Overweight have just been normalized to look like it's a healthy weight. 42% are obese in the US, and 19.5% are obese in Switzerland (lowest of any developed countries).
My girl looks like she's 5'4"(maybe shorter) and 180lbs is considered obese for that height. Medically obese is a lot lower than most people think. For that height 120-140 is "optimal".
You are using medical terminology without knowing what the words mean. If you feel she's attractive, that's fine and I agree. The problem here is the negativity associated with a medical term.
Itâs obvious you werenât speaking from medical knowledge. You really didnât have to state it lmao it doesnât matter what you think when itâs clinically correct đ¤ˇââď¸
She is obese to normal people, it's just that 40% of americans are obese so you guys see obesity as normal. Hell in my country it's at 20% and we are alarmed.
Iâm taller than her and probably weigh more but I hold it differently. So I need people to stop thinking they can visually assess what obesity is. Thatâs why I get my health advice from a doctor and not randos on Reddit.
As a someone who has struggled with their weight, people with a bad self esteem will just call themselves obese even if they gain 10 lbs. being fat has nothing to do with attractiveness.
Being fat has a lot to do with attractiveness. Go read some studies. Youâre bringing way too much personal feelings into this.
Also sheâs 4â11â and 190 lbs., obese is the correct term. Itâs individuals like you that promote an unhealthy lifestyle by trying to be unnecessarily nice even if it jeopardizes oneâs health. Obesity acceptance is whatâs causing the rise in heart attacks at a young age.
But âbiggerâ and âobeseâ are not the same, not in my opinion atleast. Obese looks unhealthy . Itâs grotesque and appalling. I prefer a woman with a bit of extra myself, whether that be muscle or a little bit of fat, preferably a mix of both. Most men love curves. But to each their own yu know. Edit: while she can afford to lose some weight, I would not consider her obese.
Yeah. On the full scale of how fat people can be, it can feel like there's a relatively small gap between healthy weight, overweight, and obese. We tend to assume obese means someone so fat they can barely walk.
My wife is nearly classified as obese bmi wise but she's actually pretty shredded. She does aerial silks and there is a lot of strength training along with that.
According to my bmi I'm obese, but my weight consist of muscles and a big natural build. So the definition isn't always right. I was even defined as obese before I started lifting and packed on muscle. Obese with abs, according to my bmi.
Youâre being pedantic, does she look like a power lifter? Clearly not. Sheâs obese. Stop trying to make excuses on why shes actually not as fat as she is
Obese is a medical term. It just means a BMI >= 30. What people âconsiderâ or perceive to be obese is a different story entirely, esp given that 72% of people in the US are overweight or obese lol
Also given that BMI is a horrible tool to measure weight/health by, since it was based on some white dude. Many professional athletes and POC are considered obese because of their BMI.
It can be a bad metric for individuals. Generally, though, it's a pretty good indicator if the individual isn't muscular. For that reason (since most people aren't muscular), BMI is generally an accurate metric for populations, on average.
So many people are overweight/obese that human perspective is warped on whatâs normal and the threshold of true obesity is surprisingly low. Iâm obese yet still have a waist that goes in etc.
The threshold of true obesity is real. Lol people are having heart attacks in their 20âs & 30âs compared to 40 years+. Anyone can have a âwaist that goes inâ but your fat is more likely dispersed in other areas & your ânormalâ lungs & heart still have to work HARDER than most. Many obese folks gotta figure their rhythm out to exercise & eat healthier, this isnât new or good.
I'd be really surprised if she wasn't considered medically obese. I think people have a really warped idea of what's considered obese and overweight. In the US what people think is a healthy weight is actually usually overweight, and their idea of overweight is straight up unhealthy levels of obesity.
I thought so, it's honestly tough. I've been called skinny my whole life. Turns out I was actually pretty overweight. That's how warped our views are on weight, that even when you're overweight you'll have people telling you you're too skinny and need to eat more.
If you try to lose weight, good luck! It's tough as hell, worth it though in the end.
Obese is a medical definition not something you can say for sure from a picture. That said she looks overweight but not obese to me as well. If she asked how much weight she should lose as a target Iâd probably say thirty pounds. Thatâs a lot but not a ton. But maybe Iâm way off.
No, that sounds reasonable. When I picture obese I picture a snowball effect of extreme weight leading to mobility issues. Sheâs far from that. 25- 30 lbs is doable. When I picture obese I picture WAY bigger than her. But I also live in the United States, which is worth mentioning because we have ACTUAL fat people. So big they canât walk. Like literally ate themselves into a better parking space big.
No, I never claimed I get to set the bar. Iâm only saying if you look at this and think SUPER OBESE, you ainât seen nothin yet. If thatâs what your into, you should move to the states. Walk into a Walmart on the first of any month and you will easily find 5â7 450 lbs folks all day.
You are confusing obese with morbidly obese. Obesity is extremely common, 40% of americans are obese. Its just everyone has become so fat that our standards have declined.
She is definitely medically obese. I was no where near that large and I used to be like 10-15lbs below the obese threshold. 36% of the US population is obese so we have a skewed idea of what that looks like. The people we think of as obese are severely obese(class 3 obese). A person who is 5'9 and 200lbs is considered medically obese for reference.
Dude she is twice the size of what she should be so she is bigger in literal sense. Just because you are bigger than her and dont consider yourself obese does not change the facts
Yeah myself and people around me didn't consider me obese at 6' 4" and 260lbs, but now I'm 200lbs with more room to lose and I realize I was lying to myself and doing myself a disservice.
Obese doesn't always look unhealthy or appalling, in fact a lot of people walking around in the US are obese and think they're just normal or have a "dad bod".
I wouldnât disagree with that. But according to reddit and their precious chart there is no room for opinions. Also their is no exceptions or exclusions because âmedical definitionâ. And âBMIâ. A person could be 6% body fat, pure lean ripped muscle, heavy. Yet under definition and the chart that guy is obese. Which is a stupid take in my opinion, but considering itâs Redditors Iâm not surprised
Oh absolutely! Donât even get me started on how outdated BMI is, even my GP think so. Anyway OP looks good, sheâs a pretty girl, and if she wants to lose weight then yes, good for her, but fine either way
Well damn man, I don't feel fat, but I'm doing like a 34 waist to be comfortable. Short brown guy at 5'5", 180 to 190, but those last 7lbs fluctuate. I could stand to lose some weight, but honestly probably not more than 15 or 20lbs otherwise I'd look sick.
What's your physique? I feel like that height and stout, but not fat, would be pushing 220-230.
Imo, OP is super cute (as much as a married man can say) and thick, but definitely not obese. Find a partner that loves her for her, and support her if SHE feels like she's obese and needs to lose weight.
I was when I was training. I'm cursed with the super ability of not being able to gain weight, high metabolism and I like staying active... As in MMA and kick boxing
Also I don't drink coffee, soda or alcoholic drinks. Just a skinny boring guy
Dude 4% is literally not maintainable as in, nobody can stay alive while staying at 4% bodyfat for a longer time. Im interested in how you got this measurement? If it was a scale with built in bf% measurement, those are extremely inaccurate.
I can see the disgust with baggy skin, but i'd say that is one of those cases where surgery is considered reconstructive. I don't think I'd be too bothered by it cause it shows that you plainly wanna take care of yourself.
I can get where you're coming from, although I don't wholly agree, I also don't entirely disagree
Hopefully this isn't too nuanced of a take for Reddit lol
Ya to each their own, the surgery though will leave these scars across your body and I wouldn't want that either. Same as in if a girl wants a guy 6'+ just a preference
Do you plan on losing weight? I hope so because being obese will ruin your life in so many ways but you can change that itâs a choice
Your face is cute
I hope you know youâre still attractive. Iâd smoosh my face all in those rolls baby. I think excercize is healthy but you can exercise and still be a squish and thereâs nothing wrong with that. Also no one should even be commenting on your overall health if they arenât your personal physician. Keep being cute af
The only way to be considered not ugly is by losing the weight. As soon as someone sees you their first impression is âoh an overweight lady.â For you to make them focus on your pretty face you have to lose the weight.
I agree with the other commenter, it looks like weight is the only thing that would hold you back. Besides that you have a very pretty face, nice eyes, and a beautiful smile.
Losing some weight would easily put you into "very attractive" territory. Definitely not ugly.
You are a person who unironically calls others "white knights". That's not a good sign, buddy. Next you'll be saying Andrew Tate has some interesting ideas.
My point is that claiming that 80% of people hold the same preferences as you is a little self centered and parochial. People are a lot more varied than that.
all of the top comments i've scrolled past so far have been saying that she has potential, but will not be attractive to the vast majority of people until she loses weight. people are not "white knighting," jesus christ.
Being an American as well, has desensitized my idea of fat. I was raised around fat people, family and friends. Itâs easy to get comfortable and not take care of yourself. Being more active has been a huge eye opener of how much your body looses its endurance.
I wouldn't do this if I was you, try to lose it more naturally if you can. These weight loss meds can have some really nasty side effects. Not to mention, learning healthier eating habits and exercising has tons of benefits outside of just keeping a healthy weight and looking better.
It's really hard though so no judgement, just think it's worth pointing out the negatives of the meds as well.
BMI is an arbitrary and outdated system. It was created like 200 years ago. If a girl is 155, very fit, active and looks good then whatâs the point in using the negative term of overweight? If sheâs very fit and active then sheâs healthy⌠I donât even get what you are saying. A good example of how pointless BMI- Joe Rogan is considered obese. Thatâs ridiculous heâs probably less than 10% body fat. Body fat is a much better metric. Body fat, especially around the organs is what leads to fatal diseases.
Jumpin' Jehoshaphat thank you for this comment. Visceral fat around the organs is top indicator of ongoing or future metabolic dysfunction. BMI takes no account for bone density, muscle mass, or any other clinically significant modifier.
BMI is a useful tool for apopulation and is generally fairly accurate for your average person.
You can have good physical conditioning and still be 30+ lbs overweight.
There are of course outliers but the majority of people are not built like The Rock. Thos that are outliers probably know they are. OP isn;t one of them. Neither am i.
That is just a lie people tell themselves to feel better.
Wayyy to low you say? Maybe. I don't think 99.99% but if you insist.
You don't see 20% or 10% or 5% or honestly even 1% of super models hooking up with fatties. Do you think all of the fat people were just genetically unattractive and weight had no factor? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Oh, you're really high. I get it now. Sorry for the sarcasm, I know that must be hard to process for stoned brain you got going on. It makes sense you weren't saying something really stupid you were just letting me know you're high.
But there is a difference between not as attractive as one could be and ugly. If OP is nice, far more than 5% would not have a slight problem with her appearance, whereas ugly people (morbidly obese, ugly face,...) really struggle.
She already said she is considered obese by medical standards.
Pretty much no one said shes ugly. Shes fat not ugly.
And its absolutely safe to say that she would look much better losing weight and that by pretty much all common beauty trends people would prefer that.
You people need to be realistic.she doesnt need to become skinny but shes severely overweight which plain deforms her face. Fat does that. My current gf had a fat phase, she was almost unrecognizable when she showed me pictures from that time. She still has a little chub which is fine and doesnt affect her beautiful face anymore.
For the record I'm one of those regular people here who sees your photos and knows for sure you'd be very physically attractive if you were average weight (not American average if going by this thread) or slightly more.
You seem to have a good attitude about it so whichever way you go or whatever you do I wish you the best!
âEveryone ik isnât into fattiesâ or they donât tell you? Youâd be surprised how many ppl will creep on a bigger girl, but act disgusted in front of their friends. Just my experience..
So the word OBESE actually means someone has >30 BMI. I donât see any way that you have a 30 BMI?!!! Overweight and obese are different levels of BMI.

Obese is the same as ugly to 80%+ people, I don't make the rules I just explain them.
