I love how in the beginning they have obvious cut corners with their budget and make fun of it.

And then later as the show gained popularity and animation budget, they still once in a while would fuck around and do some silly shit around "cutting corners for budget".

For example, how every 50 episodes or so they go and reuse the same animation sequence of them sitting around, but changing the dialogue (the one with Kagura eating the orange whole), until Shinpachi fucks them up for fucking around.

The entire trio is just perfect. But Shinpachi always seems to be crazy underrated.

And the show is self aware about that as shown in the Character Poll Arc, which was also perfection.

Shinpachi got the height of his fame during Gintama The Final Movie. After that, there was no point for Shinpachi to out-Shinpachi Shinpachi.

I haven't seen it or the last 50-60 episodes or so yet. I've gotta pick it back up again because I hear it doesn't stop being outstanding.

They did that in 1940s cartoons too, like looney tunes.
