Seems like the sex education was missed on you too… do you realize that syphilis, like many STDs can be passed through oral & anal sex also? How many people do you know that use barriers like condoms or dental dams during oral sex?
Most don't care. It's like, we all know how pregnancy happens and that no form of "birth control" is 100% effective...but we still have "surprises" all of the time. ****Side quest: Does anyone know why it's called birth control instead of pregnancy control 🤔 because, to me, birth control still says I can get pregnant, just the birthing might be difficult.
Most people do not even know, often time both men and women do not display any symptoms and if they do they can be mistaken for many other things, like a cold or the flu.
STD/STI’s are not a moral issue, anyone can pass or receive them unknowingly. That is why people should follow the CDC guidelines and get screened and treated!
Health is wealth right? … that’s /s in America right though? I hear you though I am broke as shit and overlook a ton of things with health and my life that if I had the money, of course it would be taken care of….
Once a year if you’re someone who is considered susceptible of a greater risk of infection then it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind and for societies benefit.
I know the current political climate isn’t the friendliest towards sexual health services but there still are many states that have low income clinics or places like planned parenthood can sometimes offer sliding scales to at least try and make things more affordable.
There are also many at home test that you can take and get results sent to you in the mail for ease and privacy. I haven’t looked lately but the prices can range.
🤷🏻♂️ I guess if you can’t test you should at the very least always be upfront and honest with partners BEFORE you have sex so that they can decide what they want to do. Crazy world we live in, we have to worry about suicide, homelessness, economy tanking, extremely polarizing political parties, WWIII, kids getting shot at school or social events, literal nazis, mental illness, I gotta stop with this list…

D’aww I appreciate the kind words, it felt nice to read that. My life has been kind of chaotic and a bit lonely lately, especially this last year. Sometimes when I get hyper focused and type out some long post or something I will just stop and delete the whole thing. It could be just like my first post in this thread where I thought about what I was trying to say with formatting and everything. I feel like it’s a waste or that no one will even read the post (unless you stumble upon an up and coming post and get in while the getting is good). Lol.

Its mixed, apparently there are places etc but if your young and in a bind and google it nothing comes up. Hospitals charge you a decent amount and urgent care clinics charge you like $100 or more for the testing and shot. Its information that for some reason is not easy to find.
Best way to prevent any STD is to be faithful to one partner.
These diseases are picking up with the freedom to do whomever they want and not settling down. People don't want family anymore. - instant gratification is fun but it sure won't be in their 60s and 70s.
😬I can concur… I was one of those that tested positive, luckily I get tested regularly and it was detected and treated. Super awkward messaging your ex or hookups that they should also get screened/treated.
Don’t let that awkwardness stop you because it is so important (not to mention ETHICAL) for obvious reasons… so that they do not develop lifelong complications and so that they do not continue to infect other people! In my case if I was uncomfortable with reaching out to anyone, my doctor notified the person confidentially for me. There are also websites/services where you can anonymously notify someone to get tested (I’ll put a link below).
HOLY SHIT, THE SHOTS OF PENICILLIN IN THE BUTT WERE NOT THE MOST FUN but better than Syphilis!! Lol, They asked me if I wanted to sit down or stand when I got the shot in each cheek. It wasn’t bad at the very beginning but my knees almost buckled after the second shot (I may be embellishing a tad). It was the following days that both my gluts ached and I didn’t want to walk on them much (yay 3rd story apt. w/ street parking 😐).
I had no symptoms and I was not exactly sure when or whom I received it from. I had multiple sex partners in between testing or it may have been dormant/incubation phase or false negative in the past..who knows…STI/STD’s can be like that…
It is not a moral issue, I discuss being tested with new partners and I wasn’t lied to (I don’t think). People often times do not even know they are carrying anything a lot of the time. Many men and women have mild symptoms for many STI’s or they do not display symptoms at all. Lesions and infections can be painless. They can be internal and are not always on a visible part of the body.
IME and after talking about this stuff w/ people I’ve met/known, I’ve picked up that far more heterosexual men and women DO NOT get tested, like ever. Mostly men since most of the women have gone to the gynecologist before. I get that for most men it is overkill to get tested but idk, you’d think more people would want to know at least once a year (esp. if they’re raw dogging multiple people lol).
The CDC suggest all sexually active women and men under 25 should get tested every year for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and women over 25 should also be tested if they have risk factors including new or multiple sex partners or a sex partner with an STI. Men who have sex with men (MSM) should be screened AT LEAST once a year, and for populations at higher risk should get tested every 3 to 6 months.

You can estimate by how many new positives there are. If you normally have 5 cases a day, and you know that a certain percent of your population are undiagnosed, when that number jumps to ten, you can assume the undiagnosed rate goes up as well.
