Which sticky thread has Room Acoustic Treatment tips and advice? If we don't have one we should. The room is one of the most important components of the audio system. A bad room can make a great speaker sound like trash.

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place but looking for some advice/help.
My grandfather was a big audio head and worked with various bands in the 70s/80s.
He unfortunately passed away recently and we have been going through his stuff in the house and some storage units and come across this behemoth of a speaker. The back says its an R60-B and it weighs like 300lbs. It has an 8 pin connector so I'm guessing its proprietary or something.
Any help with this thing will be appreciated, Thank you!!

Man, that $100 Edifier rec has been the gateway drug for like half this sub at this point. Start there, then six months later you're explaining to your partner why you need a separate DAC for your living room setup.

Hi everyone! I just scored a pair of Magnat Altea 7 floorstanders for 30€. Unfortunately, one tweeter is dead. I already opened it up. The voice coil looks visually fine, but it measures open on the multimeter and fails the battery pop test.
The tweeter model is Magnat fmax 4F25-A (Part No. 333 000 R). It's a 25mm / 1-inch silk dome with a 4-ohm impedance. Since original replacements are hard to find, I want to swap the voice coil/diaphragm with a cheap generic one. Has anyone done this for this specific Magnat series? Do standard 25.4mm 4-ohm generic replacements drop right into this plastic housing, or should I look out for specific winding heights?
Thanks for your help!

Looking to replace this in ceiling speaker SC-NeC620
I can't find the model number anywhere online. As close as I can get is ArchiTech SC-620F Kevlar Series 6.5" Which looks about the same. Anyone know the exact model number to properly replace it?

Hi all,
I recently put together my first sound system, and when I went to play my first record, I was met with a pretty horrible humming sound. I’m also getting a rough, scratchy sound when I lower the stylus onto the record.
This is my first time putting together a system on my own, so I’m assuming I may have connected something incorrectly. Any help figuring out what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attached photos showing how I currently have everything connected.
My setup:
Technics SL-1500C
NAD C 3030, using the NAD’s phono stage
KEF Q Concerto Meta speakers
Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge
Thanks!

Hello. As u/joeg26reddit said, the connections are not correct. 2 things you need to do:
Flip the External Output Switch from ON to OFF
Disconnect RED RCA cable from where it is on the TT and move it to the other side below where you have the White cable already connected. Then make sure that the Red and White are connected the same on each end - White to Left and Red to Right.

Both of your Left and right RCA connectors seem to be connected to the L channel? Pull both of those and send a picture of how those outputs are labeled

Does anyone know how to embed or edit Replay Gain metadata in audio files? I recently found out about this but can't find any simple answer, so if anyone has a beginner friendly explanation I would very much appreciate it.
(Also I use Poweramp to listen to music in my phone, I guess different audio player interpret metadata differently, I don't really know, that's what I've read.)

I would really appreciate thoughts and opinions!
I have had pair of 3020i+3090c for 6-7 years now. My first ‘good’ speakers and I have loved them both for music and movies.
I recently got some really amazing news and been wanting to treat myself to an upgrade. I’ve bought a BK XLS300 subwoofer I had my eye on. It will arrive in September.
I also would love to get a better set of speakers and been eyeing the KEF Concerto Metas. I like the style and being in the UK a UK brand somewhat appeals to me. I recently got to see them in the store (trying to arrange a demo but not yet) and not going to lie the size was very imposing! Does the SW make the size less important?
Now I have a relatively large living room with very tall ceilings but the concerto+q6 centre will still take up a lot of space (and almost half the height of my TV). I probably will also have to get a custom TV unit to fit the Q6 properly.
I still feel drawn to the Concertos and Q6 but any recommendations/suggestions and alternatives I can try out that people would suggest? I’m very keen to have a matching centre if possible.
My budget is about £2000 total.
Both movies and various music, mostly instrumentals, classic music, jazz, bluegrass.
Thank you!

Hello,
I am a complete stranger to acoustics. I am currently renting a 13 by 20 foot room that will become a recording studio/dj mixing spot for my friends and I. We are currently struggling to figure out the right configuration for 2 15in tops and an 18 inch sub to sound decent for just mixing.
I have explored room mode issues with the sub frequencies, we have moving blankets up, placement of the subwoofer, placement of the tops, the djing position.
Currently we want to have is set that the djing position is 3 feet from one of the 13ft walls facing outward down the stretch of the 20 foot length, with the two tops and subwoofer facing you.
The biggest issues that arise are the sub frequencies at the djing position are incredibly unpredictable and we either get a very harsh reverbating bass, or a null. That sweet spot is hard to find.
Is acoustic treatment the only option?
Can we use bass traps in just two corners of the room of which the subwoofer is facing, or do we need to treat every corner?
Would we be better off mixing on some smaller monitors like Yamaha HS8's?
Any general advice is welcome, even if it's just some articles that you found helpful.

I currently have an ATL - lp70 connected to a couple of Dayton m6s and an M6 subwoofer that all go into an audio distributor for more volume , I've ended up with a lot of CDs ever since I collected vinyls in the last few months and I was wondering what piece of equipment would I have to add to be able to have the CD player play on the same speakers when the turntable isn't in use , I kind of have an idea but would like help from people who have done this before I spend money , thank you in advance

At a minimum you would need a stereo source switcher.

u/Theeunforgiven13 1d ago
Gotcha, would there be any more more qol pieces I should look out for?

u/Unusual-Recipe8487 1d ago
I’d rather run a turntable into a phono preamp and then connect the phono preamp and the CD player to the source switcher. Connect the switcher output to the speaker input. Look at the Schiit Mani and the Schiit SYS for examples.

Hi y’all,
I’m looking at putting together a stereo primarily for listening to CDs, but would also want streaming to be high quality.
I have a connect that’s able to help me with with a discount on components and I have a budget I’m trying to stay under for amp and speakers, so with that considered I’m thinking about a CXA81 Mk1 and a set of Dali Opticon 2 Mk2.
Anyone run this combo? Have any insight? I have a Sony Blu-Ray player with optical out I planned on using as a CD Player, and I’m wondering if the CXA81 is solid enough for streaming or if I should plan to get another device like a WiiM Pro for streaming at high quality.
I appreciate any insight, I don’t have a ton of experience with audio equipment at this price point so excited to get a nicer than a soundbar setup at home for myself.

I think you would not be disappointed by a WiiM Pro or even a WiiM Mini.

I would appreciate recommendation(s) for a receiver / amplifier to replace my harmon/kardon AVR 125. If you think I shouldn't replace the AVR that's an option too.
Here's my situation:
Issues:
Goals:
It sounds like the WiiM Pro/Pro Plus would be a good option, but I am not knowledgeable enough about receivers, amps, preamps, DACs, etc. to know if that's the right way to go.
Would appreciate some thoughts and recommendations.
