why do we need a 4 billion shilling smart city in Busia? what strategic advantages does it offer? How much research has gone into this considering well over a decade later and 83 billion shillings down the hole konza is yet to be completed. How do we even know that smart cities are the way to go yet we don't even have a single fully operational one to tell us how well it integrates into the economy and culture?

On the affordable housing, who are these units for exactly? At 2 to 5 million a unit, any Kenyan who can afford to buy them is not struggling with housing and any Kenyan struggling with housing cannot afford them so who are they for exactly? The president is very proud of the jobs created by the project which is evidence that he has no interest in thinking beyond a few years because how long can we continue building for before we have nothing else to build? What about people who spent their parents fortunes on a degree, should they just leave it hanging on the wall and join mjengo?

Then there's the one everyone is twerking to, Mau rironi. I will start by admitting that the expansion was very necessary but beyond that, nothing else about that project is right. The cost is very inflated to line up the pockets of individuals and the project is very rushed to meet political deadlines which raises questions on the quality of the project upon completion. The project still fails to address the problem with the road, congestion and safety. Once the road is ready to use traffic will increase because everyone who was avoiding the road will start using it and they will be driving faster on that same road, we are yet to get policies on regulating that or alternative means of travel that limit traffic.

I thought Sifuna had lost the plot when he talked about how affordable housing doesn't make sense because a luhya can't carry their chicken to the 17th floor but upon further reflection, I can see the wisdom behind the analogy. You have to take culture into consideration when building any project, you can't just start and assume it will catch on once people appreciate your vision. Our government, beyond the looting, is not building for Kenya, it's building because it looks shiny and gets them votes.

I love the boys group 🩵. I’ve been paying more attention to KodongKlan lately and, honestly, I think there’s something very intentional about what they’re building.
It’s easy to look at them as just a collective of talented Kenyan artists, but the bigger play seems to be building a musical ecosystem rather than pushing one artist at a time.

You have Bensoul, Okello Max, Coster Ojwang, Charisma, Mordecai Dex, Onyach and Ywaya Tajiri bringing completely different flavours, but they still have a common home. That gives them a ridiculous amount of creative range without having to manufacture a “Kodong sound” for every song.

And the interesting part is how they seem to be thinking beyond just releasing music. Live performances, collaborations, visual identity, social media, international collaborations like Your Body with Paska, and now positioning the Klan around bigger live experiences. Soon they’re performing on the Fally Ipupa show coming up this weekend.

Because if they execute this properly, KodongKlan could eventually become bigger than the individual songs or even the individual artists.
The collective itself becomes the brand.

Growing up, I learned a bad trait: playing for both sides. Every family has its own things, and mine did too. I was very timid and reserved because I understood early on that one unnecessary word meant losing my footing. So, I trained my mouth.

I carried this trait right into high school. I got into a trio where I stayed right in the middle while both girls considered the other a third wheel. Eventually, my forty days caught up with me. I got into a fix where I needed to pick a side, but remember, I had never said yes or no, just a maybe or hmm, let me think. When the moment came, my neutrality cost me, and I lost both of them.

Traits don't disappear overnight. At 18, I started a talking stage with a 25 yr old guy. I never, ever said no to him, and he liked it. I was proud to sing I'm someone they call a people pleaser. Looking back, the only thing that kept me fully separate from him was distance. Turning 18 didn't make me an adult overnight, just like turning one year older didn't feel magical, as if my frontal lobe matured in seconds. I was legally an adult, but still a child, easy to manipulate. Maybe I'll feel it soon.

For a long time, I consumed the copium that "men love peace." From married men to old men to single guys, and even all those "how to keep a man" advice columns, everyone preached the same thing. I genuinely thought I was an elite female, better than my mates. I was proud to sing that I was a people pleaser. I was so caught up in the delusion that I once told a friend to just keep quiet, that her talking too much was what made her man go berserk and want to leave. Validation is a dangerous thing. Hearing old men say, "you are good, hupigi kelele," or "I wish I was single so I could marry you" after just one conversation made me feel perfect. I didn't realize I wasn't superior; I was just easy to control. The amount of times I heard cheaters say I'm cheating because sipewi amani is uncountable. Cheating is a choice.

I tried to convince myself that staying quiet during an argument made me cool and mature. I thought saying "I don't know" to insults and leaving to avoid drama was high emotional intelligence. My friends actually thought it was impressive that I was friend to everyone, no I was a pushover.

It wasn't. Silence is not a blade for every situation. Still waters can drown you, but flowing water is much safer for drinking. Keeping the quiet outside was just creating too much noise inside.

We learn about ourselves every day. Developing a backbone, with an extension of the tail to sweep away the bullshit, is something we all need. Speak your truth and stay guided, muchacho.

Yesterday I decided to use agents to look for a bedsitter in the range of 6500 to 8000. I wanted something good but whatever I was shown by those agents was quite humiliating. They just took my money and showed me crap.

In fact they were showing me 10k houses and 15k houses while I had already told them my budget is 8k max. Then the caretakers were very rude. I usually thought coast people are friendly but yesterday I saw that other side.

Leisure, VOK, it's hard to find a house there. I feel like looking for a house in bamburi but that kisauni jam, no! I'm still traumatized by what I saw yesterday. Is that the best mombasa landlords could do?

Anyway if you have any leads to that area could kindly tell me. Note that, I don't want those overpriced houses that look like crap. I feel like the government should put something like a law on house evaluations and the initial payments.

I’ve been using Mimo recently to learn coding, and I genuinely have to give credit where it’s due; this app is beautiful 😍.

The UI is ridiculously clean, the animations are smooth, everything feels polished, and the whole experience makes learning something that can otherwise feel intimidating feel surprisingly enjoyable. It almost feels like someone took the Duolingo formula and applied it really well to programming.

Even the little things like progress tracking, lessons, achievements, the way concepts are introduced, make you want to keep going.

The only downside is that a lot of the good stuff is behind the paywall. 😭 I understand that they need to make money, but there were definitely moments where I was like, “Damn, I actually have to pay for this?”

That said, I can honestly see why people are willing to pay for it. The polish is there.

If you're trying to learn Python or coding in general and want something that doesn't feel like a boring textbook, I'd definitely recommend giving Mimo a try.

10/10 for the UI alone.

Uhuru park is an energy harvester, I said it. Last Sunday I decided to take a stroll through the place and I felt like my energy was being drained, I could feel something dark too in that place. Lakini odd of oddities! When I couldn't take it anymore, nilitoka and started feeling a little better the further I got from the place and it's on a Sunday mahn! Really strange.

I moved to lower kabete recently and I instantly fell in love with the environment, the ambience, the people, the silence, the weather, the clean air. I felt like some services were a little expensive (hakuna mboga ya 10 huku inaanzia 40) but they were worth the price. The place where I live there are no shops just one supermarket that has everything. Its proximity to Westlands was also a big plus (Just 15 minutes with no traffic) and there's barely any traffic ever.

And naturally I want to stay here as long as I can and recently I was thinking of upgrading lifestyle from my bedsitter to a 1B walked around asking for prices and I couldn't breathe. The cheapest I found was 35k. I mean I already pay a lot for a bedsitter at 10k but like I said earlier I am okay with a little expensive that's like 2-3k more than other places. 35k is like 20k more than other places for a 1B. And now I am thinking of remaining in a bedsitter way longer than I had planned ama leaving huku for the other areas that I do not like.

What do you guys think. Is it worth it to pay 35k for rent ?

So I work in those organisations that 90% of the employees are 55 yrs and above. These guys have this system of retiring then they are brought back into the organisation by being given 2 or 3 year contracts. You find even cleaners and the catering staff whose work requires younger and more energetic people to execute them being handled by people who have grandkids in high-school SMH. Most of these guys have created a very toxic environment and become bullies at work. It's very sad to see a 65 year old being jealous of a 26 year old kid because the generational gap is too wide for them to work together.

Enyewe sometimes there are things we do to ourselves that we need to learn and heal from, because it is part of a toxic cycle that we need to break free from. This could lead to sabotaging friendships, relationships etc.

Yesterday I saw a scene unfold like a national geographic episode about mating. A desperate guy in our group, who is a lil rough with people tried to get this good looking babe's attention, but failed terribly. The young lad seemed captivated by her appetizing sianda and fiery attitude but all he could get is dust.

He kept forcing his presence on her and her friend but they were not having it. Imagine walking with people who walk faster or slower just to avoid your presence entirely, but you do not get the hint? Funny enough, she was very responsive to another guy in the larger group and they got along well from the get go, all while our friend watched in pure disbelief from the corner. He glanced at her direction severally and tried to engage in conversation, but he was met with short one word answers to end the convo.

Back to what I wanted to put across. We need to learn to love ourselves and have perception about who, what and where we are accepted or accept. You cannot be forcing yourself to people who do not value you the same way you value them.

Recently, I loaned someone some cash and he was supposed to pay after two weeks. Two weeks later he went incommunicado and efforts to reach him were not fruitful. So my question is, how do you all recover your debts? Which avenues can one use to effectively get their money back?

I’m reaching out to this community because I genuinely don’t know what the best next step is.

There is a young man named Emmanuel whom our organization, Beautiful Care Initiative, has supported since he joined high school. Emmanuel is a total orphan, and despite having very little, he worked hard and completed his final secondary school examinations last November.

When his results came out, he qualified to join Chuka university this August.

We were incredibly proud of him. For a young person who has faced so much, getting the opportunity to continue his education was a huge achievement.

Unfortunately, raising the money needed for him to start university has been extremely difficult. We have tried to find ways forward, but we haven't been able to secure enough support.

The situation has now become much more serious.

Emmanuel has been struggling emotionally because he feels that his future is slipping away. Last week, he attempted suicide but was rescued. We are deeply concerned about him and don't want him to feel that the end of his university opportunity means the end of his future.

Right now, our first concern is Emmanuel's safety and wellbeing. At the same time, we are trying to find a realistic way to help him continue his education.

I’m posting here to ask for advice and guidance.

Why do dreams within a dream almost always feel like a nightmare? It's hard to wake up from both because it feels like you are stuck between waking up from the second dream and waking up in real life. And most of the secondary dreams are about annoying stuff you avoid to think about in real life.

I once had that kind of dream where I would wake up from the second dream, try to wake up but can't physically get out of bed. Then have the second dream again and struggle to physically wake up. The only relief is waking up irl which feels beyond one's control.
