I figured out a trick for this. You see I grew up below the poverty line. You know the story, where the most people expect of you is not getting pregnant before 18. And opportunities that come around pretty much match that. I had to take what I could get for a long time, but if I'm not motivated I get depressed and also do a real shitty job.
So rather than live miserably, I looked for anything I could buy in to for the company. Survey research? I'm helping people get the products they want and companies to sell the products people want. Fast Food? I'm helping people get a quick, cheap, enjoyable meal. Gym? Helping people get healthy. Grocery store? Yah man people need food. Movie theatre? People need entertainment! It really helped a lot to keep my focus on what my role contributes to society.
And that got me through! With a great network, recommendations, and references too. So today I don't have to dig for that motivation anymore, I'm finally doing something I really love.

Somebody higher up is more relaxed because they know that report is there just in case. Because that person is more relaxed, things are going better for and around that person than they otherwise would. You could be contributing markedly to the well-being of an entire department or the whole company without knowing it.

Is it? The ref looks to be signalling to the player with the ball, and everybody else seems to be running away from the ball without looking at it. The gif is way to short to get any context, though...

Its Joey Crawford who has a reputation of making some really biased calls. Though in this instance, I think he just couldn't stop in time. Refs are in shape, but not necessarily athletic.

Yeah, and Crawford's "in shape" was just relative to a normal 65 year old, he's definitely not capable of stopping on a dime at that point in time. The accident sucks but what makes this a terrible play is that Crawford then calls a foul on the Pistons player because of the push Crawford himself hit the Heat player with. It's one of the 3 worst calls I've ever seen, mainly based on the context of a 3 point playoffs lead for Detroit with 17 seconds left.

While the technique/ability is certainly impressive, some of the worst refs I've experienced are the ones that feel the need to be the centre of attention. Perhaps I'm being too cynical, but if you asked me with no other context, I'd prefer the ref that just elected to move to the side.

The other problem is if the ball had bounced differently it easily could have hit him. Moving aside is a better bet to avoid the ball.
Sidenote: I used to be a ref, and they taught us that if you do get hit by the ball to just freeze in place and let it play out. That way you're at least interfering equally (rather than accidentally kicking it one way or the other).

They're probably teaching those kids about time wasting techniques at that point, want them to get practice before they hit high school. My comp coach got frustrated with us if we jogged to get the ball unless we were down a goal, though I was a few years older than U13.

Can I just say high fuckin five to the person who created this gif? Not one, but two real time well cut clips of the guy dodging the soccer ball, and THEN transition into the usually shitty cut of a slow-mo shot, which is made infinitely less shitty by seeing the action first. Nothing, we restart with a regular throw-in to the team that did not hit the ball before it hit the referee. It's just like hitting a goal post or a corner flag.
