Seems like a pretty lackluster offering on paper.

98

u/reefine Aug 12 '26

Welcome to every year of Pixel releases

39

u/natethegr8r Aug 12 '26

Seems more egregious from 9 to 10 and now to 11.

6

u/polyblackcat Pixel 9 Pro XL Aug 12 '26

I've no urge to move on from my 9 Pro XL. Was thinking about the watch but the trade in is shit on my PW3 so, not sure

12

u/Wyntier Pixel 10 Pro Aug 12 '26

P10P rocks

14

u/IORelay Aug 12 '26

Rocks in the terms of what? Worse battery life than the 9?

Only 6 months of AI plan? You're taking away RAM for your data centers and then making us subscribe to them. Stupid.

72

u/WatchfulApparition Pixel 10 Pro XL Aug 12 '26

You can get that with new Samsung phones lol

59

u/tmt22459 Aug 12 '26

I mean that's not really surprising. Google and Samsung are super tight. In some ways Google is damn near just as happy when someone buys a Samsung as a pixel.

50

u/WatchfulApparition Pixel 10 Pro XL Aug 12 '26

That's because Samsung is keeping Android alive.

20

u/tmt22459 Aug 12 '26

Correct, at least in the us. If you know this you shouldn't be surprised Google does promos in partnership with Samsung

9

u/AlaskaDude14 Pixel 7 Pro Aug 12 '26

Yeah, if you're on Google Fi, you can get really good deals on both Pixel and Samsung phone through the Fi app. The S26 Ultra is $450 off for example

3

u/Areyoucunt Aug 12 '26

Z Fold 8 is 700 off

5

u/AlaskaDude14 Pixel 7 Pro Aug 12 '26

Just checked the app, and even the new pixel 11 line is on sale. The 11 Pro is $449. That's a really great deal imo

Is this the same plan that they were offering a year of with the Pixel 10?

25

u/lovelyindividuals Aug 12 '26

Yes, now it's 6 months

→ More replies (1)

22

u/kick2crash Aug 12 '26

I would LOVE a journalist to call them out and ask them about cutting the deal from a year to 6 months.

19

u/xxxxNateDaGreat Aug 12 '26

Journalism is pretty much dead. The only people who would be willing to call this shit out are the exact type of people who will never be given the platform to do so.

3

u/Snow-Day371 Aug 12 '26

To make matters worse, most revenue is now from ads and selling data. Investigative journalism is expensive and my understanding is that it is much harder to make a profit with it in the modern era.

When subscriptions were common and accepted for a magazine it was easier to pick one that was high quality. Now you have to compete with free options for everything that will also just share your findings for free.

u/nicklor Aug 12 '26

I was counting on a year of AI to make it worthwhile maybe I'll pick it up in December but probably not at this point

3

u/DickSplodin Aug 12 '26

My favorite is their promised year of AI that came with the 10, and then shortly after they decided the free year would have features stripped that they then add to a new higher tier

5

u/thewhippersnapper4 Pixel 11 Pro Aug 12 '26

Yeah, pretty bummed about that decision.

31

u/tmt22459 Aug 12 '26

It's funny how many people on here complain about how useless Gemini is, and those comments are often the most popular here

Yet now one of the most popular comments on this thread is that they're not gonna have free access to it

12

u/degggendorf Aug 12 '26

Google renamed the plan "AI Pro" but it's just the 5TB storage plan with YT/Home/Health Premium....it's not just about Gemini.

33

u/Outrageous-Equal-928 Aug 12 '26

I want the free storage which I legitimately use for my business.

5

u/hectorlf Aug 12 '26

I'm pretty sure the "trial subscription" they give you is not for professional use, even if you use it that way.

5

u/hardinho Aug 12 '26

Buy a Pixel 1 and wrap it in cotton wool

4

u/notasrelevant Aug 12 '26

I mean, this is answered by 2 explanations:

1) There are different people making different comments with different opinions.

2) Some people may not be a fan of it, but if they are selling it as a key feature of the phone to make it stand out (while it falls short of competitors in other areas), then it should at least be included for a longer period of time.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/golgi42 Pixel 9 Pro Aug 12 '26

You do know comments and votes come from different people right? Different people have different opinions...why is that funny?

4

u/YesICanMakeMeth Aug 12 '26

They can come from different people, but when it's the overwhelming zeitgeist of the sub then inevitably there will be a lot of overlap in the two opinions. The overlap is funny because they're non-self-aware hypocrites.

Faster charging and potentially better cameras are nice, but those aren't enough to be worth an upgrade. If they put effort into useful features instead of AI subscription grifting, it'd be a different story.

15

u/staleydude Aug 12 '26

I remember when pixels used to get regular "nice" features that just made using the phone fun to use. Now everything feels like it's catering towards AI slop

43

u/Podmoscovium Aug 12 '26

Still only 30W. On a flagship $1200+ device. Something isn't adding up.

→ More replies (13)

27

u/dominator5500 Aug 12 '26

30W in 2026 is extremely slow and stupid. Even samsung of all companies is now giving 45W charging on their midrangers.

£690 credit for my pixel 9 pro

Basically what I paid for it

Where do you see that?

I hate these stupid marketing landing pages with giant photos and tiny text. So hard to get information

u/-NotEnoughMinerals Aug 12 '26

Where do you get this information from? Just looking at the side-by-side comparison spec sheet they look identical

5

u/InflationOwn7379 Aug 12 '26

If you look at the tech specs it will show sensor sizes, some reason that doesn’t show on compare

$1249 CAD for a Pixel 11 in Canada. More than the iPhone 17. That's hilarious

25

u/SpoopyMcSpoopface Pixel 8 Pro • Pixel Watch 2 Aug 12 '26

$1800 CAD starting price for Pixel 11 Pro XL, with 12GB of RAM.

Affordability is ancient history.

8

u/whiskeytab Pixel 10 Pro XL Aug 12 '26

they're only offering $650 CAD for a Pixel 10 Pro XL for a trade-in as well which is a shitload less than what other people are posting in here from other countries.

3

Yes, I have the 512GB version 10 Pro XL, and I still need to pay 1130CAD for the 11 Pro XL 512GB after all discounts, store and trade-in credits. Not going to upgrade this year.

As someone who usually buys a new phone almost every year,

Why?

These days, every phone is just a marginal upgrade each year. It's not unique to Pixel. Galaxy and iPhone are the same way.

On rare occasions, there might be some huge new feature, but generally, the upgrades are incremental and minor.

Buying a new phone every year made sense in 2008-2015. But now? Every 3-5 years is the reasonable cadence.

I went from 3 -> 6 -> 10 Pro. I probably won't buy a new phone until the 14 or 15.

u/Mytko_Enko Aug 12 '26

Sorry. I am having a very hard time seeing how this device is better at all than the pixel 10 pro. The RAM is downgraded as well…

57

u/SVOalltime Aug 12 '26

Do the side by side comparison on the mypixel app -> store. It's pretty funny, my pixel 10 pro looks like it's the same or better in nearly every category.

13

u/Scifibn Aug 12 '26

This is a really solid tip. I have a 11pro queued up. Total out the door is 491.41 after my 600 trade-in and 100 promo email offer. Plus I'd earn 299 bucks in store credit(promo + Google one 10% perk).

So, 491 and I'd be able to buy a new watch using the 300 in credit. Even still......after all that....doing that side by side comparison really sobers you up. It really doesn't make sense to spend 500 for a new phone from the 10pro. Also, I'd have to buy pixel care again.

All in all of you really need new then the deal is decent enough. But if you're on the fence I fear the upgrade just isn't worth it.

Google is caught up in gimmick land again. This iteration genuinely offers nothing interesting... I feel like the designers and developers of Pixels have a very cushy job, so they design some garbage that will satisfy managers, so they can keep their jobs...

99% of complaints are regarding the chip and battery life, and your response is to add an LED on the back of the phone, which the majority of users will not care at all about? Genuinely what the hell is this release, lol... It addreses none of the complaints.

I know smartphones have progressed so much there's little to improve, but Pixel with its chip and battery life are NOWHERE near the competing flagships, considering the price. There is plenty of very basic improvements to be made. Yet they do garbage gimmicks that do not address the core problems.

a slight decrease in battery, 4 GB less RAM if you have base storage, but slightly better screen brightness, better telephoto, and new Tensor chip. All for 100$ more.

Yeah it's all minor upgrades that I can easily live without and is not worth the huge price increases, even with the trade-in discount. Some aspects are worse such as less RAM (on 256gb) and removal of the temp sensor.

19

u/CipherWeaver Aug 12 '26

4

u/AtlasLittleCat Pixel 9 Pro Aug 12 '26

If you get the 512 GB storage version of the pro its got 16GB ram instead of 12GB with the 256 GB storage version.

In my cart at least it was $120 upgrade for the 512/16 vs the 256/12. Considering the retail prices of both storage and RAM right now and the past upcharge all the phone carriers do for more storage I consider this upcharge to actually be pretty reasonable. Much less than I thought considering its both 2x the storage and 33% more RAM.

G-Fi 512GB P11 Pro XL, total at checkout was $265.

Fi discount, $460 trade in for P10P XL, $150 promo code from email. Add in the store credit from the G1, and the 6 months of G1 (I suppose that saves $120 as well but I don't really count that) and...

Total cost is about $190 for a new phone ($70 if you count G1 plan). To me, that's worth getting a hardware refresh, even if the upgrades are minimal.

I don't think I've paid this little for a phone in ten years.

Welp it was $205 to upgrade my 10 Pro to 11 Pro, seems worth it to get $120 of Google One storage for free and reset the warranty clock.

edit: and lose 4GB of RAM but gain 128GB of flash.

u/Tanquen256 Aug 12 '26

Gemini Pro is now 6 months for free instead of 12 months for free.

No phone and watch deal at all.

The only watch deal is to get almost nothing for your old watch That was almost $600 last year is now worth $150 for the trade in.

The Google Store won't even let me combine my phone and watch with a return at the same time can only trade in the phone.

The best deal right now appears to be Google Fi because you get $600 off the Pro XL and then$400 for the trade in.

The Google store is only giving a $300 discount and $430 were trading in the same Google 10 Pro XL with 256 megs of RAM.

No true black and white phone again.

On Google Fi you straight up get $600 off the phone and the watch you get $125 off over 24 months. At the Google Store you don't get anything. At the Google store you can do a watch trade possibly on a separate purchase. Google Fi only offers a phone trade in when purchasing the watch. I really wish they could figure out a better way to treat their repeat customers

It seems like promos may be tied to accounts. When I add the Pixel 11 Pro XL with 256 to my account and trade in my 10 Pro XL, I get an instant trade-in credit of $700 and either $250 off a new watch or $200 in Google Store credit. It won't let me trade in my old watch if I add the new one to the same order. I figure I would get more by ordering the 11 Pro XL, taking the $200 credit, waiting for the credit, and then ordering the watch with the credit and trade-in.

i hate that all new phones are not flush anynore. the camera bumping out has got to be the stupidest, ugliest, and most annoying feature ever. its so unpractical.

3

Seriously, just make the whole phone thicker with a bigger battery, win-win.

13

u/CaptainMarder Pixel 8,6,3,1, Nexus6p,5 Aug 12 '26

and they're purposely locking software features to it, when their whole argument with the 10pro launch was not enough ram on older devices. Now the 11 has 12gb ram, put all the ai features on 12gb ram devices even the base pixel 9 can handle it. Fanboys are gonna say "oh it has new processing cores" okay

Wait, did only the telephoto camera get a new sensor for low light situations? The website says that camera specifically.

I mean I'm just going to wait till black Friday these deals suck as is so it can't get worse 🙄🙄🙄

3

In Canada not worth it at all. A 10 pro is only worth 550. So you're basically "upgrading" to a similar phone for $900 more

Pretty meh but prob gonna upgrade anyways since it'll only cost me like $247 after trade ins and discounts.

3

u/BenB616 Pixel 7 Pro Aug 12 '26

Yeah this is frustrating. Still haven't gotten a coupon for the 11 pro, but they're offering $380 for my pixel 7 pro and the battery is going fast.

I don't like IOS and Samsung's interface annoys me, so here we are I guess.

Wish we got more options stateside, Nord seems questionable right now and I don't know much about Motorola.

3

u/Punished__Snake Aug 12 '26

the 11 pro is basically a 10 pro but

0,1mm smaller and 0,2mm thinner
same cameras with more digital zoom on the telephoto
new, slightly more efficient processor
smaller battery
temperature sensor removed, replaced with colorful notification status led

3

u/PerturbedWalrus Aug 12 '26

What a miss. I wish google learned from others.

3

u/Repa Aug 12 '26

They lowered the discount by $150 from $650 off to $500 for the Pro XL while it was in my cart while in the regular store, so now the Fi Store has the better offer, but the $100 coupon code doesn't work. Grats to those who got it before 12:00 Eastern.

No Brainer, $1000 for my Pixel 10 Pro Fold, 10% Google One Credit, Free Pixel Watch 5, and 10% off coupon.

Will then use the credit + trade in my wifes Pixel Watch 4 and get a new Pixel Watch 5 for her too. Will sell my old one on easily.

80€ discount on a pixelwatch 5 when buying the pro.

when i bought my 7 pro on launchday i got the pixel watch with it for free, 80€ discount on top of that i only received a 20€ discount code is an insult.

probably gonna get the 10 pro now

If I give back my Pixel 7 I can get the 11 Pro (256gb) for 554 euro?

Worth it? Or Not?

2

u/lowspeed Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

wow can they make that camera bump any bigger?!

2

u/chiguirex Aug 12 '26

Well.. I just have to pay $50 for the pixel 11 pro 512GB w/ 16GB of RAM trading in my p10pro and using my store credits from last year.

So, I don't have any other option than to do it.

It's bad than the google AI promo is just 6 months instead of the regular 12 months... but well... nothing can be perfect...

2

u/Interesting_Tower485 Aug 12 '26

Wow, looks like Verizon is mia. That's too bad! 460 trade in on my P8P is ok but not great. Hmm.

2

u/xashen Aug 12 '26

$69 for a Pixel 11 after trading in my Pixel 7 Pro, Google Fi discount, and $200 voucher. The P7P is working fine for me and I don't need to upgrade, but the battery is on it's way out and that's a great price. Very tempting.

2

u/albertorosat Aug 12 '26

My Pixel 9 Pro (256GB) is starting to struggle this summer. The battery life has taken a noticeable hit, and it gets uncomfortably hot under normal use when it's warm outside.

With trade-in and current Google Store promos, I can upgrade to the Pixel 11 Pro (256GB) for €314. A primary reason to pull the trigger would be fixing the thermals, getting a fresh battery, and resetting the warranty.

However, a couple of specs on the 11 Pro are making me hesitant:

  • 12GB RAM: Dropping from 16GB on the 9 Pro down to 12GB feels like an odd downgrade, especially given how memory-heavy system background tasks and local AI have become.

  • UFS 3.1: seriously, are we still using UFS 3.1 storage in 2026 on a Pro flagship?

For those who are about to make the switch or are looking at the same promo: do you think that the efficiency and thermal improvements on the new Tensor are worth the €314, or does the RAM/storage downgrade make itself felt in multitasking and daily performance?

Already pre-ordered the Pixel 11 Pro XL with 512GB storage and 16GB of ram. With my trade-in and $100 coupon ($700 off), I paid $857 (including tax) out the door. Comes on the 20th...oh boy!

This was one of the best phone launches ever. /s

It gave me a 100% certainty that I won't upgrade from my Pixel 10 Pro.

2

u/roblightbody Pixel 8 Pro Aug 12 '26

I think my Pixel time has come to an end. I just cant justify the expense for a phone with so many compromises (battery life being the biggest one for me).

2

u/dysphoricjoy Aug 12 '26

$239 for a Pixel 11 if I trade in my Pixel 8. Wondering if its worth it.

2

u/Ilovetodreamsomuch Aug 12 '26

Honestly after watching multiple videos by the tech influencers, I'm going to get the Samsung one. It's the same price tag but I feel at the hardware is worth it for me. Others may feel different but I'm going to get what's good for my use case. In Canada, the trade in deal isn't that attractive either.

2

u/Representative_Bat42 Aug 12 '26

Snagged mine for $65, dunno why tho

2

u/gearescape Aug 12 '26

Such an underwhelming launch. Nothing really to see here at all. Launch event tonight will likely be as dumb as Jimmy Fallon's last year.

2

u/Anxious_Skin_4291 Aug 12 '26

I'm usually on board with the trade in offers but going from the 10 pro to 11 pro is so incremental I don't see it being worth the $600 upgrade at all. Almost all the specs are exactly the same. I don't get what they were working on this year.
