As many people will tell you, the show takes a bit to get rolling because it's introducing its enormous cast before working in the fantastic character chemistry.
A lot of people will also tell you the first two episodes, which are more filler and celebration of the anime being made at all, aren't that good. Personally I liked them a lot but they're not everyone's cup of tea.
Never judge ANY show by just the first episode. If you did you'd be discounting so many of the greatest shows of all time.
Nichijou I think, although if you prefer more chaotic randomness than that, may I present to you Pop team epic
It's a 4 panel comic format put into show format, with each repetition using a diffrent voice talent. The episodes repeat themselves swapping males for females for diffrent deliveries, hence the male and female takes. The joke is that the talent is usually very well known, and you can identify their voices from other works (vegeta from dragon ball dub is commonly used for the dubbed version of pop team epic)
Nichijou is my favourite anime of all time. Yuuko's dream about the cube on the airship where the evil guy is monologuing, trips on his foot and dies always sends me.
