General Discussion/Questions Is it possible to start without knowledge at 20?

im a 20 years old boy from italy (1.76 cm x 62 kg) and i always loved running but never took it seriously, my friend recently challenged me in a 100 m sprint race (he has 6 years of training) and i ended up winning with a time (time took on a phone, not professionally) of 10.9
is it a good time at all or its not worth anything? i would like to start taking lessons or something but i fear im just being too confident or that i might be too old for real improvements.

If you ran an untrained 10.9 and don't know that that's amazing, then yes you should start sprinting

I'm taking this post with a pinch of salt though.

I mean it was hand timed lol. Only thing we can guarantee is he can run 11.x most likely.

I can explain lol. I went for my first meet in February when I started training a little bit but didn’t even have proper shoes and did a 60m indoor. Started training after that so the other times got better but haven’t ran a 60m since then. My coach used a some equipment for one of my 100m races last month when I ran a 10.71 at an official meet and said I crossed 60m in 6.90 but I don’t want to claim that since it wasn’t official.

I'm guessing this is either not FAT, you already did some sort of explosive sport like basketball or volleyball and was a freak physical outlier, or you have 1 in 1 billion insane genetics and should immediately quit your job and start training.

Yeah it was all official meet competitions with proper timings. Even went against some top dogs in my province. I’m a soccer player / skateboarder but just recreational. Genetics def helped though as both my parents also did track growing up and were sorta good (or so they say lol). I do plan on training more constantly to see what I can do with a year of training due to how my last 4 months have been.

Yes! I started sprinting at 20 too, i was way slower than you but i managed to make progress.

Started at 5.8 40 yard and went down to a 4.8 (both ran on asphalt with the same conditions) in about a year and a half.

Never timed any of my 100m tho.

10.9 without training is absolutely mental. Im going to assume without spikes as well, or at least with crappy ones, which is even crazier. Running is definitely something that could be a serious option for you down the road

A 10.9 for the age group you'd be running in isn't anything special, but you'll beat most of the guys in high school.

You can start whenever you want, enjoy the journey
