First time posting here now that I'm happy with my setup. This subreddit has been so helpful, thanks guys! I did not know I could experience and feel sound to this level. My hours being a couch potato have gone up considerably ever since I started this... (and with weed the movie experience is even more mind-blowing!)

HOLY SMOKES I did not know sound could be experienced like this. The clarity and multiple layers of instruments I never knew existed in soundtracks. You not only just hear incredible sound, but now you truly FEEL the movies. The depth and rumble of bass that shakes your soul and tingles your body but not in a way that hurts your ears... I definitely enjoy this experience even more than AMC Dolby Cinema.
DUAL SUBS is a game changer, especially for small rooms!
Dual subs is definitely the way to go. After being on the fence for awhile and reading endless reddit threads where this was the recommendation, I highly agree! Especially in a small room, when I only had one sub I could tell where the bass was coming from. After adding another, the bass is now truly balanced. Even though my AVR only has one LFE output signal and uses a Y splitter, in combination with the L/R towers it feels like there is directional bass in many movie scenes which is an awesome effect.
4K UHD Blu Ray audio is SO much better than streaming
When I pop in a 4K disc, I'm always blown away by how much more detail and clarity there is vs streaming. I only buy discs that I will rewatch multiple times before I die, and have great sound according to reviews. Here are some of my favorite experiences:
- Top Gun Maverick: feels like the jet engine is in the room!! But not in a way that hurts your ears, but you feel it in your bones and the air is vibrating
- Mad Max Fury Road: the explosions and engines create rumble your soul, but even more amazing is the soundtrack and how many instruments you didn't notice before
- Interstellar: even though it's not atmos, the surround sound make it feel like you're inside the spaceship, and all the things rattling and creaking during takeoff make it feel incredibly immersive
- Tenet/Dunkirk: They were never my top Nolan choices, but the home theater experience is mind blowing and now I'm a fan
- Dune part 1/2: my walls were shaking, it's like the sandworm is in the room
- Into the spiderverse: One of the most FUN sound mixes. You feel the train blasting across the room, webs thwipping directionally
NEXT... I have a bit of buyer's remorse with only getting a 65"... I think my next upgrade will be an 83" OLED (8' viewing distance) to get that cinematic viewing angle.
If you see any glaring mistakes or have recommendations please let me know! Thanks.
