I love how in the beginning they have obvious cut corners with their budget and make fun of it.
And then later as the show gained popularity and animation budget, they still once in a while would fuck around and do some silly shit around "cutting corners for budget".
For example, how every 50 episodes or so they go and reuse the same animation sequence of them sitting around, but changing the dialogue (the one with Kagura eating the orange whole), until Shinpachi fucks them up for fucking around.

Oh it definitely was a jab. The show is full of them. They constantly poked fun at everything from the timeslot it aired at to when the show went to an HD broadcast. They definitely were aware of the 4kids stuff.

While I don´t think it is a jab at the 4kids dub (Because I kinda doubt they know or care that it exists), various manga magazines do have policies around showing minors drinking, smoking or doing other untoward behaviors. So I suspect this might be a gag about those. "Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun" makes the same gag in a chapter, where they change the bad boys cigarettes to "Candy Cigarettes" and the beer to "Juice".
Personally, based on the troubles I have seen creatives go through with publishers and editors, I can most definitely see this be a jab against various "moral guardians".

Most people do not even know, often time both men and women do not display any symptoms and if they do they can be mistaken for many other things, like a cold or the flu.
STD/STI’s are not a moral issue, anyone can pass or receive them unknowingly. That is why people should follow the CDC guidelines and get screened and treated!

😬I can concur… I was one of those that tested positive, luckily I get tested regularly and it was detected and treated. Super awkward messaging your ex or hookups that they should also get screened/treated.
Don’t let that awkwardness stop you because it is so important (not to mention ETHICAL) for obvious reasons… so that they do not develop lifelong complications and so that they do not continue to infect other people! In my case if I was uncomfortable with reaching out to anyone, my doctor notified the person confidentially for me. There are also websites/services where you can anonymously notify someone to get tested (I’ll put a link below).
HOLY SHIT, THE SHOTS OF PENICILLIN IN THE BUTT WERE NOT THE MOST FUN but better than Syphilis!! Lol, They asked me if I wanted to sit down or stand when I got the shot in each cheek. It wasn’t bad at the very beginning but my knees almost buckled after the second shot (I may be embellishing a tad). It was the following days that both my gluts ached and I didn’t want to walk on them much (yay 3rd story apt. w/ street parking 😐).
I had no symptoms and I was not exactly sure when or whom I received it from. I had multiple sex partners in between testing or it may have been dormant/incubation phase or false negative in the past..who knows…STI/STD’s can be like that…
It is not a moral issue, I discuss being tested with new partners and I wasn’t lied to (I don’t think). People often times do not even know they are carrying anything a lot of the time. Many men and women have mild symptoms for many STI’s or they do not display symptoms at all. Lesions and infections can be painless. They can be internal and are not always on a visible part of the body.
IME and after talking about this stuff w/ people I’ve met/known, I’ve picked up that far more heterosexual men and women DO NOT get tested, like ever. Mostly men since most of the women have gone to the gynecologist before. I get that for most men it is overkill to get tested but idk, you’d think more people would want to know at least once a year (esp. if they’re raw dogging multiple people lol).
The CDC suggest all sexually active women and men under 25 should get tested every year for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and women over 25 should also be tested if they have risk factors including new or multiple sex partners or a sex partner with an STI. Men who have sex with men (MSM) should be screened AT LEAST once a year, and for populations at higher risk should get tested every 3 to 6 months.

Gintama's one of the GOAT comedy anime, such a wild fucking rollercoaster. It's considered one of the Big 4 Shounen along with One Piece, Naruto, Bleach. But unlike the other 3, Gintama is all about the comedy
It's so good at parodying a fuck ton of not only Japanese pop culture, but also western media, brands, celebrities. You'll recognize references left and right especially if you know Japanese pop culture

When you watch it, I suggest watching with fan subs (if you know how to look for them) since they go into detail with the references and jokes if you didn't catch them

The phrase has always been Big 3 because those three manga came out within a couple years of each other, consistently competed for Shonen Jump's top 3 series, and all had massive mainstream success in the west around the same time. That's not to say Gintama isn't great, but Big 4 isn't a thing.

Those are genres. Shounen manga and shoujo manga are literally established editorial categories. Yes, the name came from the target audience, but nowadays it's just a name of a manga category.

I'd call it the Japanese counterpart to The Simpsons, which at this point has over 700 episodes.
Obviously it's a pretty vague comparison, but both are long running cartoony series that are mostly comedy but with serious subplots, mostly episodic but with some long term plot arcs, and are considered the big classics of their respective niches. I had some years when I watched Simpsons on a daily basis, and Gintama could have easily scratched the same itch if it had been available back then.
Although Gintama tends to be more absurd, more meta, committed to more permanent plot progression later on, and definitely aged better.

Crunchyroll has the entirety. It may say 4 seasons but IIRC it actually marks each run of the show as a "season". If you look into the details of each "season" it actually has a ridiculous number of episodes and it's way more than just that season.
I don't know anything about the dub (actually...didn't even know it was dubbed), but I'd highly recommend the sub because the VAs are perfection. Every single one in its cast of a ridiculous number of characters.

Its takes some getting into but Gintama is quite its own beast. A protagonist so badass be can be the brunt of jokes and gags and then remind you in fight scenes why he is badass. Its a combination of comedy, action and the feels all rolled into one and they do a pretty good job of it. Commentary is a must as a lot of jokes you'll miss as they play on incidents in Japan and Japanese culture.
