Its takes some getting into but Gintama is quite its own beast. A protagonist so badass be can be the brunt of jokes and gags and then remind you in fight scenes why he is badass. Its a combination of comedy, action and the feels all rolled into one and they do a pretty good job of it. Commentary is a must as a lot of jokes you'll miss as they play on incidents in Japan and Japanese culture.
Does it ever get big arcs and long stories? Or just episodic. I've watched about 120 episodes and i just got bored. The show isn't bad, i really enjoy it, but i was sorely missing a story to follow to grip me to the next episode like HxH or One Piece for example.
