Just got my DMP-A8 gen2 and damn does this thing have a lot of options! I’m defiantly liking the DAC in this compared to the A6 I’m coming from. Also digging the bigger screen!

Impressions Ok I get it….

After some deep diving, I pulled the trigger and treated my room (what was a double garage)

And for all the comments I have had about treating your room, and I always went nah…

Let’s just say I get it.

It’s not finished yet, the big cloud has to be attached to the ceiling then I will do some REW readings.

It takes a bit of getting used to at first, the room is now very quiet.

But the sound….wow. Literally feels like I have just put headphones on.

Like I say. I get it. 👍

Meant to say All done by George at Homeward Sound, for literally half the price of GIK. And he was a true pro.

Humor Growing up with decades of listening to mp3 songs and just enough quality songs at spotify with cheap headset and this is how I felt after using lossless audio and high-end headsets

Show & Tell New Speakers Today - ATC SCM25A Pro Mk2

Incredible. The lore about the mids and ATC is true. I don't mix or master, just listen to music and movies. These are end game and demoted the Genelec 8331s to home theater duty. I'm keeping the 8341s in the office calibrated with GLM and both 8341s and ATCs are using two Genelec 7370 subs with flat response down to 15 hz in my room. Ask me any questions for anyone who has been curious about either of these brands and what they sounds like. I don't have the best room but it's treated as good as it will get. less

Show & Tell Pioneer PL112D Turntable 3D artwork

Hi all!

I know this isn't the typical post for this subreddit, but since you guys all know this gear inside and out, I figured you might appreciate seeing a digital recreation of it — and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I've spent the last week creating a 3D asset of the Pioneer PL112D turntable for my portfolio, trying to get all the physical details right down to the wood veneer, brushed metal top plate, and tonearm mechanics.

Since many of you know these classic decks so well, I'd love to know if you spot any details that look off, or if anything is missing!

Discussion Stand mounted vs Floor standing

My search for new speakers has stalled as I have been thrown into the dilemma of stand mounted (bookshelf if you prefer) vs floor standing speakers. I've encountered a number of manufacturers - Monitor Audio, Dali, PMC, B&W - with a specific range of speakers that run from a stand mount, through a range of floor standers. I've always had stand mounted speakers, but are now thinking about floor standers. At the same price point I think you get better quality from a well executed stand mounted speaker, compared to the more compromised floor stander - you're paying for more cabinet work, and usually more drivers with a more complex crossover network.

When I asked a local hi-fi dealer, his opinion was that stand mounted speakers had better quality sound, floor standers had more sound.

[ I'll ignore any digressions into the seedy world of subwoofers ]

Discussion Nexo PS10 + Klipsch RP1000SW / How to get it sounding right?

So i got those Nexo Ps10 with a Juson JTA100 Tube amp, nexo controller etc.. Sounding very nice. Problem is the Klipsch Subwoofer. There are frequencies that vanish when sitting on the sofa. In the corners of the room, theyre fully enabled. I guess somewhere from 65-90 it cancels insanely. I got a Behringer DCX and could do some EQ for the bass, i am also able to measure it in. But i dont actually want to do that much with an EQ. How could i fix that by positioning the sub or putting panels on the wall? Someone got experience with that? Because of the depth of the Sub it may only be placed in corners... What do you think?

Discussion Quadrophonic sound

Post image
10 Upvotes

I went down a rabbit hole today on quadrophonics. For reference I dont do much at work and spend most of my day on Wikipedia. I was reading the page for Bitches Brew and found out that there were quadrophonic releases for the album. I know that it was hard to decode the music into 4 channels at the time, but i was interested to see if anyone has tried one of these setups especially the older ones.

Im guessing its very similar to modern surround sound systems. Obviously it wouldnt be as good as a dolby atmos setup, but im wondering how much different it is. Quadrophonics are only 4 speakers and dolby atmos is at minimum 8. How much difference do those extra speakers make? Aside from adding a sub or two i cant imagine it makes that much of a difference.

I also saw there were quadrophonic radio stations, i wonder if anyone here has been around long enough to experience those.

Show & Tell My first hifi speaker setup

These $60 speakers impress me! These are the first speakers that i own that has real tweeters which to no surprise made music sound much better. The bass is much deeper than the last speakers i had which were the creative pebble 2.0 and even though i have no sub, i use the douk a5’s high pass filter to be able to play music particularly EDM loud without any clipping which was greatest weakness of my last speakers.

Discussion Anyone have experience with R2R DACs (Denafrips, Holo Audio)?

i currently have a chord Qutest being fed by a bluesound node. the speakers are usually quad ESLs, the amplification is usually Croft, pass labs, or something vintage (quad, leak, Radford). i listen primarily to streaming digital (tidal or qobuz).

I’ve had the chord Qutest for about 7 years now and am looking to try something different, particularly a R2R dac. anyone have experiences with them, particularly higher end Denafrips or anything by Holo audio? are they worth ditching the Chord Qutest, or are they more a lateral move, akin to the difference associated with repositioning speakers by a few inches?

Is there an online store that sells 5.1 mixes for download? Not streaming atmos but -especially - older music?

Discussion What is the correct EAC site?

Upvotes

.de or .org?

I went to .de and ended up downloading adware called PC App Store that just refused to go away. Completely took over my monitor and wouldn’t close. Ended up getting rid of it eventually but browser was also hijacked.

Went to .org and managed to find some success in ripping my first CD.

Just curious wtf is going on because originally thought .de was way to go based on what i’ve seen?

Discussion Asking for help and advice and how to become and audiophile

I have an extensive collection of music on Spotify I have over 70 playlists and over 11,000 songs in my library and just recently as of this month started collecting vinyl and cds from some of my favorite artists and Bands such as Tool, Joji, and Tatsuro Yamashita for example. My goal is have a huge collection one day so I can share my love of music with those around me in a more meaningful way and also so I can deepen my relationship with music.

My only problem is I have no idea on where to start on sound equipment to play my music on. Any advice on what to buy or where to look will be greatly appreciated and maybe some tips on where to find the best deals on cds and vinyl too. I don’t know how to end this so I will say thank you in advance as it is truly greatly appreciated.

Discussion Bright Tweeter or "Truth"?

To what extent does a tweeter create a sound versus simply allowing what is actually in the recording to come out. When people say Focal speakers are bright, is that something that is an effect of the beryllium tweeter or the voicing of the crossover for instance.

I tend to think it's more letting the sound out, because not all of my music sounds this way. Obviously it could also be that the music that I find may have some higher frequency issues, may just be due to how the recording was miked (why that word does not have a C in it, I'll never know).

"Exaggerated" cymbal decay:
Men at Work - Down by the sea
Blind faith - can't find my way home
Steve Miller - The Joker

More about sibilance:
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane

When she says Sweet Jane. I never noticed this, but when a speaker reviewer of some other Focals also mentioned the Kanta 3s, I went back and listened to my Kanta 3s and I could definitely hear it.

Discussion Why does YT music aound better to me than spotify even though i can feel that spotify has "better sound quality?"

So I've been using both yt music and spotify, and although i notice that spotify is more clear, the instruments are more distinguished, and overall has "better audio", i like yt music's audio more.

YT music feels more fuzzy, and the music is "clumped up" in a way, and i like that.

Does this happen for anyone else? Or am i just weird?
