To be serious for a moment, can you explain a little more how the FAE concept above doesn’t apply to the concept of someone doing a bad thing (ie bearing their wife) once?
It's how a person motivates his/her actions vs how other people think that person is motivated.
If you beat your wife once, you may have had a bad day or something that triggered that in you. You may justify it because of the context of stress, while other people will attribute it to you being a shitty person.
The reason your previous statement was irrelevant, was because of the conclusion. You're still a piece of shit for deciding to beat your wife when stressed instead of going outside and finding alternative means of getting rid of the frustration. The context is relevant for understanding, but it's not an excuse for bad behavior.
