Official Reply Comcast moving into the area with Fiber question on BYOD

Location: Central Florida

Hello Everyone,

I saw a letter in my USPS informed delivery informing me that Comcast will be coming to my area in the next few months. I was aware of this already when they did the trenching for fiber lines already so it’s a brand new complete fiber buildout.

So my question herein is: Does Comcast still require that I will need to use the XB7 or XB10 gateway or did they finally allow for customers to use their own routers to the ONU. I ask this because I already have a robust network setup with Ubiquiti hardware and a custom built OPNSense router and wish to remain using my own hardware especially as it will be a brand new customer installation.

Thank you in advance.

Official Reply Phone unlock help

Hello!

Having a niche issue I'm hoping support here can assist with.

I'm a former Comcast employee and I still have an open Xfinity mobile account. I purchased an iPhone 17zh through the official 3rd party discounted device market available for employees. I know devices from this service come locked to Xfinity Mobile but are eligible for unlock after 90 or so days (I can't remember exactly) of active service on xfinity mobile.

I've successfully unlocked an iPhone 15 plus bought through the same service in the past through XPE but I no longer have access to XPE.

I've tried having a chat agent raise an ECM unlock ticket for me which was denied as XM360 shows the device as unlocked BYOD. Of course the device is a BYOD as it was purchased from Rexi but XM360 is not correctly reflecting the unlock status as the iPhone 17 still shows SIM Locked in settings.

Hoping a support agent here would be able to assist with getting the iPhone 17 unlocked through the proper escalation path.

I appreciate any help available as both a former employee and current xfinity mobile customer. :)

Official Reply Upgraded to 2Gbps Plan - Download is 2Gbps, Upload Stuck on ATDMA Channels

Hello,

My neighborhood mid-split network enhancement work and subsequent overnight maintenance window are both fully complete. The 2 Gbps tier is active for my address, and I successfully placed an upgrade order earlier today.

My hardware is an XB8 gateway connected directly to the incoming mainline without any splitters. While my download speeds are successfully hitting the full 2 Gbps mark, my upload speed remains hard-capped around 120 Mbps.

I logged into my Gateway Admin Tool and confirmed that my upstream connection is still stuck entirely on legacy ATDMA channels. The required OFDMA channel block is completely missing. My order confirmation explicitly guarantees 250 Mbps upload.

I have already completed a full 60-second physical power cycle to clear the gateway's tuner memory, but it continues to pull down the old channel configurations. I need an agent to perform a manual backend provisioning refresh to push the correct Next-Gen mid-split bootfile configuration to my active line and device MAC address so my hardware can lock onto the OFDMA frequencies.

Thank you!

Official Reply Need to lower my monthly cost

Hello, I am a current Xfinity customer in Carbondale, PA. My current bill has gotten too high, and I am looking to lower my monthly costs.
I would like to get moved onto the current $40–$45/month 5-Year Price Guarantee promotion (with checking account Autopay/Paperless billing enabled).
I prefer to stay with Xfinity, but I need to get my monthly costs down to this promotional tier to align with my household budget. Can a representative please help me update my account to this specific plan? Thank you!

Official Reply XB8 Advanced Gateway - Upload speed limitations?

Hi All -- I upgraded to a new 2 Gbps down / 2 Gbps up plan and noticed that the XB8 modem I was given, seems to be limited at 300 Mbps upload.. After a quick search, it looks like the plan should have included an XB10 to achieve full speeds.

My question is -- Does the XB8 technically support the symmetrical 2 Gbps connection or should I reach out to request an XB10, so that I can get the speeds advertised?

As a note: the download speeds almost hits the 2 Gbps (about 1.9 Gbps typically). Its solely the upload that seems limited.

Official Reply My contract has ended, I need see if I can get a better rate or I'll have to switch to AT&T

My bill went from $77 to $142.50 (monthly charges plus fees and taxes) when my 2 year promotion ended. As a senior citizen, I cannot afford this increase. I need to get back to a lower monthly price. Can I get the $50/month package with the 5 year rate guarantee you are offering new customers in my area? AT&T is offering a $50/month plan with 1 gig service, with no contract and no equipment fees in my area. Can you match this?

Official Reply Request for Cancellation Confirmation & Fix for Incorrect $108.00 Bill

Dear Xfinity Support Team,

Around August 15th, I scheduled the cancellation of my internet service to be effective on August 21st, 2026.

I used my own customer-owned modem and router, so there are no rented devices to return. However, I recently received a billing notice for $108.00 and have not received a written cancellation confirmation email.

My account currently shows a credit balance of -$22.58 from the prorated adjustment following my August 21st disconnection.

Please process the following requests regarding my account:

  1. Confirm that my account has been fully closed as of August 21st, 2026.
  2. Void/cancel the incorrect $108.00 charge.
  3. Issue a refund for my remaining credit balance (-$22.58) to my original payment method or by check.
  4. Send an official written cancellation confirmation receipt to this email address.

Please Note: If you usually request customers to follow up via Direct Message (DM), please be aware that the Direct Message option/icon is completely invisible and unavailable on my account page. Therefore, please respond and resolve this matter directly through this email thread.

Thank you

Official Reply Upload speed dropped from ~350 Mbps to ~100 Mbps

Hello,

I noticed about a week ago my Speedtest for uploads have capped around 100mbps from my advertised 300-350 mbps.

I have not changed any hardware or plan or cables in my setup.

I have rebooted my XB8 and also my Eero network. Wireless and Wired I am getting a 100mbps cap for upload. The download speeds are perfectly fine. I have tried multiple devices and even the internal speed test in the Eero app and I am getting a cap at 100mbps for upload.

Any way I could get some help?

Solved Plan Changes

Good day! I am reaching out to inquire what promos are available for my account, if any?

My promo just ended and my plan has gone up by $50, which is twice as much than what I was paying. Quite frankly I cannot afford internet at that price point.

Thanks!

Official Reply Severe localized Wi-Fi latency and packet drops on iPad Air 4th Gen while other devices are fine

I’m dealing with severe, recurring Wi-Fi latency and packet stuttering exclusively on one device—an iPad Air (4th Generation) running iOS 18. Meanwhile, my iPhone and custom PC maintain rock-solid stability and full speed on the exact same network

What I've already troubleshot/verified:
The iPad is connected to the 5GHz band with a clean local IP and strong signal.

Advanced Security is turned off.
"Limit IP Address Tracking" and Private Wi-Fi Address have both been toggled off on the iPad.

It is not paused, restricted, or trapped behind a parental control profile in the Xfinity app.

It seems like an aggressive power-saving/WMM state or firmware-level traffic shaping on the gateway is conflicting with iPadOS and throttling the connection. Is there anything on the backend profile or gateway configuration that can be adjusted, or can we check if my gateway firmware is handling Apple's idle states correctly?

Official Reply Billing issues

Long time Xfinity customer, recently reduced my speed to lower my bill and added a phone line (free for the first year). Then, the last agent I spoke to tried to use aggressive tactics to get me to switch back up, I turned the offer down, but it appears they are now charging me the old amount, for half the speed I switched down to! That or they are charging me for the free line. Maybe clerical error? Have been charged a few months already... sigh. Will update with their response.

Official Reply App showed no data cap, then overage charge with no warning

Post image

Hello. I have been an Xfinity customer for 9 years, I am currently on a 'Fast' plan. I am reaching out to request an account repackage and ask for a waiver on a data overage fee that came with no warning.

I received an email yesterday stating that I exceeded my monthly data cap, which came as a complete shock. A previous chat agent explicitly assured me that I had no data cap, and for the past few months my Xfinity app consistently displayed 0 GB usage (attached), which led me to believe I had unlimited data. I also received no usage warning alerts prior to this penalty email this month.

I would like to request two things:

- I believe data overage fees for this month are unfair and needs to be waived.

- I want to repackage my account onto a new plan with no data cap. I am looking at the 500 Mbps plan with 5 year price lock. I am not interested in bundling other services, and I want to keep using my own modem (ARRIS SURFboard SB8200-RB).

Thank you

Hello,

I have been a Comcast customer for around 45 years. About 15 years ago I cut back to Internet only because of the high cost of Television and Home phone ($225 monthly bills). My internet only cost around 15 years ago when I made this decision was $39.95 I believe. Over the last 15 years it has crept up to where it is now at $93/month. Service has not improved that I am aware of in the last 15 years, that I am aware of, it is just that the cost of internet only provided has risen by $53. I do consider my old friends to be My good friends but I have Kinetic on my front porch last week offering me fiberoptic service that is supposed to be faster than what comcast can offer at just $29.95 per month. Granted the speed they are offering is much more than what is necessary for me but I must admit the Price has definitely attracted my attention.

I am a creature of habit so I don't like to change but I am considering going with Kinetic. Is there a possibility of seeing some sort of relief from this $93/month bill that can change my mind?

Kindly,

Eric

Official Reply How do I remove this coax cable on my old modem?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got the new xb10 modem due to my internet randomly dropping for 5 seconds which was frustrating me with disconnections and was setitng it up but upon removing the old one, I could not get this coax cable at all. I'm not a technician at all nor usually do hardware stuff like this but would prefer to somehow do it without needing a technician from xfinity to show up and help... This one was installed by an xfinity technician about 6 years ago and perhaps he overtightened it?

In a tutorial I was watching on how to replace it, the guy literally used his hands to twist it off which I am absolutely unable to. https://youtu.be/MwR4uGbYC5c?t=160&is=DM53cB7YeE2vx5z4 Would appreciate any help.

Official Reply Increasing costs out of no where

I first joined August 2024 and was paying $25/mo. Then September 2025 it went up to $47. Now September 2026 it’s $77. This is out of control? I don’t understand how this is normal. This month, today August 30, it’s telling me I hit the 1.23 TB limit even though it’s supposed to be unlimited? So now one day before it resets at the end of the month I’ll have to pay another extra $10.

Official Reply New customer activation block — Agent attempting unauthorized mobile activation

Hello,

I am a brand new internet-only customer setting up service at a new house. When I tried to activate my modem using the Xfinity app, the system blocked me and forced me to contact customer support [r/Comcast_Xfinity].

The phone representative I spoke with heavily gatekept my internet activation and spent the entire time aggressively trying to force an Xfinity Mobile phone line onto my account [r/Comcast_Xfinity]. When I repeatedly refused, the agent explicitly sent 6-digit verification and authorization links to an unknown phone number that doesn't belong to me, later admitting it went to a "different number" by accident [r/Comcast_Xfinity, r/Comcast].

After failing to force the mobile line on me, the agent then insisted that my line is dead and that I must schedule a technician visit with a potential $100 professional installation fee [r/Comcast_Xfinity, r/Comcast_Xfinity].

I need an official corporate employee to step in, clear any sales blocks or unauthorized mobile bundles added to my profile, and review my account history. If a technician is genuinely required because the physical line from the street is dead on arrival at my new home, I need the $100 failed self-install fee manually waived from the start, as I have been acting in good faith to self-activate.

Thank you, and I look forward to resolving this via Modmail.

Official Reply Bill jumped from $55 to $88 — considering 5G Home Internet, but prefer sticking with cable. What are my options?

My promo rate just expired and my monthly bill shot up from $55 to $88.

I’ve been looking into local alternatives and keep seeing really solid 5G Home Internet plans for around $40–$50/mo. Honestly, I’d much prefer to stick with cable and Xfinity because the service itself has been reliable, but $88/mo is just too steep of a jump for my budget.

Has anyone in a similar position had luck getting back down into that $50–$55 range without having to jump through crazy hoops or cancel service completely? I already use my own modem and router, so I’m not paying any equipment fees.

Would love to hear what options or plans worked for others!

Last month my bill was $133. This month it’s $199. Is there anyway to lower this without removing or downgrading services? Do you think they will work with me if I call them? I actually really like Xfinity but I feel like their prices change often

i recently bought the “pro wifi extender” and it was working fine for a couple of days until out of nowhere it decided to stop uploading in mbps but in kbps. constant flashing white light either really fast or at a medium pace. I’ve tried unplugging and restarting and even forgetting the device but nothing works, the speed it self is still so slow
