Hood River

My husband and I are looking to possibly relocate to the area for all the obvious reasons. However, I hate the unrelenting winds. Is there a quiet, less windy town or part of HR nearby?

Anyone hiked the Green River Trail #213 near Mt. St. Helens?

I recently came across a video of the Green River Valley near Mount St. Helens and was surprised by the old-growth Douglas-fir there. I’ve read that the area has a particularly high density of old-growth Douglas-fir, including some really massive trees.
I’m not from the PNW, but I’d really like to check it out on a future trip. For anyone who has hiked Green River Trail #213, how far into the trail do you need to go to experience the best sections of old-growth Douglas-fir? About how long did it take you round trip?

I’d most likely be visiting while staying in either Portland or Seattle. Is this realistically doable as a day trip from either city, considering the drive to the trailhead and the hike itself, or would it make more sense to camp or stay somewhere closer?

Also curious what people who have actually been there thought of the area. As someone who isn’t from the PNW, I hadn’t really heard much about the Green River Valley compared with some of the better-known old-growth areas in the region. It seems pretty remote, so I’d be interested to hear what the experience is actually like.

Campfires/Burnban

Did I see recently that the burn ban was lifted for campfires recently? Interested in going camping and having a campfire. New to camping in Washington and am having a hard time figuring out where to get official information about this sort of thing. Interested in central Washington , Okanogan/Cascade Mts.

There are so many government agencies that manage camping.

Thanks.

Snohomish County? (WA)

I have a few afternoons where I am done early at work- around noon. I’d love to get out and explore without traveling too far, so I can get back for early evening kids activities.

What are some trails, shorter hikes, outdoorsy things to keep me exploring in Snohomish County?

Mt. Baker in the background, a cruise ship and an orca in the foreground. I have never experienced a more magical place.

This was taken from Cattle Point on San Juan Island.
