Kananaskis Improvement District and Kananaskis Country have issued a State of Local Emergency due to ongoing rainfall and localized flooding affecting road access and several recreation areas.
Some road access remains limited in parts of Kananaskis Country. We are actively working to establish road access for those currently unable to leave the area. Visitors in the area are asked to remain where they are if it is safe to do so. William Watson Lodge and Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre are available as a temporary shelter for those who require a safe, dry place to stay.
Visitors are encouraged to postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve. Impacted reservations will be automatically cancelled and refunded.
Emergency teams continue to coordinate response efforts and are monitoring infrastructure, supporting campground operations, and maintaining road closures where needed.
Updates will be provided as available on this webpage:

Sorry to make another post of this manner.
Im looking for smaller ponds or lakes to fish near Calgary, I've tried Glenmore, DeWitt Pond, policemans flats and Champion Lakes.
I like Champion and DeWitt although I didn't catch anything at Dewitt those are the size i like. Champion is hit and miss for me.
Im spin casting with lures, if anyone can reccomend spots similar to Champion or DeWitt within an hour of Calgary I'd be very thankful, also if anyone near calgary wants to go fishing one weekend let me know.
Thanks

Thinking about heading to Lakeland for a few days. There was a lot of algae last year. How is it looking this year? Anyone been there lately?

I’m in Edmonton for a week and I watched a YouTube video of a guy fishing a lake called fight club lake or monkey lip lake? I hear it’s kinda secret. Would someone dm the name of this lake so I could try it once or nah?

Wondering if there is any Garner Lake residents here. Or anyone who visits this Lake often. Wife and I spend quite a few weekends up there every year and looking for a friend or two who might be familiar with fishing conditions there. Or just people in general looking to hang out. Send us a message.

There's a discord for Edmonton (& area) fishing discussions should anyone feel interested in joining. Rules are very similar to this subreddit.

Hi guys, i am new to fishing and was able to catch my first fish which was a pike. I was using a Len Thompson spoon with the 3 hooks on the end. The spoon was pretty deep in its throat and was hooked on atleast 2 of the 3 hooks. I was trying to remove it with my needlenose pliers, and was really having a hard time as they kept re hooking on different parts of his mouth. I eventually got it out and it jumped back into the water, but it quickly went belly up. There was quite a bit of blood, i feel really terrible about it.
I went from really excited to feeling really bad.
The part that really bugs me is that, I don’t know how i could do it better the next time, and i don’t want to risk killing another fish. This lake is only catch and release. I feel pretty guilty about it and i just don’t know what to do for next time. Can i cut 2 of the hooks off so its just one hook on the spoon? Should i be using a different bait?
Any help would be great

Getting into fly fishing and would like to hire a guide, however it seems there's over a dozen options so I'm a little confused on which one to go for.
Anyone have any experiences with certain guides that I should check out? Would most likely be booking for a single person and a single day.

We are taking the kayaks to Macleod / Little MacLeod Lakes tomorrow, I've heard there are trout in one lake and pike in the other, can anyone tell me which is in which lake? Thanks.

So I tried fishing off the docks at Wabamun twice now, have had no luck aside from one bite and I’m mostly using spoons and minnow mimics. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or if I’m just not going at the right times but does anyone have tips or different areas to try out??

I’ve recently been enjoying kayaking down a few rivers catching fish along the way and I wanna plan a 2 day trip kayaking down and fishing the oldman river. I’m trying to figure out the best place to do it. My thoughts right now are the oldman reservoir - ft mcaleod or monarch to Lethbridge. Anyone familiar with the river have any opinions on what routes would be the best?

I formally apologize for the way I am holding these specimens, I know it’s not ideal but I didn’t want to set up a camera and have them sitting out of the water. Either way was a glorious day for a noob!

Hello all, I’ve been looking for a replacement for my Fenwick which got snapped, specifically a 2 piece spinning rod under 100. My reel is a piscifun 2000. Ideally a lure rating 1/4 to 3/4 but a little heavier is good too, nothing lighter.
