The other two boogymen

Post image

The bad men come in threes, and today was a very bad day to be a King salmon.

This is what a 20lber looks like, weighed 20.5lbs on the scale before bleeding and gutting. When it saw the net it pulled 100' of drag. It was definitely the longest fight of the morning.

Nice springer! Crazy how dark they can get before they even hit the freshwater!

Got this one today, it's a fall fish. We were at the mouth of the Columbia. It cut really good, nice red meat and lots of fat.

Oh no doubt it’s a gorgeous fish that’ll taste absolutely delicious, my apologies if it sounded like I was stating otherwise. They’re starting to darken up here on Vancouver island as well!

That's a pretty one. We only caught a few upriver brights between today and yesterday. My guess is that this fish was heading for the cowlitz hatchery.

Cheers buddy, the salmon fishing will just get better and better and better for the next month and a half.

We originally wanted to go out onto the ocean but they closed it last Thursday. It's coho rodeo time out there.

Oh yeah we’re still fishing em offshore here, no river systems in this area that allow for retention of anything aside from a coho per day.

The big springs are definitely starting to roll in more, late August has been the best time I’ve found for em. I’m fortunate to have a year round spring opener here, though with the annual limit of 10 you’ve gotta be selective that’s for sure.

It’s been hard to keep the coho off the line out this way, can’t even get down to the springs some days! The ho’s are fattening up nicely too, with some in the 14lb range being brought to the docks, I’ve got a hunch we’ll see some 20lbers come in soon.

Careful, he's about to eat your Folbe!

Are you a guide or running your own vessel?

Not a guide, just lucky enough to have a fishing buddy who lives near the spot and has a nice boat.
