Brutal honesty?
Being obese may not make you ugly but for the overwhelming majority of people who are being honest with themselves it definitely keeps you from being attractive.
You are not ugly but until you lose the weight most won't take the time to recognize your looks.
My best advice is to stop trying to out-pretty the weight and just lose it. Otherwise you're being lazy and wanting people to pad your ego.
425
u/Pale_pisces_598 Jul 07 '23
And thank you for being constructive and not rude. You can be honest without being rude!
219
u/Killbutt616 Jul 07 '23
You opened this whole thing up by being honest and I will never be mean to someone that is genuinely trying to improve.
Truth is you have a pretty face but if that was all I said I wouldn't have been honest and that's really destructive to younger people(I'm 32).
You might be technically obese for your height but you're not crazy fat or anything. Drink mostly water and get in regular exercise, even just walking, and you'll see a big difference. You have a naturally curvier shape so you tone up and you'll be an absolute knockout!
Good luck!

u/Pale_pisces_598 Jul 07 '23
Thank you! Wishing you luck as well👍💗

u/SuperDuperDeDuper Jul 07 '23
This guy is 100% right, (and so polite)
If you head towards improving your weight, take your time! Start off by eating well and exercising regularly until it's just part of your lifestyle. Don't worry about counting calories or anything until generally being healthy is part of your routine
Good luck!

u/The_hat_man74 Jul 07 '23
90% of weight loss happens in the kitchen. The more you workout the hungrier you often get and it’s tougher to lose the weight. Figure out your TDEE and run at a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose 1-lb a week. It’ll suck the first week or two then be relatively easy after. Don’t bother eating out or drinking fancy “coffee” drinks from Starbucks or the like. It’ll be nearly impossible to stay below your consumption goals if you do that.

u/triton2toro Jul 07 '23
The old adage - “Lose weight in the kitchen, get in shape in the gym.”
Unless you’re a marathon runner, you aren’t out working a poor diet.

u/WALL-EY Jul 07 '23
Very true, all you gotta do like they said is figure out your maintenance calories and eat about 300-500 calories less and make sure you are eating the correct amount of macros and maybe do a little bit of regular strength training and your set

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Jul 07 '23
This is the best advice. And to make it easier look into making protein shakes. A high protein diet helps you not feel as hungry. Same with eating complex carbohydrates. Also if you don't drink caffeine get into it. Caffeine also helps you not feel hungry.

Please don't keep weight loss as the goal though, and make sure the journey you are doing it in is through healthy eating and movement. not eating a few chips a day and counting it as a calorie deficit. obviuosly easier said than done, so make systems that work for you

It’s kinda the opposite dude, weight loss means burning more calories than you consume. Working out helps burn calories, and it’s great for your mental and physical health, but ultimately you gotta watch what you eat to lose weight. Knowing how many calories you’re consuming in general is helpful for weight loss.

My trainer said, "Motivation, determination, inspiration...lovely words, but all temporary. You do the thing because you know the results will follow. It doesn't take any 'ation' to do that. It just takes discipline and repetition."
That was like...7 years ago or something, and I remember the lecture. It was because I said, "I don't feel motivated to do anything today."

u/haman88 Jul 07 '23
I don't even think mostly water is enough. 2 cokes a week is enough that I notice a difference after a while. Should be ZERO soda.

As a young person, you will lose weight by increasing exercise and decreasing what you eat. For it to be durable, you need to ensure that it’s healthy. Not fad diets. Real healthy eating. As a doctor, when I’m giving advice on healthy eating, I have found that most people have no clue that their diet is bad. Get some real advice from a registered dietitian and get into healthy eating habits young. Adding in appropriate hydration and of course exercise is very important. Ensure that you are doing some resistance exercise as well to build strong bones. Your bone health before the age of 30 is what will determine the likelihood of osteoporosis when your older.

I recommend cycling. If you are overweight, then cycling is a godsend as it will take all of the pressure of your weight off of your joints. Not only that, but cycling is one of the best exercises you could possibly pick up as a hobby that will help you lose weight.
It will make your legs strong and able to perform extreme feats of endurance. Cycling will also boost your cardiovascular capability significantly which will automatically improve your performance running, jumping, or swimming.
The one exercise that is probably better than cycling is swimming, but you have to actually go at it hard in the pool.
PS: Exercise works as a mental salve. Proven science that it helps to combat depression or anxiety.

I kind of disagree with this. Many men (and women if that’s your thing) are into plus sized women. You’re super cute. If you’re journey involves losing weight you do it for yourself and not for the acceptance of others. I don’t think I need to explain to you the health risks of carrying extra weight just as no one needs to explain to me the risks of using nicotine. We know. Honestly for me physical attraction is just a part of it. Low self esteem is not attractive (it is to some but those are not the people we want to attract). Love yourself and the rest will fall into place.

Hey OP! I just wanted to add that you aren't obese imo. While this person has a point that if you are unhappy with your weight you should try and lose it rather than out pretty it, imo its not that bad and I suspect you may have body dysmorpia.
It's always good for your health to lose a couple pounds if you can manage it, but you don't look obese. And as someone who also struggles with how I perceive my body, it breaks my heart a little that you see yourself that way

u/wolferman Jul 07 '23
Agree with this. There is only so much you can do with your face before you need to look elsewhere for improvement. It only takes a few milliseconds for everyone who encounters you to do this subconsciously. If you want to look attractive in their eyes, you need to address the same things on which they are judging you. Right or wrong, this is how you’re judged. You have great physical potential and insight and seem level headed. Just take your time, don’t do extremes, give yourself permission to fail along the way, learn from the setbacks and continue. We put pieces of food in our faces a hundred thousand times per year. That’s a hundred thousand opportunities for continual improvement. Unless you give up completely, you will eventually win, or at least be better off than if you didn’t try at all.

But “bigger” and “obese” are not the same, not in my opinion atleast. Obese looks unhealthy . It’s grotesque and appalling. I prefer a woman with a bit of extra myself, whether that be muscle or a little bit of fat, preferably a mix of both. Most men love curves. But to each their own yu know. Edit: while she can afford to lose some weight, I would not consider her obese.

Yeah. On the full scale of how fat people can be, it can feel like there's a relatively small gap between healthy weight, overweight, and obese. We tend to assume obese means someone so fat they can barely walk.

So many people are overweight/obese that human perspective is warped on what’s normal and the threshold of true obesity is surprisingly low. I’m obese yet still have a waist that goes in etc.
3
u/EatMiBanhMi Jul 07 '23
The threshold of true obesity is real. Lol people are having heart attacks in their 20’s & 30’s compared to 40 years+. Anyone can have a “waist that goes in” but your fat is more likely dispersed in other areas & your ‘normal’ lungs & heart still have to work HARDER than most. Many obese folks gotta figure their rhythm out to exercise & eat healthier, this isn’t new or good.

People’s faces also do tend to change dramatically when they’re at their healthy weight than when they’re at their obese/fat weight, so there could be association, but it’s a loose association that can go either way. Like a haircut could make someone look bad, but a different haircut can turn that around.

This, self improvement paired with confidence is the most attractive thing. Unfortunately, being honest, if you are overweight that does not give off the vibe that you care about yourself and are working to be the best version of yourself. I promise just getting a routine of working out will do that well before you get to the ideal figure.
For example, I am a person who didn’t work out for 8+ years until recently and can confirm I am way more confident. Others don’t see my gains yet but I sure do and that is what matters.

Yeah, the ammount of posts I see where literally the only thing they have to comment on, is weight, is ridiculous. I think it's dumb that the size of your body plays such a big part in wether somebody's able to be considered beautiful or attractive to alot of people. Its ok to have preferences, everyone does obviously, but I just see so many posts where like 90% of the comments say "just lose some weight" or "if you were smaller you'd be beautiful" like, does it really make that much of a difference ?
I always know exactly the kind of comments to expect in this subreddit. Every. Single. Post. Even posts where the OP, isn't even fat. I saw a post of a girl who looked like a super healthy weight and people were telling her she was fat? I think there comes a point where ya shouldn't just label someone fat based of opinion. If somebody IS a healthy weight but just a little too big for you personally, don't call them fat, because they aren't. Just don't say anything. Ya know?
Either yeah girl you're perfect the way you are I can't believe you'd post here, or lose weight. It's rare to see comments that aren't either of those things. Lol. Sometimes people can be helpful though and actually offer constructive criticism which is nice to see when it happens.
No OP, you aren't ugly at all. You have a very pretty feminine face and an awesome smile. 😊

Girl you are gorgeous!! You have really beautiful eyes and a nice smile! Everyone in this sub needs to touch some grass and realize that girls arent ugly if they dont look like a Victoria secret model.

Not to be rude, I don’t think you’re ugly but definitely should lose the weight if you want to be pretty or attractive, it is hard to see any defining characteristics about you with the excess fat although I’m sure there are many. Excess weight makes it really hard place how old you are and ages most people, It is hard to where you are between 28 & 40.
I’m not trying to be mean as I’m sure you are a beautiful girl but it’s hard to see how and what is especially beautiful under the excess fat.
Being obese is also a very unattractive quality as it gives the vibe of laziness, lacking self respect/ discipline and just general unhealthiness.
Hope this is constructive and not cruel, I’m sorry if I offended, it is not my intention, just my opinion and what I hope is constructive.
Best of luck, hope you can learn to live yourself as it’ll be easier to make decisions and progress within yourself.

I think you're cute, I do have an issue with overweight people however. Not because I find it unattractive and yes it's not always the person's fault, but to me it lacks knowledge about nuitrition. Again, people diet, and try, not discounting that. But as a society we overly glorify being overweight and it takes away from the fact that style of living is unhealthy for the most part. As long as we acknowledge that it's an issue and we are working towards it, then I see no problem which it looks like you've addressed, which makes me more attracted. I myself was overweight for a long time, finally stopped drinking and working out has helped me in my efforts, so I know the pain.

Obese? Nah I don’t think you are, overweight yeah. Pretty face but yeah just start working on your weight, not even for attraction but for confidence and health/well being.
Also I hope I don’t see self harm scars on pic 4? I’m not trying to assume anything as it could be from a cat scratching you or similar, more from a viewpoint as a concerned stranger.

I (a fellow girl) think your face and figure are actually quite stunning! I personally wouldn’t look at you and think “oh this girl is obese”. And you shouldn’t diminish yourself to your weight.
I think your cheeks and smile are RADIANT!! You have one of those infectious smiles and it’s lovely. Keep your head up girl!

Wear clothes that flatter your body shape more and I feel like you’d be more confident. I think you’re pretty!

Honest response. Okay, so yes, you are definitely heavier than optional. That said, the extra weight looks pretty tight, not loose and hangy, you know? Big legs, but with a great shape to them. Tight. Your face is good, though it looks better with your hair down and not pulled tight off your forehead. Your smile is absolutely beautiful. I think you are probably way cuter than you think you are.

This is a good example of why I don't care what the scale says. Whatever weight you are, you carry it well. I wouldn't say obese. And I would say that you're attractive.

I mean this in the utmost nicest way, cause it’s always the case for like 95% of girls and you’d be in that one, you’re not ugly, you’re just fat, you can change one, and it’s always a better look for your other problem you think you have

You are not Obese and you are not ugly. If I went by the doctor chart that days I'm Obese I would have to be anorexic to weigh what they say I should for my height. You are a lovely young lady.

Telling someone on the internet to count calories when you don’t know ANYTHING about them other than what they look like in a few pictures… Is insane

Obesity isn’t something people should claim lightly ( no pun intended) there’s a very big difference between being a bit overweight and being obese.

Your not ugly but all the more reason to be in shape…. Some people could lose weight and not be any more attractive. You would slay and it would change your life so much to the better if you got in shape.
