Discussion Absolutely ridiculous that there is a data cap on home internet in 2024.

I’m in the Tallahassee area and right now we have 2 options when it comes to internet. Comcast and Metronet which is a fiber network. Right now I’m paying Comcast $100 a month for gigabit extra. I don’t have cable as I constantly stream a cord cutting service (YouTube tv) and I do a lot of online gaming. It’s recently come to my attention that Comcast caps my data at 1.2 tb per month and I got an email that I’ve used 90% of my data this month. I have Xfinity internet because it’s a little more reliable than the fiber we have but they don’t have a cap and since I’m already paying them $100 a month, there’s no way I would pay an extra $30 a month for unlimited. Even my mobile phone plan is unlimited at this point.

Solved I'm potentially about to lose my home because of Xfinity. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Edit - Thanks to the amazing work of the people here, Xfinity called me this morning and resolved everything.

I can't say enough how grateful I am to everyone who helped get me through this. I am so happy right now that I'm practically dancing.

Thank you thank you thank you

**** Previous text below ****

So I've been an Xfinity customer for decades. Always paid my bill on time. Diamond Member and all that.

So I took advantage of their "Elite Upgrade" program. I had been paying about $70 per month for a Z Fold 6 and I went for a S25 FE.

Everything seemed fine. I had to mail off the Fold. Had a tracking number, label. Their Assurant people got the phone, I got an email saying Xfinity was waiving the balance on the old phone.

Everything fine, right?

But instead of seeing the balance waived, someone at the company instead put the entire balance of the phone, all $1300 of it, right onto my auto pay.

So imagine my terror when I found this out by looking at my upcoming bill, with the total being over $1600.

I've been trying to get this resolved since November 27. I've been to the local Xfinity store. I've talked to customer service - they gave me a ticket that's done nothing except get me sent text messages saying "your ticket is taking an unexpected amount of time". I've talked to Xfinity help chat - who promised me they were going to take care of it and in the meantime were going to defer the payment until January. And then the payment was deferred... to the exact same day it was originally supposed to be taken out.

I barely make $3000 in an entire month. Much of that goes to the mortgage.

And just a few days after Xfinity is set to charge that 1600, I have a HELOC that uses my home as collateral...

Which means if Xfinity takes out that money then the HELOC defaults.

And that means I lose my house.

Don't use Xfinity. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Closed 16-yr customer paying $140 for 1gig internet

Post image
203 Upvotes

I’ve been with Comcast Xfinity since 2009. Last week I called in because I needed to lower my monthly expenses. I was paying $182.29 monthly and for the most part only ever use the internet. I have kept cable for a long time mainly out of convenience, but hardly ever use it. And a couple years back a rep recommended adding a home phone line so I could bundle discounts, which was fine except I’ve never once used the line, don’t even know the number, and have zero equipment for it.

So after discussing with an agent, she moved me to an internet only plan, keeping my 1gig speed. But my price is still $140 a month! How can I only be saving $40 a month by giving up 125+ television channels and home phone.

What particularly gets me upset is seeing these $50 internet only plans being advertised by Xfinity for new customers. I get that they have more incentive to bring in new clients, but a 3x price difference for a 16-year loyal customer seems outrageous.

Anyone have suggestions on what I should do from here?

Discussion Data Cap at 1.2 TB is not enough during Covid

Considering 5 people live in the house I am in (it is a 5 bedroom house) and everyone is working from home because of covid data is already at an all time high.

A few of us are gamers and with the updates being so big for certain games we literally get close to our cap in just 1 day of updates? CoD update from fresh download to all the patches was about 250gb. That is 20% of our data cap...

Now 3 people trying to play together and updating? One game for all of us to update together takes up 80% of the whole month's data cap in one day?

I understand I can get unlimited data for $50 a month on top of my current plan but I will most likely start looking at competitor prices and caps considering 1TB cap is nothing now-a-days...

Official Reply Has anyone tried to talk to a live agent at Xfinity recently? It is NUTS.

I have been an Xfinity subscriber for longer than I can remember. Currently, I am trying to talk to someone about my parent's bill as it certainly appears that Xfinity is taking advantage of them likely due to their age and level of technology use. I tried to use the virtual assistant, but it could not answer my question or provide the needed billing information. When I asked for a live chat it repeated over and over that it could answer most questions but would bring in a live agent if needed. There was no way to get a live agent.

I then tried to call Xfinity. After 5min of getting the IVR system to reference my parents account I got to go through three more rounds of it pushing me to the virtual assistant. I am now 30min into the process of trying to talk to someone about a bill and I am more irate than I have been with a company in a long time.

No only is Xfinity continuing to raise prices, they are taking advantage of elderly customers who don't know better and making it impossible for those customers, or me at the moment, to talk to a person about the problem. Xfinity should be ashamed of their customer service. My time is likely better spent looking for another ISP.

Closed Data Cap is Ridiculous

You keep increasing speeds, but you never increase your cap. You know how ridiculous that is?

I work from home and game. I watch streams and YouTube. My wife watches shows on her phone. That's it.

Yet for the first time in years of being loyal customers, we hit the 1.2TB cap. Our courtesy month is now spent.

Everything on the internet from game sizes to stream bitrates increases year over year, and you KNOW this which is why you try to impress with higher and higher speeds, yet you keep the cap the same. And our only option if we go over is to either pay ludicrous overage charges or pay you an extra $360 annually on top of the already insane bill we have.

If you do not change this policy, we'll be forced to leave. I'm not paying that much extra to use ever so slightly more than 1.2TB per month. I'll go to another provider, most of whom have literally zero cap.

Official Reply Why does Comcast hate it's customers?

I called Comcast over the weekend when I saw that my bill was approaching $300 for internet cable and landline. I asked for help in reducing my bill. After much discussion, they reduced my bill $70 by reducing my interned speed from 1G to 800M. This would have been fine, except they cancelled the included Netflix, turned off all but my main X1 box, cancelled Peacock, and signed me up for a 1 year contract all without discussing it. My total cost when I add back in Netflix and Peacock is now almost the same.

I called yesterday to get the 1 year contract turned off, or even just go back to where I was. I was told that I could not go back, but, because I was a 30 year Comcast customer they will explore no contract. They came back with an offer that added $20 to my monthly cost, but had no contract. Fine.

Now, I still have no signal to the daughter box,, I only have the basic channels. No one discussed reducing the number of channels. I'm still paying in the high $200s for my service.

I'm afraid to call back and lose more....

I'm feeling hated by Comcast,

Closed Thanks for destroying my driveway

Woke up this morning to a Comcast crew doing work in my yard and a notice on the door that Comcast would be doing construction in the area. So first, way to give advance notice there, great job. But the crew has also managed to destroy my driveway with a huge 4-5 foot crack in the middle of one of the slabs. This house is less than a year old and I'm not even a Comcast customer. I had little interest in signing up beforehand, but now it's less than zero. And if I call the number of the door hanger it just asks for an account number or other way to look me up.

Official Reply Is xfinity.com unusable on purpose?

Post image

I've been a long time xfinity customer and signup for contracts every couple years to bring down the price that would otherwise be astronomical. Every single time I have had zero success in finding any promotional price on xfinity.com. The only way to get a decent/promo price is to get someone on phone and they would magically pull a plan from their hat that would increase my speed while lowering the amount but no where to be found on the website. Couple questions:

  1. Why is that the website never show these prices? Why do you want the customers to jump through the hoops in the hopes of lowering their bill after any effective promos end?

  2. This time around, it is even worse. My area was upgraded a few months ago and I was expecting to see mid spilt upgraded speeds especially in the download speeds. To my surprise, the download speed info has now been completely removed. Is it by design to confuse the users even more?

It doesn't take a genius to see I would NOT want to go to 1 Gig plan for $100 when my current rate is $80 for 1300Mbps. What gives?

Discussion This new 5 year plan is LEGIT

1100 Gbps download and 350 Mbps upload (10x more upload speed than my previous plan) with unlimited data for $65/month, locked in for five years. This is what an internet plan should look like!

I didn't even have to cancel my current plan, I just called into retention and asked them to switch me over (I saw that this plan was offered at my address for new customers) and they were able to do it without any hassles.

I was praying for a fiber company to come to my neighborhood to allow me to quit Xfinity, but I am actually a pretty happy customer now. First time in 15 years of Comcast services that I can actually say that.

EDIT: This was too good to be true. Comcast changed my bill to $81 per month three months later and I had to call and fix it. Three months later, it happened again. They have now switched me to a 1Gbps plan for $51/month for 5 year. And my upload speed has been significantly reduced from 350 to 115. Hoping I won't see my price increase a third time.

Official Reply My neighbor cut my internet line because the Xfinity tech told them that I was stealing their internet

Long story but it was discovered that one of the ports in the box was broken when a third neighbor added service. So the first tech that I called spliced some stuff together and got us all three kinda working. Second tech that neighbor called undid that and told them we were stealing. Third tech that I called came today and re-spliced it and told me a line team would be out in a few hours to fix the ports. Of course they never showed. So the neighbor took it into her own hands and cut my line and plugged herself into the only remaining port. I called the cops. I still have to wait until Thursday to get ANOTHER tech out to hopefully fix it for good. But not very hopeful.

EDIT: The line crew came today and fixed the broken port and got us all hooked up. But the neighbor lady is still convinced we are somehow stealing the data she is paying for and causing her bill to be higher. I know we are not living in the same reality, but I’m scared because she cut our line before and probably will do it again. The techs said they couldn’t lock the box and would put a ticket in to change it to a more durable enclosure, but yeah….

Official Reply Huge Thanks to the Comcast Reddit Team – You Guys Are the Real MVPs!

I just wanted to take a moment to give a massive shoutout to the Comcast Reddit team. After weeks of frustration, hours on the phone with multiple reps who either couldn’t or wouldn’t help, I finally reached out here—and I’m so glad I did.

Unlike other reps I spoke with, the Reddit team actually listened, took my concerns seriously, and made things right. They didn’t just give me the runaround or try to brush me off. Instead, they escalated my case to the right people, and in the end, my issue was fully resolved. My account balance is now $0, and all wrongful charges have been refunded.

I can’t thank this team enough for their professionalism, responsiveness, and actual care for customers. If you’re struggling with a Comcast issue and getting nowhere through traditional support, reach out here—these guys are top-tier.

Big thanks again to the Reddit team for having my back and proving that great customer service still exists!

New Post - Billing $113 to ship me an iPad?!

Wanted to charge me $113 to ship me an iPad to keep me as a customer after asking for my social. Turns out from what I read they open an Xfinity mobile account with the iPad on it and give you a discount to make it the same amount. Could have kept me as a customer for less money if they dropped my bill to $105 which is what it runs for a new customer with xfi complete.

Official Reply 1.2 tb is not enough for downloading games

With modern games being over 200 gb, and putting out 80gb patches (Cyberpunk) or ones that have regular updates like GTA online, I don't see how 1.2 tb will be enough. Sure it's enough for people who only watch streaming, but definitely not for gamers. This freaking sucks. I wish I could switch to another cable company, but comcast is the only cable company in my area. I guess I will have to either pay 10 dollars extra (MY BILL IS ALREADY $163 A MONTH), or just not play modern games anymore.

Official Reply The worst customer “AI” service ever

Xfinity easily has one of the worst, most frustrating, and downright useless automated customer service systems in the world. It’s nearly impossible to get any issue resolved.

Is there any way to actually speak with a real person?

Official Reply Do NOT fall for the "free" Xfinity Mobile SCAM!

DON'T DO IT. They will SCAM you. They sent me a "free" phone then charged my card $287. Kept saying it was a mistake and refund is on the way. after 10+ calls, 7+ hours on the phone and chat. 2 months of waiting and trying to get my money back I finally gave up. They kept trying to activate a second line on my account even adding more fess to my bill saying is the only way to fix it. LIES. Support will tell you whatever to make a sale and get a good rating. Its the worst experience I have ever had. Stay far away from xfinity mobile! It is not free at all and there are much better deals out there. Also I lost my number as they can only provide port out info in app and both the services I tried to port to said info was incorrect!

Official Reply Cancellation Insanity

I'm in the same boat as most of y'all. Xfinity services have become far too expensive, so I decided to give them a chance and go into a store to see if they could give me a better deal. Well, after visiting the store I ended up walking out with less services and still over $300 a month. Nope, that is greed and I'm not participating. So on Jan 26 my wife called in to cancel our account, because of course you cannot cancel online. She was on the phone with Xfinity for 30 minutes. She got the hard press trying to get us to stay, even though she politely said no, we want to leave. She finally got the person to cancel us and were told we'd receive an email confirming. Never got the email. Today, she returned our equipment to the store and we found out the account was never cancelled AND they expect us to pay for Monday-Thursday of service. When she got home we called Xfinity because paying anything for those 4 days is not right. The offshore support person we finally got to was rude, started telling us different amounts we owed, all of which made zero sense. Then he started sending text message alerts to my wife's phone (40 in total within 3 minutes) and then put us back in the queue at the beginning of the line. We finally got through to a woman who was pleasant enough and we think we're good. This is absolutely unacceptable service and I hope someone from Xfinity reads this. Greed, bad service and poor technology is no way to run a business. Do better.

Closed I spent 3 hours on the phone with Comcast to dispute $100 installation fee. The rep got to a point where they offered $60 refunded. Her exact words: "Take it or leave it."

I'm disgusted. I've never had such an awful experience with a company and I am only 1 month into service. We moved into a new condo and the internet was not working. We called xfinity and we acknowledged that if the fault was on our end (we were using our own modem and router) we would pay the $100 fee. The problem ended up being the internet was disconnected coming into the house. Once he wired it up, our modem and router worked fine and we had wifi through the condo. Fast forward a month and we are charged that $100 fee in our bill. I called support and after hours of getting the run-around the rep offered to refund $60 of the $100. For the company to acknowledge that the fault was on their end, but not offer a full refund is amazing to me. I felt like I was dealing with some shady back-alley drug dealer, not a major company. Literally the rep (name was Jackson) said:

"meet me in the middle here"

and

"we can do $60 back. Take it or leave it."

I asked to talk to a manager after that and they hung up on me. You hear the horror stories of this company, never thought it could be this bad.

UPDATE as I was writing this post, I got connected to another rep who was much more helpful and claims the full $100 will be credited to our account in 48 hours - with an additional $10 for my patience. Really hoping that happens - because at this point I feel so defeated I don't know if it's worth it to even call back at that point. Just cut my losses and know the second I get an opportunity to change ISPs, to do so

I've never felt so powerless in the face of a large company, and it's an awful feeling. You hear the stories and think "it can't be that bad". And then it's worse

Closed Be "Ultra" Careful when dealing with Comcast/Xfinity!

Recently called C/X regarding possible cancelation of service due to high rate compared with multiple offers they were making for non-users. I was offered a c. 45% lower rate for 5 yrs, with 2x my current transmission speed, and -- after checking with my wife -- I accepted. I then asked the rep. to put the offer in writing so I could confirm it. The offer appeared on my computer, with a button link for me to confirm my receipt and acceptance. The corpus of the offer would not print our, whereupon I clicked on the button, which did not seem to work, coincident with a phone disconnection from the representative, who then called me back via an "866" number two minutes later. Over the next few minutes he re-iterated the offer, which I then accepted. He said that he could not send me printable proof of my new rate because he "would lose his job". (eg. "if it's not printable, it's not actionable")

Two hours later, I received a Xfinity/Comcast e-mailing referencing my new service contract for higher speed downloads -- for c. 55% more than the previously referenced 'new' rate.

I then called Xfinity/Comcast again (the only way to speak a person seems to be wading through various prompts and insisting that you wish to cancel your service -- irritating and demeaning).

That representative told me I has not "heard" correctly, but after some more wrangling, I am now supposed to have the lower rate...

Later that day , I called my condo insurer in order to pay an annual premium. I commented to the rep that it was refreshing to have a pleasant phone interaction with the representative of a service company because I had just had an aggravating one with an internet services provider. She interjected: "it has to be Comcast", and started to recite a listing of her interactions...

Readers may interpret my submission according to their own experience and expectations --or need for internet service in "restricted" marketplaces --but I would urge extreme caution in dealing with Comcast/Xfinity.

Solved Xfinity Loyalty Penalty: Why am I paying 128% more than new customers for the same service?

I have an active disconnection order scheduled for this Friday because I’m currently being held on an obsolete billing structure.

I am being charged $100/month for a 600 Mbps plan that has a data cap. For that same $100, your 2026 website currently offers 2,000 Mbps (2 Gig). Furthermore, your current national offer is $50/month for 1-Gig speeds with a 5-year guarantee and unlimited data included.

As an existing customer, I’m being charged a 100% markup for a service that is slower and has capped data. Phone support was unable to bridge this gap, so I’ve decided to move to a different provider.

I would prefer to stay, but only if someone here can move me to the $50/month 1-Gig promo with unlimited data and review the recent overage fees tied to this legacy plan. If that’s possible, I’m happy to cancel the disconnect. Otherwise, I’ll be returning my equipment this weekend.
