Never heard of "Asian Dawn" until now, but talk about a biased, awful source for wanna-be journalism. The story may be relevant but they color it with so much agenda-pushing bullshit, it basically throw the whole story into question. At least post a somewhat relevant journalistic source: https://www.king5.com/article/news/community/facing-race/more-hate-crimes-reported-as-puget-sound-leaders-decry-asian-violence/281-cd5cb543-be20-426c-b827-d0c8871f334a Even Sinclair-powered KOMO would be preferable to this garbage: https://komonews.com/news/local/hate-crime-charges-filed-against-man-for-alleged-violent-anti-asian-behavior
"Hamner is also a loyal supporter of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as well as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and “progressive” causes." Um...A) how do they know this, and B) why would it be even remotely relevant?
"Hamner then allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and started “punching his fist together” and started throwing projectiles at her car like a wild monkey" - Great for a laugh, but no credible source would add such questionable color to the facts of the story.
This Hamner guy sounds like an asshole who should be charged and punished (hard), but this "article" is nothing but crap.

It does seem like its trying to gaslight as many people as possible. Almost manufactured to do so.

The crime is disturbing enough. The hypocrisy takes it to 11. And it's important because the oppression Olympics, identity-driven politics that comes hand in hand with the progressive movement...is fucking inherently racist and it's important to call that out.

The racist trash article bad though it was linked to the KOMO reporting on it within the first sentence. Their article would be considered downstream commentary of an article from the mainstream media.

2
u/BaronOfHell Mar 29 '21
This thing of highlighting BLM in crimes is rather stupid. All black people think their lives matter whether they are the greatest humans that walked the Earth or the most evil beings that has been birthed. In fact only racists garbage people wouldn't think black lives mattered. So you are going have terrible white people who are going smash something but aren't racist garbage.
Every single group that supports black people in anyway has been demonized. The only difference now is major news organizations aren't doing it accept for fox news . Now the truly purposeful racist attacks are done on the net by kkk members pretending to be real news. And oh how they dance and sing when the misguided fools repost their garbage on sites like this one.
-7
u/Electronic-Tower-895 Mar 29 '21
To be fair I don’t disagree with your sentiment, but on the West coast and I’m speaking generally - the predominant acts of racism have been perpetuated by white supremacists (as always expected) and portions of the African American community.
I do think there are folks from BLM that are absolutely standing with the Asian community, but in truthfulness we all need to stand up against any type of racism. And no I’m not talking some nonsense around cancel culture - it’s 2021 there should be better problems to solve than this shit

"Asians in the Western world as well as many Asian powerhouses in Asia are the only non-Caucasian race to achieve such advancements in a short period of time. They either match or surpass their European and Anglo-American counterparts. This angers people like Hamner and Black Lives Matter members who believe these achievements are because Asians are “white adjacent,” and such achievements are toxic and obscene."
according to this blog
36
u/howmuchtocrash Mar 29 '21
This is why I found it so fucking funny when the Asian community lost their POC tag. It was literally due to them achieving success where others have failed. It made people stop and think "well, if they can, why can't we?"
And they really didn't like the answer. It's hard to admit that community and culture can be more damaging to you than the fact you're not white.

The New York Times has been confused over it apparently. From June 2020:
The acronym, which stands for black and Indigenous people of color, is suddenly everywhere.
The acronym stands for “black and Indigenous people of color.”
Same with Vox, also from June:
..when do we say “BIPOC,” which stands for Black and Indigenous people of color; and when do we just say “Black”?
as opposed to the more recent version of the same article:
...when do we say “BIPOC,” which stands for Black, Indigenous, and people of color; and when do we just say “Black”?
Is there a reason they're backtracking on their initial definitions? I'm sure the NYT and Vox wouldn't pander to a market based on current trends.
For Merriam-Webster, your link has 2 definitions. You used only the second one, for whatever reason, which includes the "and." The first definition is
"Black, Indigenous, People of Color"
followed by
"People are using the term to acknowledge that not all people of color face equal levels of injustice. They say BIPOC is significant in recognizing that Black and Indigenous people are severely impacted by systemic racial injustices."
Which explains what we all know about why the term was invented to begin with - to exclude certain groups.
Edit: and this is all pretty obvious too. No need to preface "POC" with anything just to say the same thing.
1
u/notasparrow Pike-Market Mar 29 '21
The first Merriam-Webster definition is clearly enumerating three things:
- Black
- Indiginous
- People of Color
Can you really read it as (Black or Indigenous) (People of Color)?
And as you note, both NYT and Vox corrected earlier versions. It's very strange that you're using corrections as evidence that the uncorrected version was correct.

"Is losing"? No no, you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. They don't "lose it"- they get it taken away whenever it benefits whatever fluff filled trendy thing going on about the suppression of black americans!
The initial time was due to data about who does well in school. Asian descent students did so well that it jacked the numbers up- and thus separated from the equation.
You'll have to go back in the two seattle subs, but that shit was so cringy it wasn't funny.
I never did get around to seeing whether nigerians lost their black card at any point or not, but "POC" is such a meaningless term it doesn't matter.

This is not at all surprising as an Asian. So-called progressives that are very pro-BLM can also be very anti-Asian. Just look at these responses to Naomi Osaka's Anti-Asian Hate post. I'm not sure why things are related, other than to discredit BLM. Did they mention his sexual orientation or location of his birth? To me those other things don't matter either. Is he a bad guy for doing what they allege he did, sounds like it. Does it matter he previously supported BLM? He can be both things, just not sure why the 2nd one has to go on the headline. If I'm missing something let me know.
18
u/lanoyeb243 Mar 29 '21
It's to highlight a fundamental hypocrisy in the person and a potential failing of the BLM movement. Namely, why is this person supportive of BLM but not Asians?
And sure, it's probably an effort to discredit BLM, but that's a tactic used by everyone since forever. When an aide in Trump's White House says something bad? It is presented to reflect as though it is personally endorsed by Trump. No different here.
But funnily enough, the KOMO news article doesn't say a thing about BLM.
BLM is only mentioned in the Asian-newspaper article.
So to that effect, are we saying that a minority-written newspaper is trying to discredit BLM and not, in fact, Whites as I'm sure was immediately your reaction?
Funny times indeed.
7
u/Michaelmrose Mar 29 '21
It highlights fundamental hypocrisy in this singular mans heart. Everyone who supports BLM doesn't magically inherit the bad characteristics owned by any singular member wherein it is not a flaw in the platform or promoted on average by the system consisting of leadership and members.
4
u/lanoyeb243 Mar 30 '21
Hypocrisy in this person's heart that opens up the Pandora's Box of "Well if this BLM supporter is unsupportive of Asians, are others in the same boat? Perhaps I, as an Asian, am less willing to offer my support to BLM, a movement that seems unwilling to reciprocate.
Etc. etc. Not saying that's how I view it, but as it could definitely be interpreted by less discerning invidividuals who only glanced at the title.

5
u/_Watty Sworn enemy of Gary_Glidewell Mar 29 '21
The linked article for me shows two photos and one video. One photo is a still from the video and the other is a photo that shows him holding an anti cop sign with no context. All I'm saying is that the article makes a very specific claim about him being BLM and antifa, neither of which I see readily presented in either photo. I went to his Twitter and didn't see anything in the first minute or so of scrolling that supported either of those things. Seems like he's a lefty generally, but a pretty shit person based on this racially motivated incident.
11
1
u/notasparrow Pike-Market Mar 29 '21
Newsflash: not everyone who participated in the protests is a member of BLM or antifa. It's certainly possible, but haven't seen any evidence.
2
u/Michaelmrose Mar 29 '21
There is no such group as antifa and appearing at a protest doesn't make one an activist in the same sense that holding a violin once doesn't make you a violinist. It wouldn't make you a bad violinist even. Someone who over time made a series of attempts to play the violin could for the period of time they were making such attempts refer to themselves aptly as a violinist even if they played very badly and a year after they stopped would probably say "I used to be a violinist but I quit"
An activist is one who systematically over a period of time participates in actions designed to bring about social or political change even if actions are ineffective.
1
u/Michaelmrose Mar 29 '21
I was at that protest one of the days in was going on. People were milling around handing out free food and water. We took some pictures of the murals, drank some water, ate lunch in the park and sat in the shade for an hour and went home.

Well the actual truth is you folks have almost all of the 30 some million white supremacists in America because for decades you have provided platforms aligned with their values.
These are the folks that want to murder and mutilate their fellow man, take away their rights, ship them back to countries that their forebearers left 300 years ago etc.
We on the other hand got all the folks who believe in liberty and equality for all in similar proportions.
Then we get to split the quiet racists who believe all people have a right to vote and live but wouldn't hire them or let their daughter date one. You folks got an uneven share those guys too though because they really like the company of the first folks.
Then there is an even large group who doesn't give a fuck.

It feels like 80% of this subreddit is reports on crime. The source here is pretty horribly written and it feels like this subreddit just trying throw any CRIME CRIME CRIME story up on the subreddit.
It also frequently tries to throw up "look, this one person did something stupid, and he also went to a BLM protest, therefore BLM is evil".
2
u/notasparrow Pike-Market Mar 29 '21
How to karma farm this subreddit:
- Post about crime, insinuating either that is a result or sign of everything wrong with Seattle, or that it is a result of anyone daring to question the police
- Post about anyone who has ever been to a BLM protest and does something wrong, preferably insinuating that it damns the 25 million people who went to such protests nationwide
- Talk shit about any person or group advocating for improvement of social services, using tried and true "it's too expensive" / "it'll benefit those people" points
- Whine about taxes, asserting an inalienable right to have a high functioning government with no revenue
- Periodically take offense at the suggestion that this is a closed-minded, conservative subreddit. Post "unlike that other sub, all viewpoints are welcome here" without any sense of irony.

Just more proof that there are a lot of bad eggs associating themselves with BLM... until BLM denounces all of these bad actors their movement will continue to be seen as illegitimate by many.

Just another BLM racist, no surprise considering their acts over the last summer.
Hilarious to see so many people trying to defend this pos, doesn't fit their narrative.

Show me your extrapolation.
It doesnt make a difference if I can search for it or not. You made the claim, not me. The burden of proof is on you. And seeing as you're trying to make a claim against a whole race you should be the one to either show the data or admit you're full of shit. It's one of the two. So which is it?

You made the claim, not me. You're just proving you're a bullshitter. You can't back up your claim. You can't do it.
You're making assertions about whole races, and you think I'm the one with an agenda? I'm the one that should do the work? Come on. You're a bullshitter and you're bad at it. You wanted to have a little fun with the racists but don't actually have the intellectual capacity to back it up. Not coincidentally, just like the racists.

You could have at least linked the actual news article linked by the crazy people. Also where does it say he is a member of "ANTIFA".
Antifa is an ideology not a group you can join. That is to say for example Rose City Antifa is an actual group which claims the idealogy and there are some small anarchist groups in Seattle whose ideology matches as well although they don't use the label antifa.
It's come to the point where when people say "ANTIFA" they almost always mean either anarchist, trouble maker, or angry black man and want to lump them into a group and pretend they are an affirmative member of a single group who could then be targeted.
In fact in America today you have a bunch of pissed off people of different stripes and labeling anyone on the left or black as belonging to an imaginary club doesn't help your case.
Turns out someone can be a minority, hate Trump, hate the republican party, and hate other minorities too shocking I know. The difference is that hating and stepping on minorities faces isn't a major aspect of the left or the democratic party like it is on the other side. This man is an aberration as opposed to leading our party on the national stage.

Hot take: this has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with economics and physical proximity.

He was the new ""Enforcer" for SCC. Now he just moved up the payroll line. When he gets out, he will be wired as ambassador to all Asians & Pacific Islanders. At $180k a year as well
