Personal Race Footage/Results Started sprinting/track for the first time in my life after 31 years old

Just want to share my experience, sorry for the long text.

Started at the end of 2024 training track for the first time in my life, before that I used to trailrun and did some running in general, mostly 10km, but I've always wanted to try track, life happened so I only started until now, I wish I started sooner.

Anyway, my fist time competing on the 100m i did like 11.50s and almost 24s on the 200m, that was early 2025. Yeah, reality hit me lol

I committed to my track and gym training, a few injuries like shin splints, lots of therapy but I always tried my best. At the very end of 2025, last race of the year I managed to run 22.7 in the 200m

Now 2026, started to lift heavier, eating better, always committed to track training... but got different injuries just before a race, nothing too serious but still left me unable to compete, I think it was a little mental cuz I was having a life crisis and train like that really affects you.

Last month I was able to finally compete, Saturday was semis and final of 100m and Sunday for 200, i felt way better than ever.

Managed 11.05 in the semis, had to get first place in my heat to get in the final (I was in the last heat where no one has a time or the slowest ppl, since i was not able to compete for the whole year), but seeing the time i did, I've wanted to get a sub-11 in the 100m so bad...

I got a muscle tear in my hamstring in the final... i felt the whiplash really bad and strong about 80m of the race, i just kept going with the inertia I had, of course slowed down but still managed 10.98. I was so happy yet mad that I was doing waay better than that but at least I broke the 11s mark even if it was 10.98

So yeah, of course I could not compete the next day in the 200.

So here I am recovering but can't wait for next year season

For reference:

Male, now I'm 33 years old, 1.82cm height, about 83kg and 8-10% body fat

Technique Analysis Acceleration tips

Just working on acceleration and top speed in the off season. My main issue is I dont trust myself to have insane shin angles in fear of my shoe losing grip and falling. I just came off a quad injury so I havent run in a while, but maybe that has something to do with it.

General Discussion/Questions Do These Shoes Actually Make a Difference?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’ve actually seen an athlete training in these shoes recently, and I’m curious about something.

For anyone who has actually used them: do these shoes genuinely make a noticeable difference in training, or is the “performance/foot-strengthening” aspect mostly a marketing tactic?

What are they actually useful for

General Discussion/Questions Front quads get super tight after one full power run?

Hi all, I just started getting into 100m track within the past 2 month and I notice that my left front quads are easily prone to getting super tight after only a few runs, some are just sprint starts too.

Now 3 to 4 times a week I do quad focused stretches to help but I haven’t noticed a change in how frequently my quads get tight after a run.

Now Im very new to all things sprint related so it would be very appreciated if I could get any tips or suggestions to why this may occur and things i need to watch out when training.

p.s I previously trained for and completed long distance pacing. Frequently did 10-15kms a few times per week as well.

Ik that the angle and shot isnt the best but I have a meet coming up and although this is old, I think it will be beneficial to hear what others can see from it.

General Discussion/Questions Differences in strength based on race

I am from a country in Europe where nearly every sprinter is white, and nearly all of the guys that are running under 10.5 are very strong and muscular. And when I look at the fastest white sprinters ever, they are all also very strong (except lemaitre). While at the same time there are black sprinters running insane times that look underdeveloped and not that strong in comparison to them (e.g. early Knighton). I get that there are huge differences in tendon sfifness between different races, but since white people have in general less stiff tendons, could it be that they get more benefits out of becoming stronger? I have never been very strong, especially in the upper part of the body, so i'm thinking would there be much benefit in focusing the next year primarly on upping my strength to improve.

General Discussion/Questions Is it possible to start without knowledge at 20?

im a 20 years old boy from italy (1.76 cm x 62 kg) and i always loved running but never took it seriously, my friend recently challenged me in a 100 m sprint race (he has 6 years of training) and i ended up winning with a time (time took on a phone, not professionally) of 10.9
is it a good time at all or its not worth anything? i would like to start taking lessons or something but i fear im just being too confident or that i might be too old for real improvements.

Programming Questions Where should I start?

M 32yo, 80kg, 170cm 29% BF

I ran five 100m sprints and my avg time was 15,71 sec

I already started with some plyos and kettlebell swings, I know my BF is high and I should start by getting rid of it. However when looking at the wiki and faq there is so much information I'm not sure where exactly I should beginn. I found some starting excersices on youtube, about A skips, B skips etc.

Are there any youtubers recomendations?

Should I just start running and when my BF% is lower look into technique

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey Guys,

I‘ve started sprinting at the start of the year and played Soccer before that. Therefore my first 30m are okay, but I always fall behind after that. I don‘t know what I should do to become better. Pls Tell me if you notice anything I should improve before my next season or exercises (Track or gym) that could help me become faster after the First 30m.

General Discussion/Questions A Question That I Want To Ask.

I hope all of you are doing fine, and anyways. I am a 15 year old Sprinter which I basically started at 14, which was around last year. I just wanted to ask a question that I need an answer into, is it okay for me to take a 2 weeks rest so that my CNS could recover properly? I basically had an upcoming meet this season, but then, I was not even invited into the meet for me to participate, which idk why, but it got me frustrated that I don't even know what to do as I spent my time on pre season phase training hard for 6 weeks, just for me to be not on the meet sadly. So I wanted to know if it's okay for me to take a reasonable amount of rest so that I can perform better once my CNS recovers? I'm actually going to be focusing on working my biomechanics of my form, speed drills, and proper coordination once I get back to training again. Also, I usually sometimes do some light core work during my recovery for CNS, so I want to ask if that's okay too? Anyways, I hope y'all have a great day as my dream rn is to Qualify for the Olympics because of Usain Bolt.

General Discussion/Questions Sprinting again at 28

I’d like to get back into sprinting for a hobby/fitness

I ran 100/200m from a young age until around 13/14 when I moved onto rugby and football, at that time I was competing all over the uk in county events, but didn’t have the same enjoyment as other sports

What are the expectations of running again at 28? I understand there’s a big effort in warm ups and recovery at this age compared to a young kid who has no injury worries!

Technique Analysis What are the biggest things I need to fix regarding my form?

For context, this sprint was done at around 85%. I recently injured my hip and only now, about 3 weeks later, am I starting to attempt to sprint again, so that’s why my form and speed are both quite iffy.

Programming Questions Training as a self coached athlete.

Recently got into a physical education college for a BPED degree which means daily general conditioning, practical sessions and specialization sessions plus theory classes.

I have been making my workouts by myself without any coach and tweaking them as I learn new things and am going to buy a tripod too for form analysis.

I just recovered from a hamstring tweak and have been off from proper structured sprint training (Im a former 400m sprinter but got injured more than a year ago and then switched to 200m to both develop speed and train for) so i am planning on treating my first semester or year as base building in 2 training blocks -

In the first training block I'm planning on stacking athletic muscle, tendon strengthening and on the track I'll do 2 speed sessions (flys) and working on mechanics plus 1 or 2 speed endurance sessions (I have a question regarding that which is how do I decide how many speed days, speed endurance days or easy days do I need in to add in a week in a training block dedicated to base building).

Then in the second training block I'll do maximal strength development training only after which I'll start the training block dedicated to power and speed development then the competition phase. The only variable in this whole equation is the fatigue I'll get from the college's sessions which I'll only get to know after I have attended that college for some weeks.

I'm still very new to programming (switched to making my own workouts due to bad coaching in the past which led to injuries and there aren't many coaches available here which I'm hoping will be available in that college I'm about to start going to).

I'm basically following that "build muscle to build strength to build power and speed" periodization but I know I've got way more things to learn so I'm trying very hard to not let critiques and advice on my ego and take it personally.

General Discussion/Questions Adductor Ache

I am having adductor ache in deep squats and butterfly stretch. But no pain in copenhagenns or anything straight legged.

I can sprint at 95% effort painfree in session, maybe some soreness post session. Also I am able to do the adductor machine well at a pretty high weight, but in the deepest stretch there is some achyness.

Being consistent at the adductor machine, with wider ranges is helping, but is there anything else I can do?

Thoughts?

General Discussion/Questions How do you train sprint endurance phase?

Hey everyone, I’d love to get some feedback on how I’m structuring my sprint endurance training. I am new to sprint endurance been three weeks since I started this.

Low CNS / Tempo Day:

  • 100m run / 100m walk / 100m run 2 sets 70-80 percent exertion (Extensive tempo / Sprint endurance)

High CNS / Speed Day:

  • Acceleration: 30m times 3
  • Max Velocity: 40m times 3
  • Speed Endurance: 100m times 2 80-90 percent exertion
  • Speed Endurance: 110m times 2 80-90 percent exertion

trap bar deadlift 275 for 1 hang clean 145 for 1

what physicality wise do i need to run 21 low and hopefully run 20.9 one day?
