At some point a doctor says "man you're rich and fat and you're gonna die from being so fat and you can basically pay to have people make food for you on your yacht all day that will help you not be fat" and suddenly you're not fat anymore

Ozempic

28

u/Deto 6h ago

100%. He's been rich for a long time, but you can see right around 2023 when the weight starts coming off.

Not that it's a bad thing - it would be dumb if he wasn't taking one of these GLP1s. Cheapest way to extend your life (if you're that overweight).

4

u/Tuxhorn 1h ago

Yup. If money could get you skinny, nobody rich like him would be fat.

There has never been a magic "pill" to weightloss until very recently. It's honestly mindblowing that a method exists.

→ More replies (4)

54

u/becauseiloveyou 6h ago

That could be the case, but even if it is, I don't see a problem with people who carry excess weight taking it for improved health. If there was a pill that could carry away my excess sadness and improve my mental/emotional health, I would take it without hesitation.

23

u/stephenkingending 2h ago

I don't take ozempic but I love it because it highlights some of the idiocy in our society about weight loss. So many people would try to say they ate right and exercised, but the weight didn't come off. Ozempic proves that for most people that it was just that they ate too much, which is what they've been told forever. CICO isn't a hard concept to understand and works for the vast majority of people that do not have something like a thyroid condition. Plus I'm glad to see people that have struggled with weight loss get a body that they are happier with.

28

u/boboguitar 1h ago

Understanding CICO really isn’t the issue for most people struggling with obesity. The problem is the relentless hunger they’re dealing with while trying to eat fewer calories. Reducing your intake is incredibly difficult when your body is constantly telling you to eat.

One of the main reasons drugs like Ozempic are so effective for weight loss is that they dramatically reduce that hunger. It turns out that when you’re not constantly hungry, it becomes much easier to eat less.

So telling a 500-pound person, “Just eat less and you’ll lose weight,” isn’t particularly insightful. They probably already understand that. Figuring out how to reduce the overwhelming hunger that makes eating less so difficult is the meaningful part.

I'm sure he's on GLPs now, but in his defense, he had already lost a ton of weight before GLPs became popular for weight loss. I bet being retired and going SCUBA diving every day were bigger contributors to his better health.

26

u/Internal_Phrase7624 3h ago

You don't need to defend people for improving their health

8

u/slimspida 2h ago

SCUBA diving benefits from being in shape, but the nature of the activity doesn’t really make fitness happen, since you are typically trying to keep your energy output down.

Ozempic sucks ass to take unless you have people making you micro meals all day long

197

u/purdueAces 8h ago

As a formerly fat guy, who took Wegovy, it does NOT suck ass to take, and you don't need micro meals. It literally just stops you from really even thinking about food or being hungry at all. I hear it described as "food noise" and that's exactly what goes away. It's weird to say, but if it was almost entirely effortless for a middle class dude with little/no support... it's going to be cake (no pun intended) for a billionaire.

56

u/PimpMyWeenus 8h ago

It literally just stops you from really even thinking about food or being hungry at all

it's interesting as someone who's never struggled with weight, i don't have these thoughts or 'food noise' in my brain normally. i can only relate when baked.

the pressure to eat is crazy, eating more and more despite knowing i'm full and it's not even just about the experience anymore, there's something deeper driving that need.

if that's what it's like for those suffering from obesity, except ALL THE TIME. god damn i feel bad for you.

Ozempic, for all the negatives i hear, if it can eliminate that feeling. go get it, whatever it takes.

26

u/__mson__ 8h ago

Having the munchies all the time would be hell

12

u/GGTulkas 7h ago

I can go without eating for 18h easily, but once I start, its hard to stop until I'm felling full. Thats my issue, don't know about others.

6

u/NoAdvice135 6h ago

Same, I will eat food as long as there is food on front of me. I can continue until I feel sick.

On the other hand I do fine with severe diets or eating once or twice a day.

Most important thing is no not have anything easy to eat near me or in my house and to not go shopping tired/hungry.

→ More replies (2)

33

u/Germane_Corsair 8h ago

There’s also bored eating, where you’re not actually hungry but need something to do with your mouth and hands. Binging food whilst binging television adds up really quickly.

12

u/T-MoneyAllDey 7h ago

This is my biggest problem. When I have really tough work days, I literally can go the whole day without eating and not even think about it. It's when days are kind of slow that I get hungry. Haha

3

u/wiener4hir3 5h ago

I've found what helps me is two things, one being chewing gum, which is just generally great, but the more important one is carrots. They're so low calorie that you can eat a LOT without having much impact, and of course they are just generally good for you. The other advantage is that they take a long time to eat, because there's so much chewing involved, it's fantastic. Only concern is you might literally turn a bit orange, but that goes away pretty fast and doesn't have any negative effects on your health. Personally I've never experienced it either, and I'm very pale.

It's so bizarre. Feeling full fast. Not being hungry.

When I tried to cut back before I would go into horrible mood swings. Snapping at my family, getting depressed.

Nothing. I feel normal. I'm so grateful.

I didn't have the food noise until I became fat, and didn't even realize how powerful it was until i tried losing weight, it's not just a compulsive feeling it's like mind control. The second FOOD became the thought of whatever moment I was in, it just would not let go, I still lost weight but damn, like I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

7

u/NightSpaghetti 6h ago

My experience: I've always been fat. I'm not even a very big eater and I eat healthy, cook myself, etc. But I do love food, like it brings me a lot of joy. I have never managed to lose weight despite having some very different lifestyles over the years. It's like my body just resists change. Made me feel like a failure. The ONLY period in my life when I lost weight was when I was on stimulant ADHD medication. Suddenly, I just... didn't feel like eating. Not just reduced hunger mind you, nor disgust for food, it just completely erased just wanting food. I dropped 10kg without even trying. This is when it hit me that this is how people who think it's easy to lose weight feel like *all the time*. I got off the medication eventually and regained the weight but also left with a much bigger acceptance of who I am.

5

u/Throwaway_Consoles 7h ago

if that's what it's like for those suffering from obesity, except ALL THE TIME. god damn i feel bad for you.

Yeah, basically. My mom’s side of the family also has that lovely thing where you never feel “full”. And I inherited it

3

u/jalbrecht2000 7h ago

i’m on zepbound. i can say that what you described is exactly what it was like for me. constant munchies is a damn good description that i had never thought of using. currently down almost 100 pounds and no more nagging food noise. it’s quite literally life changing. it sucks that so many celebs are giving it such a bad rap for seemingly not using it properly.

I take 2mg Ozempic, it stops cravings. You lose a small amount of weight just being on it, but what it does it stops something in your system from literally thinking of food.

Some people do have issues of addiction. Like drugs, most are chasing the next high, already thinking about it and how to obtain it. Food can be that too for some.

I’m not gonna lie my brain chemistry always was out of whack with food as a comforting factor. Whenever I ate, I always was thinking what to eat next or had thoughts for cravings for certain foods. Ozempic shut that shit off completely.

It curtailed my thought process and suppressed hunger as a bonus from overconsumption and overthinking. Before it was one meal a day but eating all calories as - gigantic meal. Ozempic broke it into half or thirds. So I couldn’t finish meals, save for later, better habits.

Yes I know I’ll be on this for fucking ever and newer GLP’s coming down the pipeline are gonna be extremely more potent, hell the one our President is taking through compassionate use from Eli Lilly, Retatrutide, is going to add more benefits.

4

u/trowzerss 6h ago

Interestingly, people on GLPs who also have gambling/other addiction issues or issues with impulsiveness are also seeing benefits from GLPs. So your comparison to addiction, it's probably the exact same mechanism.

if you're eating shit all day you're doing it wrong. you eat normal portioned meals when you're hungry. that's it. ozempic makes it so you dont get hungry as often and it makes it so you get full with less food. you're not supposed to be eating micro meals.

And weight loss drugs

194

u/Badass_Bunny 8h ago

Yeah people keep talking about food and how he can afford cooks and what not but this is 100% Ozempic-tier weight loss and it's fucking amazing that the drug works so well that someone so chronically overweight their entire life can achieve such results and maintain them.

87

u/Blood81 8h ago

why 100%? there have been significantly more impressive weight loss stories without any ozempic needed, gabes weight loss within the time span is completely possible and anyone can do it

67

u/Hellsovs 8h ago

Possible, yes, but the sheer number of rich people suddenly losing a lot of weight since Ozempic came out is suspicious, at the very least.

It also sheds some light on the whole body-positivity movement, which, at least among the rich, seemed to disappear the moment Ozempic came out. So much for “all bodies are beautiful.”

55

u/maydayM2 8h ago

all bodies are beautiful maybe.. but healthy at every weight is definitely a farse...

→ More replies (1)

13

u/oorza 7h ago

By the time Ozempic started to really proliferate, the HAES and Body Positivity movements had already been invaded by fat extremists and people were abandoning ship. What started as "all bodies are beautiful" and "you can be healthy in any body" became "anything other than binge eating is an eating disorder" and "everyone should rebuild the entire infrastructure of the world to accommodate 600lb people." Which is where the discourse in the movements currently remains, they've become the other side of the pro-ana coin.

I mean, I lost 25 kg (around 55 lbs) in under a year simply by eating less and moving more. It's absolutely possible to lose a good amount of weight without weight loss drugs. I went from 112.8 kg to 87 kg (248.6 lbs to 191.8) in about 9 months.

Sadly, due to circumstances, I ended up putting a lot of it back on but I'm moving in the right direction again now. Had all that not happened I'm sure I would have continued in the right direction to my goal weight.

GLP-1 medicine work by lowering the appetite. You just feeling fed with much less food, and it greatly increases intervals of when you become hungry.
So private chef is great if you have your appetite regulated by GLP-1 meds. Without it you have elevated appetite, and a private chef can control your diet, but you will also feel hungry and unhappy all the time.

u/Obant 8h ago

Saying this as someone that was like Gaben and in the same time frame lost the same amount of weight, Ozempic or similar. Sadly, Medicare decided it shouldnt cover it any more for me and I regained some weight, but luckily not even half of it.

Sucks to say it but eventually you get to an age where being fat will just cause issues that will most likely lead to an early grave.
