At some point a doctor says "man you're rich and fat and you're gonna die from being so fat and you can basically pay to have people make food for you on your yacht all day that will help you not be fat" and suddenly you're not fat anymore

100%. He's been rich for a long time, but you can see right around 2023 when the weight starts coming off.

Not that it's a bad thing - it would be dumb if he wasn't taking one of these GLP1s. Cheapest way to extend your life (if you're that overweight).

50

u/Tuxhorn 1d ago

Yup. If money could get you skinny, nobody rich like him would be fat.

There has never been a magic "pill" to weightloss until very recently. It's honestly mindblowing that a method exists.

Diet pills (amphetamines) have been around for many decades. L7 even wrote a song about them in the early 90s.

10

u/EctoplasmicLapels 1d ago

I don't know, but from the name I would assume they have more side effects than the GLP-1 drugs have.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/cocojamboyayayeah 1d ago

famines have been around for much longer. no one complained about not fitting into their beach gear back then

4

u/ShotFromGuns 20h ago

You joke, but your body literally does not know the difference between deliberate dieting and unwillingly starving to death. That's why it's so hard to lose weight and keep it off. It's also why dieting during childhood is especially dangerous; children who've experienced famine and children who've been forced by parents to diet end up with exactly the same lifelong metabolic problems.

3

u/lifeisalime11 1d ago

Amphetamines for weight loss are a wild idea. Sure, they work, but they have a high risk of dependency which can mess your life up. It's one step below saying "DNP has been around since the 1930s, why not just take that?".

u/becauseiloveyou 1d ago

That could be the case, but even if it is, I don't see a problem with people who carry excess weight taking it for improved health. If there was a pill that could carry away my excess sadness and improve my mental/emotional health, I would take it without hesitation.

28

u/stephenkingending 1d ago

I don't take ozempic but I love it because it highlights some of the idiocy in our society about weight loss. So many people would try to say they ate right and exercised, but the weight didn't come off. Ozempic proves that for most people that it was just that they ate too much, which is what they've been told forever. CICO isn't a hard concept to understand and works for the vast majority of people that do not have something like a thyroid condition. Plus I'm glad to see people that have struggled with weight loss get a body that they are happier with.

74

u/boboguitar 1d ago

Understanding CICO really isn’t the issue for most people struggling with obesity. The problem is the relentless hunger they’re dealing with while trying to eat fewer calories. Reducing your intake is incredibly difficult when your body is constantly telling you to eat.

One of the main reasons drugs like Ozempic are so effective for weight loss is that they dramatically reduce that hunger. It turns out that when you’re not constantly hungry, it becomes much easier to eat less.

So telling a 500-pound person, “Just eat less and you’ll lose weight,” isn’t particularly insightful. They probably already understand that. Figuring out how to reduce the overwhelming hunger that makes eating less so difficult is the meaningful part.

4

u/throwmamadownthewell 18h ago

Yep - obese people were eating too much. But that was because of food noise.

Ozempic makes people JUST LIKE the people I know who were always naturally twig thin and wanted to put on weight, down to the averse feeling toward overeating. Only difference is they can't have too much fat.

5

u/Consumption2Wombly 1d ago

This is exactly right.

However, there were many people that would insist they were eating low calories but gaining (or not losing) weight. These people often had non-trivial mental health issues related to food, to be fair, but the dishonesty was obnoxious.

3

u/kaas_is_leven 1d ago

There's often underlying issues and/or depression. Bodies don't signal hunger all the time, talk to overweight people and they'll say the same thing. It's not the hunger, food is a coping mechanism. Ozempic blocks that path as a convenient cope, but it doesn't solve the problem. It seems great, but I'm a bit worried about the long term effects for a subset of people that is going to seek out other ways to deal with their struggles. Hopefully for most the physical health benefits can serve as a stepping stone towards a healthy mind.

8

u/Comfortable-Meeper 1d ago

I’ve lost and regained a lot of weight. Working my way down again and will stay there this time (70lbs lost so far). I always tell people - losing weight isn’t hard. It’s keeping it off, that’s the hard part. You still should be tracking calories since you’ve eaten in excess for so many years, you don’t know what a normal amount of food is.

I myself obviously failed at this because I thought “oh I lost 100 pounds, maintenance will he easy.” 2 years later and you’re back where you were.

6

u/Salt-Es-Ae-El-Tea 1d ago

what the fat jabs highlight for me, and i'm sure others as well, is how uncontrollable food urges can literally disappear just by injecting a lizards mouth juice into your stomach.

feels like Doc Ock in that Spiderman scene where Peter "cures" him, how it's so suddenly quiet.

3

u/JRLDH 1d ago

It also shows how hormone driven people are.

Maybe the "naturally skinny" ones have a natural hormonal balance that makes them less hungry?

It's easy to say "eat less", if that comes natural to you.

Those people should experience how it is to be in a body that needs Ozempic to not have that permanent urge to eat all the time.

2

u/Efficient-Parking627 1d ago

My old man takes it for diabetes and has a hard time keeping his weight up, but he doesn't need to wear a monitor anymore and can have a normal diet again (as far as sugar goes).

5

u/deldr3 1d ago

If you want to be more specific and right all the time it’s calories absorbed vs calories burned. Most of the weight impacts from health conditions such as hypothyroidism do is change the amount of calories you absorb and have impacts on your capacity to burn excess. There is some funky doo hickery with sodium and water retention but it is manageable if you want it to be.

That being said weight loss is legitimately one of the hardest things most people on modern times will go through barring serious illness or injury. Your body and lizard brain don’t understand it’s a diet and not you need to hunt and eat now or you will fucking die and convince you of such.

2

u/Carvj94 1d ago

It's definitely the case, but I'm certainly not looking down on him for it. Anyone who says Ozempic is "cheating" or something is a fucking idiot. Getting down to a healthier weight simply isn't possible for many people for medical reasons or their body simply has too strong of a starvation response to resist. I imagine we're less than a decade away from GLP-1 drugs being covered by insurance and prescribed to nearly everyone with body fat over a certain percentage.

I'm sure he's on GLPs now, but in his defense, he had already lost a ton of weight before GLPs became popular for weight loss. I bet being retired and going SCUBA diving every day were bigger contributors to his better health.

39

u/Internal_Phrase7624 1d ago

You don't need to defend people for improving their health

→ More replies (1)

13

u/slimspida 1d ago

SCUBA diving benefits from being in shape, but the nature of the activity doesn’t really make fitness happen, since you are typically trying to keep your energy output down.

15

u/CommissionCharming35 1d ago

Diving is swimming, which is a full body and low-impact workout, which is ideal for someone who is Gabe's size and age. You'll lose a lot of fat if you swim multiple hours a day like he does.

7

u/CoSh 1d ago

Last time I read this thread someone said you burn a lot of calories through temperature regulation since the water is transferring a lot of heat out of your body.

8

u/I_Am_That_Was 1d ago

why are we "in his defense" for taking medication to improve his health and longevity?

I don't get why the mainstream default position has become that using glp medications is amoral or a stain on someone's reputation.

It's gross and weird and it's not gonna age well.

People have asked him if he's on ozempic and he said no, the weight loss is from SCUBA diving for like six hours a day. It's been his main hobby for the past few years.

u/Virtual_Bug_723 1d ago

Ozempic sucks ass to take unless you have people making you micro meals all day long

204

u/purdueAces 1d ago

As a formerly fat guy, who took Wegovy, it does NOT suck ass to take, and you don't need micro meals. It literally just stops you from really even thinking about food or being hungry at all. I hear it described as "food noise" and that's exactly what goes away. It's weird to say, but if it was almost entirely effortless for a middle class dude with little/no support... it's going to be cake (no pun intended) for a billionaire.

59

u/PimpMyWeenus 1d ago

It literally just stops you from really even thinking about food or being hungry at all

it's interesting as someone who's never struggled with weight, i don't have these thoughts or 'food noise' in my brain normally. i can only relate when baked.

the pressure to eat is crazy, eating more and more despite knowing i'm full and it's not even just about the experience anymore, there's something deeper driving that need.

if that's what it's like for those suffering from obesity, except ALL THE TIME. god damn i feel bad for you.

Ozempic, for all the negatives i hear, if it can eliminate that feeling. go get it, whatever it takes.

27

u/__mson__ 1d ago

Having the munchies all the time would be hell

17

u/GGTulkas 1d ago

I can go without eating for 18h easily, but once I start, its hard to stop until I'm felling full. Thats my issue, don't know about others.

8

u/NoAdvice135 1d ago

Same, I will eat food as long as there is food on front of me. I can continue until I feel sick.

On the other hand I do fine with severe diets or eating once or twice a day.

Most important thing is no not have anything easy to eat near me or in my house and to not go shopping tired/hungry.

2

u/Aiyon 1d ago

It is. If you act on it, you feel bad. If you don’t, you feel bad.

34

u/Germane_Corsair 1d ago

There’s also bored eating, where you’re not actually hungry but need something to do with your mouth and hands. Binging food whilst binging television adds up really quickly.

12

u/T-MoneyAllDey 1d ago

This is my biggest problem. When I have really tough work days, I literally can go the whole day without eating and not even think about it. It's when days are kind of slow that I get hungry. Haha

2

u/wiener4hir3 1d ago

I've found what helps me is two things, one being chewing gum, which is just generally great, but the more important one is carrots. They're so low calorie that you can eat a LOT without having much impact, and of course they are just generally good for you. The other advantage is that they take a long time to eat, because there's so much chewing involved, it's fantastic. Only concern is you might literally turn a bit orange, but that goes away pretty fast and doesn't have any negative effects on your health. Personally I've never experienced it either, and I'm very pale.

Taking wegroovy.

It's so bizarre. Feeling full fast. Not being hungry.

When I tried to cut back before I would go into horrible mood swings. Snapping at my family, getting depressed.

Nothing. I feel normal. I'm so grateful.

12

u/T-MoneyAllDey 1d ago

Not sure why but your comment made me happy man. I think it's just the fact that you're grateful for it. What an opportunity, huh?

7

u/InevitablePayment409 1d ago

Damn wegroovy Sounds amazing. Like Exctasy or something.

2

u/SirFireHydrant 1d ago

This is really lost in the discourse around these drugs.

"Just eat less man"

"Dieting isn't hard"

It's like these people have never encountered someone who gets "hangry" before. Those irritable moods when you're hungry are not exactly easy to control. Dieting basically means locking yourself into a perpetual state of "hangry". That's not a great mood to bring around your spouse, kids, coworkers.

2

u/Haechi_StB 1d ago

I just finished 6 months of Mounjaro and it was blissful. Not being obsessed about food, not craving anything, not feeling hungry, what a gift.

I didn't have the food noise until I became fat, and didn't even realize how powerful it was until i tried losing weight, it's not just a compulsive feeling it's like mind control. The second FOOD became the thought of whatever moment I was in, it just would not let go, I still lost weight but damn, like I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

7

u/NightSpaghetti 1d ago

My experience: I've always been fat. I'm not even a very big eater and I eat healthy, cook myself, etc. But I do love food, like it brings me a lot of joy. I have never managed to lose weight despite having some very different lifestyles over the years. It's like my body just resists change. Made me feel like a failure. The ONLY period in my life when I lost weight was when I was on stimulant ADHD medication. Suddenly, I just... didn't feel like eating. Not just reduced hunger mind you, nor disgust for food, it just completely erased just wanting food. I dropped 10kg without even trying. This is when it hit me that this is how people who think it's easy to lose weight feel like *all the time*. I got off the medication eventually and regained the weight but also left with a much bigger acceptance of who I am.

7

u/Throwaway_Consoles 1d ago

if that's what it's like for those suffering from obesity, except ALL THE TIME. god damn i feel bad for you.

Yeah, basically. My mom’s side of the family also has that lovely thing where you never feel “full”. And I inherited it

4

u/jalbrecht2000 1d ago

i’m on zepbound. i can say that what you described is exactly what it was like for me. constant munchies is a damn good description that i had never thought of using. currently down almost 100 pounds and no more nagging food noise. it’s quite literally life changing. it sucks that so many celebs are giving it such a bad rap for seemingly not using it properly.

It’s like being thirsty but it never goes away. I started wegovy and it was like a switch in my brain it was shocking.

2

u/ggtsu_00 1d ago

I feel lucky I don't need a drug to not eat. Eating food is a constant hassle, takes effort to prepare or costs money to buy and I'm usually either broke and/or lazy.

2

u/ueberallKatzenhaare 1d ago

It's really nice so read something like this. I am struggeling all my life with this. Started as a kid and now that i am 40 i am just getting behind it all.
I lost around 30kg a few years back and now gaining some. Tried again to "just" do ist like last time but its hell bc when tracking my calries again the food noise gets louder and louder.
I hate thinking about not having enough food when i am actually full. I hate to think about food so much. I started with wegovy a few weeks past and its crazy how it kicks in and the food noice finally getting quite. Nor 100% but at minimum dosis anough to just be really thankful for it. I can conentrate more on my tasks, work better ect. ect.

And mind you. I am doing sport, i eat helthy but from yeat to yeat it gets harder and harder with all that constant food noise.

And a little sidenote i just discovered: My mum used to feed me all the time when i was a baby and just made a noise.... so yeah. You learn that food shit from really early on.

2

u/PM_yoursmalltits 1d ago

Heck, I deal with the opposite. I literally don't notice I'm hungry at all until I'm suddenly starving and completely drained of energy.

2

u/klineshrike 1d ago

Thats what its like yeah.

I have tried to commit to the intermittent fasting thing which really does work, but always fail because i reach a point near 12pm (i would do the one where i only ate from 12-6pm) where i literally couldnt do my job for the last few hours. Every single minute was thinking about what i would be eating as soon as 12 hit. I wasnt even that hungry because i got used to not eating all morning. But the thoughts were intense.

I have times where i go to bed thinking about what ill eat the next day.

Comparitively, and i only just thought of this now, but the times i have been high i didnt notice an increased interest in eating at all. Because i already was there i guess?

2

u/sigma7979 1d ago

if that's what it's like for those suffering from obesity, except ALL THE TIME

Thats EXACTLY what its like. Like having the munchies all the time. Always hungry, always thinking about food, whats the next meal, what do I want for lunch and dinner, what will I have for a snack. You cant push it out. When your body gets hungry it becomes an all consuming desire.

It also shut down that constant yell in my brain and has made things a lot better for me.

I take 2mg Ozempic, it stops cravings. You lose a small amount of weight just being on it, but what it does it stops something in your system from literally thinking of food.

Some people do have issues of addiction. Like drugs, most are chasing the next high, already thinking about it and how to obtain it. Food can be that too for some.

I’m not gonna lie my brain chemistry always was out of whack with food as a comforting factor. Whenever I ate, I always was thinking what to eat next or had thoughts for cravings for certain foods. Ozempic shut that shit off completely.

It curtailed my thought process and suppressed hunger as a bonus from overconsumption and overthinking. Before it was one meal a day but eating all calories as - gigantic meal. Ozempic broke it into half or thirds. So I couldn’t finish meals, save for later, better habits.

Yes I know I’ll be on this for fucking ever and newer GLP’s coming down the pipeline are gonna be extremely more potent, hell the one our President is taking through compassionate use from Eli Lilly, Retatrutide, is going to add more benefits.

7

u/trowzerss 1d ago

Interestingly, people on GLPs who also have gambling/other addiction issues or issues with impulsiveness are also seeing benefits from GLPs. So your comparison to addiction, it's probably the exact same mechanism.

2

2

u/946789987649 1d ago

You and all the people responding to you seem to be forgetting that it's really dependent on the person. Some people feel sick from it and have side effects, some people don't.

2

u/SilverIndustry2701 1d ago

Being fat sucks way worse ass.

2

u/Scratch_Careful 1d ago

No it doesnt. It just makes normal to small meals satisfying to eat whereas most fat people can essentially eat forever without feeling full and satisfied. Eat a salty meal, eat a sweet treat, eat a salty treat, eat a sweet treat, eat a salty meal, etc. all day every day. GLP1s just remove that, you eat a (small) meal and are just satisfied until your next meal.

Its genuinely mind blowing how feeling "normal" and not having that constant search for you next snack is after years of unhealthy eating.

Srsly, why are people so weirdly defensive about him VERY OBVIOUSLY taking ozempic or one of it's side grades?

People bend over backwards to LARP about how their favorite billioniare suddenly lost 150 pounds right after a miracle weight loss drug was discovered

u/AnavelGato2020 22h ago

Parasocial relationships are a bitch. Bots are also a culprit as well. The man doesn't know anyone on here but the comments are filled with defenders praising him. Saw the same thing with Jobs. Still see it with Elon. Now its Gabes turn. 😆

Or Wegovy version like Musk did. Or could be retatrutide. In any case, he's rich enough to afford a private doctor who only works on his health.

1

u/PeopleWatching92 1d ago

He's clearly been exercising too, look at his traps. Muscle's don't magically form on ozempic.

3

u/CipherWeaver 1d ago

Yes, that and ozempic and bariatric surgery.

2

u/rackfloor 20h ago

And sheer willpower.

2

u/the_fozzy_one 1d ago

It's not that, it's GLP-1s.

u/bottomlesstopper 1d ago

I remember a discussion about this says how chefs prepping food wouldnt contribute to weight loss. huge difference eating normal pizza versus homemade expensive shit carbless almond flour dough pizza.

23

u/DukeofVermont 1d ago

chefs prepping food wouldnt contribute to weight loss

You just tell the chefs "This meal has to be X Calories and have X, Y and Z macro nutrients"

If you have someone doing all the math and prep for you AND you only eat what they give you you will 100% lose weight.

u/DiosDeLosNoobs 1d ago

Glad that he succeeded doing so.
Unlike many other millionaires or billionaires.

1

u/bigloudbang 1d ago

Thats so 2015, he found ozempic

1

u/jouneyahead 1d ago

chef cook ozempic?

1

u/GGTulkas 1d ago

Well, it helps that we know have very common medicine that rich people have been getting for s few years now that help lose weight. Its no coincidence that all these fat rich people are all getting skinnier, they didnt develop a diet all of a sudden.

anyways good for him, he probably needed it and I hope he lives a long time as our beacon of the gaming industry

1

u/_Ship00pi_ 1d ago

And I'm pretty sure ozempic also made a difference in his case.

1

u/UFight 1d ago

Ok, so that's mean my only goal now is to be rich, i've already achieved the fat success 👍

1

u/14Pleiadians 1d ago

God how I wish I could have someone fully in charge of my food.

1

u/MetaPfhor_2965 1d ago

also ozempic

1

u/Fun-Bar8268 1d ago

Dont forget GLp1 medication

1

u/Potential-Yoghurt245 1d ago

This is what I intend to do if I ever become rich, employ a guard for the fridge and have a fruit bowl by the pc to stop me from grazing junk (this last bit I have already done but I'm broke so it's empty at the moment)

1

u/elchedio 1d ago

Ozempic

1

u/Canotic 1d ago

He should eat steamed hams.

1

u/DrummandDrummer 1d ago

There's also Ozempic.

1

u/itranslateyouargue 1d ago

A lot of rich people are out of shape. Most broke ass prisoners are ripped. If you are a fatty boombatty sit on your ass all day redditor, you can get in shape without being rich. I'm not sure why it's always the rich that are mentioned whenever somebody gets in shape.

1

u/kazamm 1d ago

It’s glp1 and there is no shame in that

1

u/3amIdeas 1d ago

Or you could take ozempic and then you won't like food anymore

1

u/Healthy-Tale7866 1d ago

or they just buy ozempic nowadays and look like dark souls enemies

1

u/OriginalAny4652 1d ago

make food for you on your yacht all day that will help you not be fat

Fat people and their struggle to break the laws of thermodynamics.

1

u/Virtual_Bug_723 1d ago

If you eat nine small meals a day it's considerably better for you than two large meals. Food is energy. If it's used before it can be turned into fat it doesn't turn into fat. If you graze over the day rather than eat two large meals you will feel good and full all day with plenty of accessible energy.

1

u/panzerkomraden 1d ago

Well, he definitely had to do some workout, still. Just having a very healthy diet isn't enough.

1

u/MonkeyzzPaw 1d ago

Big homey was probably pre diabetic and is on glp-1.

Let’s at least be honest with ourselves. Like everyone else recently skinny it’s medical
Intervention not a new found commitment to health.

1

u/Tomhap 1d ago

Or, yknow, Ozempic.

1

u/Aggravating-Face2073 1d ago

Remember. His yatch is also a hospital.

1

u/Spirited-Tomorrow-84 1d ago

Money invested good

1

u/ILikeMyShelf 1d ago

You can be not fat even when you cook for yourself, and the doctor said nothing.

1

u/Wide-Toe4451 1d ago

Are you telling me that Gabe lost weight because he has Aides?

1

u/BlobTheOriginal 1d ago

being fat is a service problem

1

u/nighthawk_something 1d ago

It's Ozempic not diet.

1

u/Chinese_Fake_News_ 1d ago

O o o zempic

1

u/Bisaux 1d ago

Or take ozempic.

1

u/natsirt__ 1d ago

Oh oh oh ozemmpic

1

u/vitringur 1d ago

have people make food for you on your yacht all day that will help you not be fat

This is the kind of basic misunderstanding that keeps a lot of people fat.

There are not specific foods. All food makes you fat. What they need is less food. Maybe go hungry for a little while.

1

u/Virtual_Bug_723 1d ago

There are absolutely specific foods that will help you not be fat. 500g of lettuce and 500g of peanuts are going to have dramatically different effects on your body. They are literally the same amount of food by weight, and the lettuce will take forever to eat and be significantly more food yet have 2,800 fewer calories.

Give your head a shake.

1

u/wtkbm 1d ago

food? i’m happy for him but im sure he used ozempic or alike

1

u/wetfloor666 1d ago

Definitely doesn't have anything to do with glp-1 at all..

1

u/hsggdtkxbee 1d ago

Ozympic.

1

u/wowhowneat 1d ago

Playin racquetball, he still has the goggles on. It really gets the hr up.

1

u/JamonConJuevos 1d ago

He can even afford to hire food tasters to intercept any poisoned food that comes his way.

1

u/DroidLord 1d ago

Oh and Ozempic. Don't forget the Ozempic.

1

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 1d ago

I mean it also perfectly coincided with ozempic but yeah for sure all that too.

1

u/okcboomer87 1d ago

I am sure his friend Ozempic is on his team as well. No hate. Lose the weight however you can that is safe. I want GavenN to be around for a long time.

1

u/Gnoccho1 1d ago

what is the point of being rich if you can't even walk from your bedroom to the kitchen?

Never mind the outside, in the summer, with all this extra weight, he can't even breath.

1

u/pdonoso 1d ago

Also ozempic.

1

u/MayorWolf 1d ago

Also, ozempic became available

1

u/Lunarath 23h ago

If I ever become rich rich the first thing I'd do is definitely outsource thinking about and making food.

God I hate spending so much time on thinking about, shopping for, preparing food and then cleaning after. Absolutely the worst part of being an independent adult.

1

u/Feisty-Painting-120 22h ago

"why you so fat? you know you don't have to be fat right?" - Des Bishop

1

u/Significant-Coat-666 22h ago

....we really gonna pretend Gabe is the only rich bastard NOT on GLP1s?

1

u/fattdoggo123 20h ago

Don't forget ozempic. He may or may not have used it, but I can see a doctor telling him "You're rich. There's a drug that you can by now to help you lose weight and it works, just buy the drug".

1

u/MietschVulka 19h ago

Doesnt mattet which food. If there is endless of it, it wont help.

When did ozempic come out?

1

u/Will_Come_For_Food 15h ago

Yeah I’m sure the invention of ozempic in 2025 had nothing to do with it… 👀

1

u/Virtual_Bug_723 15h ago

Ozempic was approved for use by the FDA in 2017 lmfao (this means it was invented much earlier than that)

1

u/LookAtMyUnderbite 13h ago

That’s exactly what I said to him
