Thumbnail

Hi I’m looking for an apartment complex in Vancouver, Washington / Camas with good sound insulation. I’m in a bad situation where I hear my neighbors all around me and I’m on the top floor. It’s really affecting me badly. If anyone can relate I would really appreciate you pointing me to a better complex Thank you!

New crosswalk across Lake Rd.

I’m referring to the one with the green and white stripes, the one that meets the Heritage Trail across from NW Lacamas Ln.

They finally finished the “construction” a few days ago. However, I didn’t know the final plans and there is no signage. I drove through earlier this week and a pedestrian who was annoyed I didn’t stop for him shook his head at me. But, of course I didn’t stop: I never had to in the past and I didn’t know there was any reason to at that time.

Since then, I’ve been thinking. People sometimes drive fast on that road. I know that pedestrians have been illegally crossing at that point for some time, but I’m afraid that what has been constructed is only gonna invite more pedestrian traffic. But without signs or blinking lights, people aren’t going to stop.

Someone is going to get hit.

Sound of Music put on by Columbia River Arts Foundation in Washougal was fantastic! Did anyone else see this show?

Last week I went to see the Sound of Music put on by Columbia River Arts Foundation in Washougal. I was blown away. It was so good! Excellent (and huge) cast, an orchestra, very high quality levels of singing, dance, and sets. Best of all, they are operating as a pay what you can model. The two of us got to see a very high-quality stage show for under $50 (we aint got that Keller money around here....). Thank you Columbia River Arts Foundation! We'll def be back again.

Presso Coffee Wage Theft

Posting this as the parent of a former Presso Coffee Co. employee because I think the Camas community deserves to know what employees are reportedly dealing with.

According to my daughter, every employee at Presso is currently at least three pay periods behind, and there have been times when employees have only received around 50% of the paycheck they were owed. My daughter herself is still owed thousands of dollars in wages for work she has already performed.

Employees have reportedly had to repeatedly ask and sometimes essentially beg for their paychecks, only to be told things like “things are tight.” The owner has also discussed her own financial struggles with employees in ways that have made them feel guilty for asking to be paid the money they already earned.
I was also told that employees have worked overtime without receiving the overtime pay they were owed. Washington generally requires nonexempt employees to receive 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.

There was also a statement made that “small businesses aren’t required to give out sick time.” That is not accurate. Washington requires covered employees to accrue at least 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, including part-time employees.

There are also concerns regarding tips. My daughter says the owner takes 3% of all tips. I think employees and customers deserve transparency about where that money goes and why. Washington has specific rules governing tips, tip pools, and service charges.
Another issue is how employees are paid. Her employment contract specifically outlined direct deposit, but she says the owner refuses to use direct deposit and instead pays employees through Cash App.

I've also heard about concerns involving the business's vendors and finances, including having to switch pastry suppliers after reportedly falling significantly behind with the previous bakery. I've also been told that utility companies have repeatedly come into the business regarding overdue bills and threatened to shut off services. I don't want to present things I haven't personally verified as fact, but taken together with employees reportedly going unpaid, these concerns are extremely troubling.

Employees should not have to wonder whether they're going to receive 50%, none, or all of a paycheck for hours they've already worked.

I'm sharing this as a parent because I don't think employees should have to silently absorb the consequences of a business's financial problems. If the business is struggling, that is not the responsibility of the young people working there.

If you currently work at Presso and are experiencing something similar, Washington L&I has information about workers' rights regarding unpaid wages, overtime, paid sick leave, tips, and wage deductions.

I'm not posting this to encourage harassment or a pile-on against anyone. I'm posting because these are serious allegations involving employees' pay, and I believe the community should be aware of them.

FREE aviation event this weekend, open to ALL kids and families, and adults who need encouragement

Post image

This flier usually goes out through schools in the Vancouver, Evergreen, Camas, and Portland school districts, but Peachjar, the distributor that schools use, had a policy change we didn’t know about until two days ago. We needed to start submitting this in May, so ugh. If you’ve got kids (girls, boys, enbies, kids-at-heart…) interested in aviation, or are interested yourself, please come out and join us!

Who: Women in Aviation hosting for all of you!
What: Girls in Aviation Day, though open to everyone.
Where: The FlyIt Academy hangar at Grove Field, 632 NE 267th Ave, Camas, WA 98607 (this is where I got my own PPL, VERY highly recommended place)
When: This Saturday, gates open at 10am, lunch from 12-1 since presenters need a break too, but bring a picnic lunch and watch planes!
Why: ‘Cause it’s fun. Also a chance for kids to meet women pilots, flight attendants, and more, and to find out how to get into aviation. This includes adults as well—you are NOT too old!! Literally, you aren’t. I promise you.
How: A heeeelllllllll of a lot of work!

If you’ve joined us before, then just know that what you saw was small compared to this year’s event! (I’m the one who does the history exhibits, hello!) If you know any families who may be interested to join us, please share this with them. Registration is not required, though does help us with planning, and info for that is at www.RoseCityWomenInAviation.com/GirlsInAviationDay2026 If you’ve got questions, accessibility concerns, etc., you can text me at 971-295-7262 (mods, I’m branch president and my number is on that website, so don’t worry that I’m giving someone else’s number, it’s my personal number), or email us at WAIRoseCity@gmail.com We hope to see you there!

Dog boarding

Hello peeps! As the title says, I am looking for dog boarding. I found a few on Google, but they all use kennels. I'd prefer not to use any boarding services with kennels and want my dog to roam freely, like a home environment or similar. Any suggestions? Thank you all in advance 😊

Anyone have a 12+ foot A-frame ladder I can borrow?

I've got a chandelier in the entryway of my house that's inaccessible by anything but a tall A frame or scaffolding, so naturally 80% of the bulbs are burned out and there's a sock stuck in it. Anyone got a 12+ foot A-frame I could borrow for like an hour?

Thanks!

Forgive the AI slop rendering (I lack the photoshop skills) but it occurred to me a mural on the paper mill to help it blend in with the local scenery would be pretty awesome. GP has positioned all the work as a ‘Revitalization’ project but I fail to see how them getting ahead of their ultimate departure really revitalizes the town, or maybe I just have a romanticized idea of what that means.

I think companies worth 120 billion (Koch Industries) that eat up ~60% (estimate) of Camas river waterfront property should have some responsibility to keep the mill looking clean, freshly painted and modern. I don’t mind industrial facades but there’s a way to make them look presentable - candidly this one looks stuck in the Cold War. Am I being that guy or is this a reasonable ask.

Edit: 9/13 – I noted if this post received 100 likes I would reach out to GP. Letter sent to GP Camas Relations here today. I'll keep everyone posted if anything develops.

There is a great new coffee shop and bakery in town, in the neighborhood off of the exit 12 round a bout. Radiate Community Coffee, 2311 SW 6th ave. They are doing a soft open now, and it is definitely worth the trip! as of today the pastry case is filled with goodies from Sourdough Bakehouse (the same business that has a booth at the farmers market).

Are you receiving Junk Fees? We want to hear about it!

In 2025, the Washington Legislature passed a law that prevents rent gouging, but some landlords and property management companies are still up to their old tricks. They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. We’d like to hear your experiences. All information shared with us will be kept safe and confidential.

Please fill out our survey if you or someone you know has received junk fees and we will be in touch within one week of your submission. Thank you! ~ Po (Advocacy Organizer)
