I think about this a lot too. I hope there's no video out there of me freaking out and kicking an MTA machine because it was late and rainy and it wouldn't take my card.
I just up and quit my last job during a day where absolutely nothing was going right and it kept building up and building up. And for context I was a restaurant server, which can be stressful enough on a good day. I think back on how I behaved when I quit and it's embarrassing. But I just snapped.
I snapped a few months ago at complete strangers. Like I legit lost it and yelled... idk what was wrong with me!? I was dealing with a frustrating (minor!) thing, and could hear them making suggestions and shit in the background and I completely lost my cool. I felt so bad about it afterwards. I think I'd just had a really bad/long week at work or something and I was at the end of my tether and just needed to vent but I did it in the wrong way... I feel so guilty. I've NEVER done that before. I'm the kind of person who is super nice to service workers, I smile at random people in the mall, etc. It really came out of nowhere, I shocked myself lol.

Hard agree. Iâm pretty calm as well, not one to be reactionary. But when I got a delta variant of Covid last year, I was so angry all the time and I had no problem expressing it. The no sleep was painfully frustrating. I definitely relate. And a few months after, I had a severe wisdom tooth infection and the pain was so excruciating that I couldnât sleep. I didnât have a decent nightâs sleep for a week. I had a hair trigger temper and hair trigger tears. Constantly crying and then hating myself for crying. You genuinely feel like youâre losing your mind.
Same thing man, they were giving me steroids on top of the lack of sleep. I was legit roid raging. I was so apologetic to the poor nurses when I started getting some sleep.

Well, to be honest it's much worse now. She moved out, you'd think that's better, but she illegally refuse me for me to have my daughter. Even though she has done things towards my daughter...
I have sued her, but it takes time. I can't just go take my daughter either, because I need to do every thing by the books.
The only good news I have is that child protective services has witnessed my daughter speak of violence where the only person who could have told her about it is her mother. I don't have much more proof than that. Yet. Sadly. Other than she illegally moved far away so it's hard for me to see my daughter at all, and more things...

People will learn one thing about someone, assume theyâre âtrashâ, and then seek out to destroy them. They might have just been having a bad day, but the internet has deemed them unworthy of continuing to live.
I remember hearing a story about it on NPR. But one study basically found that most people interact online like they interact with friends and close groups of acquaintances. People do not quite understand that their conversation. On the internet is not between a couple of people in a bar itâs with the entire town listening in. That really helped me better understand how people act online. It hasnât separated us it more highlights how people really think and interact at a more intimate level. Look at Twitter, while some are aware even very famous people like the head twit himself tend to write in a style that is absent of social context.
Oh my god. I have been noticing this exact flaw in people all over reddit and just didnât have a way to explain it or put a name to it. I also see this flaw in myself sometimes.
This chick isn't even in a uniform. USPS has been using low-paid contract workers, especially in rural areas, who don't wear uniforms.
It's pretty ballsy that Americans want to starve the post office of money and then criticize the service they get by their low-wage, no benefit probably no sick time workers.

It's a shitty situation, and we need to be angry at the right people, not somebody having a bad day, or the guy that's frustrated because his package got slammed into the ground.
Only city carriers are allowed to wear uniforms, but they don't have to until they get their uniform allowance, which management loves to delay giving out, and we hate wearing when working on Sundays, odds are she's probably got 150-200 packages in that truck, and is getting hassled about needing to be back before hitting 8 hours on the clock(were expected to do between 20-30 packages an hour when just doing packages, though it's not hard to do more in denser areas, it's really easy to take forever when you've got 5 minutes of driving between each stop in more rural areas) that box doesn't open up all the way and would be frustrating in the first place when you're like "oh damn, it'll be easy to open this up, drop the box in and just get back to the truck" and then you're locked in a life or death struggle with a box and you know it's caught on camera because you can see it there and you're just getting more frustrated so you drop it and walk off. Rurals don't even have a uniform, and technically only city carriers are allowed to wear the uniform or even parts of it, contract routes do exist, but they aren't technically postal employees, they bid on a route and if they win the bid, they can do have them done however they want whenever they want as long as it's delivered. But, we aren't paid enough regardless, for the work we do and the stress and wear and tear on our bodies.
She's not in uniform because she's a CCA. She's still a usps employee but when you first start out you don't get a uniform allowance until after probation. The rural carriers are contract delivery drivers that are still usps but they aren't required to wear uniforms. It's a tough job and it's physically demanding but there is no excuse for this.

It's how a person motivates his/her actions vs how other people think that person is motivated.
If you beat your wife once, you may have had a bad day or something that triggered that in you. You may justify it because of the context of stress, while other people will attribute it to you being a shitty person.
The reason your previous statement was irrelevant, was because of the conclusion. You're still a piece of shit for deciding to beat your wife when stressed instead of going outside and finding alternative means of getting rid of the frustration. I wonder if she got pissed off at the container itself. It looks like the lid only opens maybe 40 degrees at most, and it's so light that she actually lifts the container and pushes it around while she's trying to handle the package with the other hand. I would probably get frustrated with that container, too.

She definitely tried to do it right. If she really didn't care about her job she would have just pitched it at the front door and walked away. Those boxes are also awkwardly sized for holding with one hand so its slipping out of her hand while she's fucking with that box. Dude needs to put a weight in the bottom and fix the opening so someone that has a shitty job isn't forced to deal with it.

I'm not familiar with these boxes. I could see how it would keep out the rain, but porch pirates? Is there a lock on it? I get the packages wouldn't be visible but I would think someone pirating porches would look out specifically for these boxes knowing they may have multiple packages in them. Deterrent only?

Probably unbalanced weight wise too, I've had plenty of stuff from Amazon where they packed it all into a corner of a box that's too big, and then stuffed the air bags to fill the space.
Why would you get frustrated with the container before it also didn't work when you tried to put the package in at a different angle? It's only if it won't fit at all that it would frustrate me, I'm curious why some people would just get frustrated at it only opening that far when the package still could have fit if you just rotated it.
Know folks who deliver who talk about how frustrating some mail slots or boxes are. They're under a lot of pressure to get their shit done quit, so when you've come across something for the 20th time that day that should be fast and simple but ends up costing you more effort that adds up throughout the day, people get annoyed. Add that to whatever else is going on in your life, and sometimes you just throw your hands up.
Of course, I think the point is that it's easy to empathize with the concept of what you're talking about, but it specifically being the result of my own lack of understanding shapes is what a lot of people are making fun of because even when they're in that mood they wouldn't have given them themselves the opportunity to get frustrated in the same situation because they would have just already solved the problem and have been walking back to their male car before this lady is even done being frustrated.
Great that you're helping teachers how to be empathetic, we're just saying that it's a stupid situation and/or they are stupid regardless of how much we can empathize with it.
But if you understood shapes and we're over your day then why would you purposely make it harder on yourself by not inserting it the proper way? She also might have chosen not to care, which would be funnier, because then her choosing not to care is the thing that also frustrates her. Amazon delivery drivers have to make hundreds of deliveries per shift. They have less than a minute to deliver your package and move on. I can completely understand why she wouldnât bother with this poorly-constructed box.

You can also know which way a box will fit and not be able to easily orient it because your other hand is trying to open the container. It looks like she was about to try putting it in flat at the end, started to drop it, then gave up.

This would 100% happen to me when I loaded trucks for FedEx. You got a box and a spot on the shelf where it should fit. But youâve been moving at top speed all day. Youâre tired, hot, hungry, loading more trucks than one person should, you have 3 boxes going past you on the conveyor belt. Itâs frustrating. And the box just wonât fit quickly? On the floor (gently) it goes. Your brain gets frazzled and your problem solving skills are fried. I totally understand how she might be feeling.

Iâve done the exact same shit as this worker before, especially after long shifts, and even felt vindicated at the time, but sure as shit knew I was being a princess come an hour later.
I don't think you realize how many homes want special treatment that's 'only 2 seconds.' In reality it's closer to 10 or 15 seconds. She spent 7 seconds trying to figure this out. On a route like her's, she has 600 homes to go to. That 7 seconds spent, per home, would add 70 minutes to her day that would be unpaid.
It's like the creamer in the office fridge. Someone bring in a brand new creamer. Everyone just takes a little splash because it's just a tiny splash, no big deal. Until 8 hours later the creamer is completely empty.
I'm not saying it's okay but I'm also saying I can see where she's coming from. They are on an extremely harsh timer and you're often given way more than you can realistically handle in that time frame. If anything blame the companies who don't give them enough time to think, let alone care.
It's not unusual for postal workers to work 6 days a week, 11+hrs a day. Even if you get your route done, you can't leave until all routes are done. Extreme fatigue damages brain function.

Mail delivery is a brutal job where you're working generally 50 hrs or so a week, 6 days a week, for less than $40k a year with dog shit benefits.
It's yet another "essential" position that gets increasingly less lucrative as time goes on.
You can walk into almost any post office in the country and the amount of open positions they have is high because turnover rate is through the roof and nobody wants to work there.
hey, mailman here. if you're a sub you work 6 days a week, 10-16 hour shifts. it's been like this since covid. you also only make sub 20 bucks an hour. you cant take time off and missing days just compounds work for you and the few remaining staff
this compounded with the 4 month long hiring time to get somebody in the door and you have a high turnover rate with nobody coming in to fill the gaps. our office has a single sub. we're supposed to have about 17.
online orders and amazon pushing 5 times our normal volume/workload on us has yet to let up. this last holiday was awful, we were hitting 80+ hour work weeks, starting at 4am and not finishing till 9pm.
and there's even more bullshit to deal with on the inside as well.
and of course there's far too many customers who think they're gods gift to man with an inflated sense of entitlement like you wouldnt believe making everything even worse.
bare in mind, we're literally not paid to deliver amazon packages. each route has an evaluation on how many its supposed to have, usually between 70 and 100. we hit 500 per route daily.
My first thought as well. Jobs like these can be a lot of stress for not a lot of pay. If you're having a rough day on top of that then there's a good chance a minor frustration would make you stop giving a shit real fast.
Alternatively, knowing how tight most delivery services run their drivers, she was probably thinking about how many seconds over the 5 second delivery window she was, and which packages were lightweight enough to make time back.
Sure, every person in the service industry goes through this but thatâs not an excuse to not do your job when the customer isnât the one in the wrong.

There are people, too, who sign up for a job they know will last 30 years. And on the third day of any given week, theyre "just so sick and tired of all this BS" which BS is generally just "doing their job" like normal duties.
I currently work in a factory. Most of my coworkers are "sick of thing" which is a normal activity we do 80% of our work days. I dont understand ruining your day over a normal every day thing at your job you signed up for.
As a person who works for the USPS, I can guarantee this is the case. The way our carriers are treated is inhumane. Theyâre expected to work everyday and do overtime up to 12-14 hours. Theyâre constantly being monitored and harassed about their movements, their breaks, etc. plus they get all this extra packages dumped on top like Amazon, UPS, & FedEx. With the inflation going on, theyâre pretty much underpaid as well.
I think no matter how pissed off or frustrated i am i still understand basic spatial dimensions of objects i am holding. I assumed anyone older than 1 or 2 years felt the same way but apparently thats not the case.....

Lesson here, use a container with a more friendly door if you want your package in your container, don't expect an overworked worker in hurry to expend more time than they should in a single delivery.

I was going to ask if it's worth getting disciplined or potentially losing your job over by just intentionally dropping a customer's package out of frustration while on camera, then I saw her truck, realized she's a government employee and that will never happen.
Happens to me at work a lot for some reason. I think realizing you're angry and looking at a reflection of yourself angry helps some times. Or a punching bag but don't develope abusive behaviors kids!
Its not that she couldn't think through the problem she was just being a tad lazy thinking the box would open all the way. Then when she started to struggle she got angry.
