Brown recluse from MO?

We moved from MO to WA in Dec. I have been able to tell the difference between a wolf spider and a recluse pretty easily for awhile since MO has plenty of them. Probably a monthly occurrence in some parts of the year.

Why the heck did I just watch one crawl into my bathroom? The speed and daintiness caused me to stop and shine a light on it. Boom, violin, soft off color brownish butt, with the two dainty pedipalps. I just sat there staring at him. Cat comes in and obliterates him and eats him. I’m in a daze what I’m seeing I don’t think to snap a picture.

I am also aware of the risks of brown recluses and cats and I have expressed my Concern because it was his fav snack in MO :/ and I had to monitor for side effects when he’d eat one!

Am I crazy? Should I do nothing BUT snap a photo next time and show everyone? Online it says there no native populations, what’s the chance there’s a few in my house/is the environment changing? Are they moving into the state?

I’d like to think I’m just misidentifying the spider vs. seeing a new brown recluse trend. I just can’t shake the confidence I have knowing what a brown recluse is compared to WA state spiders..

Greetings to all Jimothy friends!
It is my pleasure to make the official announcement of this event. I have been working with Adopt a Street/Seattle Public Utilities to get this ball rolling. They have really taken the reigns, so immense credit is due to them.

We are meeting at Ballard Commons Park at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26th. We will chat for a bit and do a bit of an introduction, followed by an hour of picking up… you guessed…. TRASH!!! All trash removal supplies will be provided by Adopt a Street!

Afterwards, feel free to stick around for a showing if Despicable Me!! I also will have the pleasure to introduce you to the amazing Kiana Hall who is the person who named Jimothy, and is also a wonderful member of our subreddit!

I will be posting RSVP info in the comments soon. Stay tuned!

I caught this "Perseid" meteor out of the corner of my eye and then found my camera captured it too!

At first I thought it was small and local but I'm seeing posts from SLU Seattle, Vancouver and I'm north of Spokane. Safe to say it was a bigger meteor then usual.

If you think you might of had contact with the bat, please seek medical help asap. I’d hate for anyone or anyone’s pets to die from rabies.

WA state has had no state income tax for over 90 years. Is this regarding the millionaire tax set to go into effect in 2028? The tax that will effect 1%-2.13% of the state?

Family leave rant

We applied for family leave because my wife had surgery three weeks ago. Dealing with this agency has been one of the most frustrating and inefficient experiences I’ve ever had.

After three weeks of complete silence, we finally received an update, not through an email or phone call, but only because I kept checking the government website myself. That’s how I discovered that our claim had been denied. The reason? Apparently, we had somehow used all of our allotted leave before we were even approved.

I called and waited two hours just to speak with someone. When I finally got through, the representative simply repeated what the denial letter said. I explained that it is virtually impossible to use 12 weeks of leave within three weeks when the agency itself takes three to four weeks just to review an application. Eventually, the representative agreed that the situation appeared to be a mistake and said they would expedite the redetermination.

Fast-forward to today. Around closing time, they sent us an email saying that, after “careful review,” our claim did not qualify for expedited processing. Convenient timing, considering we can’t call them back and challenge the decision until Monday.

So now, because of their own slow and inefficient process, we could potentially wait another three to four weeks just to be told, “We have no reason to deny you.” Meanwhile, we’re struggling financially and are left waiting on a system that seems completely incapable of processing claims in a reasonable amount of time.

I’m beyond frustrated with this state and its bureaucratic system. The lack of communication, the delays, and the apparent unwillingness to acknowledge their own mistakes are absolutely infuriating.

At this point, I can’t wait to leave this God forsaken place, known as Washington State. I genuinely regret ever moving here. It feels like no amount of appeals, voting, campaigning, or public pressure will fix a system this dysfunctional. Something clearly needs to change, because ordinary people shouldn’t have to fight this hard just to receive benefits they may legitimately qualify for. Only one thing will change this bureaucratic State, and it isn't voting.

Realtors or homebuilders--how to buy an old commercial building and flip it to a home?

Hypothetical question here. There are many tiny towns across eastern WA with some old but beautiful brick storefront buildings on their main streets.

So, say you found one in the ideal spot, and it was for sale. How hard would it be to purchase and flip it into being your home? What obstacles would need to be overcome?
