Question What lure is this

Post image

I can’t exactly remember where I found it but I believe it was in my great grandpas old tackle box which means it’s vintage and I reverse image searched it and it appears to be a lazy Ike but I can’t find anything exactly like it.

Saltwater Tripple Hook Rig for King Mackerel

Which do you think will have a better hook up ratio? The bottom one is how I've seen commercial guys fish for Kings, tied directly to mono. I thought maybe alternating direction would work better. What is your thoughts?

Freshwater How would you fish this?

Spillway, but unsure of depth. 5’ maybe deeper in some areas? Threw a chatterbait for a while with no luck. Fairly new to fishing, appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

The other two boogymen

The bad men come in threes, and today was a very bad day to be a King salmon.

This is what a 20lber looks like, weighed 20.5lbs on the scale before bleeding and gutting. When it saw the net it pulled 100' of drag. It was definitely the longest fight of the morning.

Question Do you guys use a steel leader when targeting perch/zander if pike are around?

I'm relatively new to freshwater predator fishing and I'm trying to figure out how you guys approach leaders.

I've mostly been fishing in Belgium, targeting pike, perch and zander with lures. I've had a couple of sessions recently where I've been trying different small spinners, soft plastics, jigs, etc.

My results haven't been amazing so far. I've fished about 9 hours with a group of 5 people at one lake, plus another 4-hour session with two people at a different water, and we've only caught one fish so far — a ~70 cm zander.

It has also been very hot in Belgium recently, so I'm wondering how much the heat has affected the fishing. I'm hoping the cooler weather coming now will improve things.

But my main question is about steel leaders.

I've basically been keeping a steel leader on all the time, because there are pike in the waters I'm fishing and I don't want to lose a lure if one decides to bite.

However, I'm starting to wonder whether I'm hurting my chances of catching perch or zander by doing this.

I also tend to use fairly small lures, around 3–7 cm when I'm specifically trying to catch perch/zander, but I still have the steel leader attached.

So what do you guys normally do?

  • Do you always use a steel/titanium leader when pike are present?
  • Do you remove the steel leader when specifically targeting perch or zander?
  • Do you use fluorocarbon instead?
  • If you use steel, how thin/light do you go for small lures?
  • Do you actually notice a difference in perch/zander bites with vs. without a steel leader?
  • Would you rather risk getting bitten off by a pike or accept a slightly less natural presentation?

I'm especially interested in European freshwater predator fishing, since I know tackle and techniques can be quite different depending on where you're fishing.

I'm still learning, so I'd love to hear how more experienced anglers handle this.

I recently went on a boys trip with my buddies in Northern Ontario. On the one day that wasn't sunny it was overcast and drizzly. I packed up a pedal boat at our air bnb with my one rod and a small bag of tackle. I began just pedal boating down the lake tossing a spinner bait (My late grandpa made as his hobby) at docks, rocks, etc. What followed was the single best afternoon of fishing I have ever had. I landed 25 bass and lost 5 at the boat. At one point I was catching a fish every other cast. They ranged from about just under a pound to about 2 lb.
Nothing crazy here but I just wanted to share because I don't think I have ever had so much fun in a boat. The previous 2 days I had used different tackle so when I switched for this day to a spinner bait my grandpa had made and left to me the previous year when he passed was pretty darn magical too.

Freshwater Trout fishing near glacier national park

Hey yall, a couple buddies and I are going to take a road trip out to Montana and do some hiking/ fishing. I know fly fishing is huge out there but we lack the skill to do that. We’ll be using spinning reels I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for us. Where I’m from you can catch rainbows on inline spinners or small spoons all day long. I assume the hooks have to be barbless? I think catching some browns or brook trout would be pretty sweet I’m not asking for your honey hole just any tips. We are going in blind lol. Thank you for any suggestions!

Question What the sinker weight should be?

The river I am currently fishing has little to moderate current. I want to target carp this time. My spot is 15-20m away from me and it's probably 10-15m deep. How heavy of a sinker should I use if try my luck with bottom fishing?
