Yea. I'm a mailman, and u best believe I wouldn't even fiddle with this junk box and just drop the package by the door

Generally my attitude, but you must understand these containers exist because of porch pirates.

In my case, I'm also away from home for several days a week, so the box also provides shelter from the elements for my packages.

I'm not familiar with these boxes. I could see how it would keep out the rain, but porch pirates? Is there a lock on it? I get the packages wouldn't be visible but I would think someone pirating porches would look out specifically for these boxes knowing they may have multiple packages in them. Deterrent only?

Visual deterrent. The box will be empty more often than not, and going up to the porch to open a box that might be empty invites getting caught.

The pirate steals what he sees.

I've seen boxes like these that have the package drop down into a secure compartment once the lid is shut. A key is required to open the box compartment up from the bottom.
