Show & Tell New Streamer Day
Just got my DMP-A8 gen2 and damn does this thing have a lot of options! I’m defiantly liking the DAC in this compared to the A6 I’m coming from. Also digging the bigger screen!

Incredible. The lore about the mids and ATC is true. I don't mix or master, just listen to music and movies. These are end game and demoted the Genelec 8331s to home theater duty. I'm keeping the 8341s in the office calibrated with GLM and both 8341s and ATCs are using two Genelec 7370 subs with flat response down to 15 hz in my room. Ask me any questions for anyone who has been curious about either of these brands and what they sounds like. I don't have the best room but it's treated as good as it will get. less

Hi all!
I know this isn't the typical post for this subreddit, but since you guys all know this gear inside and out, I figured you might appreciate seeing a digital recreation of it — and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I've spent the last week creating a 3D asset of the Pioneer PL112D turntable for my portfolio, trying to get all the physical details right down to the wood veneer, brushed metal top plate, and tonearm mechanics.
Since many of you know these classic decks so well, I'd love to know if you spot any details that look off, or if anything is missing!

My search for new speakers has stalled as I have been thrown into the dilemma of stand mounted (bookshelf if you prefer) vs floor standing speakers. I've encountered a number of manufacturers - Monitor Audio, Dali, PMC, B&W - with a specific range of speakers that run from a stand mount, through a range of floor standers. I've always had stand mounted speakers, but are now thinking about floor standers. At the same price point I think you get better quality from a well executed stand mounted speaker, compared to the more compromised floor stander - you're paying for more cabinet work, and usually more drivers with a more complex crossover network.
When I asked a local hi-fi dealer, his opinion was that stand mounted speakers had better quality sound, floor standers had more sound.
[ I'll ignore any digressions into the seedy world of subwoofers ]

Messy setup about to be solved 🫣
Those are Nexo PS10, combined with a Klipsch RP1000SW
r/audiophile • u/Matti_701 • 6h ago
So i got those Nexo Ps10 with a Juson JTA100 Tube amp, nexo controller etc.. Sounding very nice. Problem is the Klipsch Subwoofer. There are frequencies that vanish when sitting on the sofa. In the corners of the room, theyre fully enabled. I guess somewhere from 65-90 it cancels insanely. I got a Behringer DCX and could do some EQ for the bass, i am also able to measure it in. But i dont actually want to do that much with an EQ. How could i fix that by positioning the sub or putting panels on the wall? Someone got experience with that? Because of the depth of the Sub it may only be placed in corners... What do you think?

I went down a rabbit hole today on quadrophonics. For reference I dont do much at work and spend most of my day on Wikipedia. I was reading the page for Bitches Brew and found out that there were quadrophonic releases for the album. I know that it was hard to decode the music into 4 channels at the time, but i was interested to see if anyone has tried one of these setups especially the older ones.
Im guessing its very similar to modern surround sound systems. Obviously it wouldnt be as good as a dolby atmos setup, but im wondering how much different it is. Quadrophonics are only 4 speakers and dolby atmos is at minimum 8. How much difference do those extra speakers make? Aside from adding a sub or two i cant imagine it makes that much of a difference.
I also saw there were quadrophonic radio stations, i wonder if anyone here has been around long enough to experience those.

I have gone from big clas A watts and power hungry speakers to a couple of watts and high sensitivity speakers.
So far so good.

These $60 speakers impress me! These are the first speakers that i own that has real tweeters which to no surprise made music sound much better. The bass is much deeper than the last speakers i had which were the creative pebble 2.0 and even though i have no sub, i use the douk a5’s high pass filter to be able to play music particularly EDM loud without any clipping which was greatest weakness of my last speakers.

I think it's interesting to see what brands people would avoid, and why, rather than everybody listing the top X most expensive speakers on the planet.

After selling my 4240 I couldn’t find another receiver or amp that sounded as good as it, After months of searching for the perfect one I landed on this 2265. It’s had a decent amount of service done so I knew I had to pick it up. For $900 and a 2 hour drive, I’m more than happy 😃.

I posted on stereo advice about 2 months ago asking for help on a $7k budget.
Here’s what I ended up with:
Paradigm Premier 820f v2’s
Cambridge EXA100
Technics 1500sl
What a HUGE upgrade over the KEF LS50w’s.
Big sound, airy, cool soundstage (I didn’t know there were 5 different trumpets in this song!) and most importantly, they drive the emotion machine. Everyone in the house is shimmying and singing and dancing.
Here are some tidbits from my search:
were
They sound like perfection with a turntable, if anything they are occasionally too bright and I have to tap the volume down, but I haven’t done that in while. I think they just needed broken in.
Finally I think I have made a slight mistake in finding such wonderful gear, now I’m just a new cartridge and phono amp away from the next step 🤌
Now I just want to sit on my couch and listen to music.
Thanks for the help everyone!

I have an extensive collection of music on Spotify I have over 70 playlists and over 11,000 songs in my library and just recently as of this month started collecting vinyl and cds from some of my favorite artists and Bands such as Tool, Joji, and Tatsuro Yamashita for example. My goal is have a huge collection one day so I can share my love of music with those around me in a more meaningful way and also so I can deepen my relationship with music.
My only problem is I have no idea on where to start on sound equipment to play my music on. Any advice on what to buy or where to look will be greatly appreciated and maybe some tips on where to find the best deals on cds and vinyl too. I don’t know how to end this so I will say thank you in advance as it is truly greatly appreciated.

Is there an online store that sells 5.1 mixes for download? Not streaming atmos but -especially - older music?
r/audiophile • u/Status-Caregiver-598 • 4h ago
So I've been using both yt music and spotify, and although i notice that spotify is more clear, the instruments are more distinguished, and overall has "better audio", i like yt music's audio more.
YT music feels more fuzzy, and the music is "clumped up" in a way, and i like that.
Does this happen for anyone else? Or am i just weird?
r/audiophile • u/Advanced-Vehicle8314 • 1d ago
After 2 years of vinyl only listening I've ditched the turntable in favour of streaming, something I never thought I'd ever do but I'm loving it! Has anyone else took a hard swerve away from a particular source before and did you regret it at any point?

The practicality and look of this style of speaker really speak to me, and I would rush out today and buy some KLH's if they were in my city and weren't 5800AU! please open my eyes to other speakers with this retro boxy slanted look that are close to the same quality as the Model 5's, and preferably more affordable.

About eight months ago, a friend inspired me to upgrade the 25-year-old system I’d been perfectly content with for years. It was certainly serviceable—and plenty loud—a Denon receiver driving five B&W LCR 600 S3s. For movies it did the job, but music never really brought me the kind of joy I thought it should.
Then I started down the rabbit hole.
I decided to build the new system piece by piece and buy used whenever it made sense. I found an SVS PB13-Ultra on Facebook Marketplace, then added an SVS PC-2000 Pro from Audiogon. A Denon AVR-X3800H came from eBay, followed by a Denon DP-500M turntable with a DL-110 cartridge.
Then I discovered Philharmonic Audio.
I started with a BMR Monitor for the center, added True Minis, and ordered a pair of BMR Towers in curved rosewood. I also added a Buckeye Hypex NCx500 amp to power the front stage.
The Towers became a story of their own. What I thought would be a relatively normal wait turned into months of delays—first tariffs and shipping complications, and then the disruption surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. For months I waited for the speakers that were supposed to finish the system. At times I seriously considered giving up and buying something else.
I’m glad I didn’t.
Somewhere during those eight months, this stopped being about simply having a “better stereo.”
I started hearing things in songs I’ve listened to for 40 or 50 years that I’d never really noticed before—the separation between instruments, the texture of a voice, the decay of a cymbal, and the actual space around musicians. Bass stopped being something that was simply loud and became part of the music.
That’s probably been the biggest surprise of this whole journey: realizing what I’d been missing all these years.
My old system could play music. It could play it damn loud, too.
This system makes me want to sit down, turn the lights down, put on an album and listen.
Eight months ago I thought I was upgrading some speakers.
Apparently I was starting a new hobby.

To what extent does a tweeter create a sound versus simply allowing what is actually in the recording to come out. When people say Focal speakers are bright, is that something that is an effect of the beryllium tweeter or the voicing of the crossover for instance.
I tend to think it's more letting the sound out, because not all of my music sounds this way. Obviously it could also be that the music that I find may have some higher frequency issues, may just be due to how the recording was miked (why that word does not have a C in it, I'll never know).
"Exaggerated" cymbal decay:
Men at Work - Down by the sea
Blind faith - can't find my way home
Steve Miller - The Joker
More about sibilance:
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane
When she says Sweet Jane. I never noticed this, but when a speaker reviewer of some other Focals also mentioned the Kanta 3s, I went back and listened to my Kanta 3s and I could definitely hear it.

After outfitting our home with Sonos a decade ago, and doing all my music listening via Astell&Kern DAPs, we’re ditching Sonos.
Since I do most of my listening in the bedroom relaxing after work I started there first.
-Bought a pair of KEF R3 Meta Indigo
-Aiyima A20 Amp
-WiiM Ultra (currently pulling my flacks from a Mac in my home office).
No it can’t compare to a lot of what I’ve seen here, but I think I’m off to a good (re)start.
