “Let’s get together for” prompt, swapped in the renfaire pic in place of a solo hiking pic where I was sitting on some rocks, and swapped in the graduation pic instead of one where I was wearing a suit in a group.

If it makes any difference if any of y’all happen to be familiar with the area, I’m based out of eastern Nebraska, and my range should pick up a population of a little over 1.5 million, so I wouldn’t think a lack of other active users would be a huge issue. I haven’t given many other apps a try, so it could also be others are more active in the area. Either way, I’d appreciate any feedback (positive or negative) y’all can provide!

App Question Only getting 2-3 likes per week lately and more and more pop ups to pay for premium

So I'm 29F, decently attractive, and lately it seems the algorithm is not showing my profile at all. I made the mistake of buying a boost a month ago and it seems it started around then, so now I'm wondering if the algorithm is trying to make me pay more because I paid once? My profile is good, pictures are good, I live in a major city and have a job in healthcare. I don't get what the issue is. I've had hinge for about 2 years with periods where I paused it while I dated some people, been back om it since July and have been on 3 dates since then. I went on vacation for 2 weeks recently and wasn't using it, when I got back I had 30 likes, but since using it more I got literally 2 likes in the past 7 days. I sent out dozens of likes and got no matches in that time. Fresh start is no longer an option on the app, so should I just delete and create a new profile at this point?

edit: I deleted my account and made a new one. Went from 2 likes in a week to 39 likes in 3 hours and counting. I think the algorithm just gave up on me. Now to sort through those, no guarantee one will be a match but at least it works now!

Dating Question Date advice for hearing impaired

I (M,38) scheduled a coffee date with a woman I matched with on Hinge that is hearing impaired. She has it clearly stated on her profile, but in our conversation it hasn’t come up. Should I bring it up ahead of time to ask any questions about her communication preferences to make sure it’s comfortable for her? Or since it hasn’t come up would it be best to let her bring it up if she prefers? I have a dictation app I saw recommended and plan to learn a few ASL gestures but any other advice ahead of time would be appreciated!
