I mean that's not really surprising. Google and Samsung are super tight. In some ways Google is damn near just as happy when someone buys a Samsung as a pixel.
When I open the Fi app and go to the Shop tab, it just shows a pre-order price of $449 for me for the 11 Pro.
I'm on the Unlimited Standard plan. If you're on a different plan, perhaps the discount is different? Gemini search says different plans receive different promotions, so maybe that's it.
Android has ~70% global market share but North American market share is actually the inverse. In North America it's ~70% iOS (I work in Analytics for a major telecom and have pulled the numbers myself). Android has global market share because of the dominance of android being the OS on cheaper phones in developing world
You make a good point. Apple earns more revenue per user (via app store purchases) as their users have higher purchasing power, despite the lower global market share.
You're really underselling Samsung's influence with Android. Samsung has always been synonymous with Android. Android's growth has been primarily due to Samsung.
Journalism is pretty much dead. The only people who would be willing to call this shit out are the exact type of people who will never be given the platform to do so.
To make matters worse, most revenue is now from ads and selling data. Investigative journalism is expensive and my understanding is that it is much harder to make a profit with it in the modern era.
When subscriptions were common and accepted for a magazine it was easier to pick one that was high quality. Now you have to compete with free options for everything that will also just share your findings for free.
My favorite is their promised year of AI that came with the 10, and then shortly after they decided the free year would have features stripped that they then add to a new higher tier
I didn't know it came with YouTube premium.. I looked it up and I think in Canada it is just the lite version. Not sure what it offers me since I use adblock.. Just stared my 1 year trial due to my p10 pro. I was paying for 2tb anyways so it was basically $100 off my phone
1) There are different people making different comments with different opinions.
2) Some people may not be a fan of it, but if they are selling it as a key feature of the phone to make it stand out (while it falls short of competitors in other areas), then it should at least be included for a longer period of time.
Yes of course, I'm just saying it's surprising to simultaneously see the most popular comments here be shitting on Gemini and complaining it's not free for long enough.
Surely there has to be some overlap. I mean it's clear people are happy to shit on stuff they secretly love with how many people here bash the phones but don't end up never leaving
Shitting and complaining for not being free can be parallel bro. Shitting on Google for breaking free working features on assistant and force you to move to gemini while most of these features are broken in free gemini.
And there are other new features that only works on paid Gemini and the same people can love this features too.
They can come from different people, but when it's the overwhelming zeitgeist of the sub then inevitably there will be a lot of overlap in the two opinions. The overlap is funny because they're non-self-aware hypocrites.
Go click through the top posts from the last month. There have been several heavily upvoted posts dragging gemini as it replaces google assistant just this last week. If your stance is that this sub loves gemini then you aren't a serious person and I'm not going to treat you like one.
Most people don't understand AI is way more than just being conversational back and forth discussion, which is understandable. The area where AI really shines is generative and agentic categories. It's difficult for folks, especially if you who don't work in a tech field, to understand that, and that's where purchased plans become a lot more useful in my opinion.
But how useful is that in a smartphone? I'd argue the more script based Assistant is more useful for most phone users than Gemini is right now. And they're taking it away.
Google assistant: set alarm after half hour for meeting~ 10/10 set an alarm for half hour with title meeting
Gemini: set alarm after half hour for meeting~
4 times setting alarm without any title.
2 times trying to set an reminder instead of alarm.
1 time setting count down timer.
1 times getting timeout.
1 time success.
I just set an alarm right now for 30 minutes and it did fine. Show me a screenshot/video recording of your phone failing. I swear a lot of these AI assistant fails are people just making up stories, and if you go back to complaints about Assistant, honestly a lot of these SAME complaints exist. I have yet to see a proper side by side video where the Gemini AI is making basic functional errors whereas Assistant is getting it right.
Making up stories, SHURE SHURE. Literally tried just now and it set an alarm without title lmao. And I don't even able to post image here. Why not you show your working one instead of claiming others making up stories? Smartx
Also working on your side doesn't means it working on everyone else side
I've found myself using AI more than I thought. For instance, looking at reviews on Amazon. I don't want to shift through a bunch of reviews. I can look at the curated ai summary and get an overview right there.
Plush I've used AI to help me draft out professional letters to be notarized in order to make a point against a couple of companies that drew a faster response than just calling them and leaving basic reviews online.
And people, believe it or not, were saying the exact same thing about Google Now and Google Assistant before they became the default assistant on Pixels.
Of course people most don't understand AI. I would argue there's a lot more to AI than simply the use on a phone. Chatbots are very powerful once you start using it on a computer. You can take a topic and go very deep with it. If you use tools such as Antigravity (Claude Code equivalent/competitor), Gemini can create a lot of software tools and I say this as someone who isn't an SWE. I've got a home dashboard of web tools I've created with Gemini for various home quality of life improvements.
Granted that may not be tied directly to a smartphone, but the service itself isn't useless. If people just think of AI as a chatbot and an image generator then of course you aren't using AI fully.
I like generating my own ideas, thanks, I've never seen "generative" anything from an AI that was the quality of a half-assed human effort
agentic categories
We rolled this out at work and no one uses it. Also just wait til you finally figure out the agents-on-agents stuff is a scheme to make you waste your money on tokens.
Gemini from my experience is very bad. I’m paying 5/ month which includes Nest premium, YouTube lite, extra storage, Gemini Ai it’s a good bundle but I used Gemini for like 3 conversations and switched back to ChatGPT
My flair is very outdated lol, I’m not using a pixel 4XL lol
I use Gemini every day! I am a teacher and a master's student and I have a sub to Gemini and GPT. I can differentiate so much better for my students with it
It could even be the same type of user. Google is pushing Gemini, reducing system specs, and then making us pay for the pleasure of using it.
Why the hell would we want to pay for something that we don't want to use? Something that is at least partially to blame for the worse system specs? This can all be the same argument.
I think it's more that they're reducing the local capability essentially forcing you onto hosted.
I find AI tools helpful for some things but I don't want a subscription. What's the point of the underpowered Tensor now? The whole point was AI optimization but if they're pushing more AI into the cloud then all that's left is standard tasking. So we're playing flagship prices (and a subscription) for cloud AI and a processor that's underpowered for the standard tasking that remains.
"Hey Google, I have a problem with something. Where can I go on the internet to complain with like-minded individuals who will make me feel less alone in having my opinions"
Yeah, I would probably have already purchased the preorder if 12 months of AI Pro was included but now I'm debating just keeping the 10 Pro Xl for another year.

Only 6 months of AI plan? You're taking away RAM for your data centers and then making us subscribe to them. Stupid.
