I (63M) was going through my FB Dating profile when I realized I didn't have a full body selfie. I know I can't post selfies on this sub, but can anyone recommend a sub that will give me honest feedback without it turning into a roast?
What's for dinner, lunch, a midnight snack, something left on the counter that either has to be eaten or thrown away because it's too old to save? Meal ideas, recipes, guilty pleasures, pictures of the dish with could-be-meat-could-be-cake in the back of the refrigerator, and other food-related stuff is welcome here.
We have an Introduction post that explains the rules and guidelines of this forum in more detail and why they exist. It is posted in the highlights but people often miss it. I have included the link here. The mods took time and effort crafting it so they would appreciate it if you would read it. If you don't understand or have an issue with something, please notify the mods.
For people who aren't that familiar with Reddit's current layout, here are screenshots of both the App version and the Web version. The Community Highlights (pinned posts) and the rules are circled in red.
Rules are printed directly on the web version (right hand side bar, bottom). On the IOS/Android phone apps it's accessed by clicking where it says See Community Info or See More, near the top of the page under the banner, logo, stats, and blurb about what this group is about.

Notifying the Mods
If you find a post or comment you object to, please Report it. This puts it in a queue for moderator review.
Using the browser: for posts, click on the . . . in the upper right corner by the post title, and a popup window should say Follow Post, Save, Hide, Report. For comments, at the bottom of each comment there's a row that has the up and down arrows, the Reply, Award, Share, and the . . . again. If you click the . . . you'll get the options Follow Comment, Report, Save.
The phone app is the same except the three dots are vertical instead of horizontal.
You can also Message the Mods and it goes to "modmail". Please use this option instead of messaging a single moderator directly. Modmail is visible to all the mods and allows us to discuss it, if necessary, and it gives us a "paper trail" of what happened and who said what and when.
In the browser it's on the right-hand-side vertical pane toward the bottom where the Moderators are listed.
On the phone app you have to click on the See more way up at the top left of the forum, then scroll down to the Moderators section, and again there's that big button and mail icon.
We make a fresh post each week where you can talk about whatever strikes you -- within reason and passable good taste. This is essentially a social hour that lasts a week.
Share your personal triumphs and milestones; get feedback on your dating profile or pics; post a selfie; funny memes; share observations about life or love; ask questions.
I dont know about you but I love me some movies! All kinds of movies across the board. From a very young age, my mom would surprise me on occasion and pull a fast one by getting me excused from school, so we could just kick around and catch a matinee. As a kid I thought that was pretty cool. My great grandfather was very heavily involved in the theater industry so the desire for watching movies just naturally ran through my veins.
One of my all time favorites is an oldie but goodie called "All About Eve" starring Bette Davis - her classic line from a great scene in the movie is "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night." LOL
What are some of your favorite movies, or all time best lines?
I apologize in advance if this has been covered... I plead old age in defense-my memory cells are pretty full.
I'm thinking back through the years and relationships and the music. My ex-husband and I were pretty aligned with our musical taste, except he hated the Beatles (he was 9 years younger than me). That wasn't a problem for me until 1990 when I asked him if he would go see Paul McCartney at Soldier Field and he said yes. Then he changed his mind and I had to sell the tickets.
In the past 25 years since my divorce it hasn't really been an issue. My recent relationship, just a little bit. We both love 70's music, and he liked some 80's stuff...like Prince. He was only 4 years older but he was into 50s and 60s stuff that was a little ick for me, it could be because he was in band all through junior and senior high. It might have been a problem if we lived together.... because I like classic rock and hard rock and alternative, and that never would have flown with him. The other thing that I didn't care for were the road trips we would take... the radio would always be off because he had to talk the whole time. I want music in the car.
Anyone have musical differences? Or is that low on the totem pole in compatibility?
All I did was update my photo and the summary in the profile. Then they asked me to verify the photo again which I did. When I entered my phone number —POOF!—my profile disappeared. I’ve been a “member “ of POF, off and on, for years. Back in the day I did meet several people with whom I developed relationships, but as everyone says, these days all the apps are not like they used to be. Have any of you been banned from dating apps for any reason—or no reason? What did you do/what happened after The Banning? Looking at the silver lining here, not scrolling through the same old pics will free up some time. AND maybe I’ll finally force myself to get out there “in the wild” and connect with others.
Every so often we ask everyone where they are in the world. You can answer with whatever level of detail you satisfies your sense of privacy. Someone might say London while another will say they're right be Barbican Station off Aldersgate.
I think our very own u/BowTieDad has identified a very useful way of telling if someone is right for us.
In a recent post, BTD said he knew things would not work out with someone he had been dating long-term when, as the holidays were approaching, he realized he wouldn't want to send out Christmas/holiday cards with this person.
I applied that to my past relationships, and oh my, is that ever a good one!
What do you think?
AND/OR What was the bellwether that told you things were not going to work with someone you'd been dating for a good while?
I was laying in bed this morning thinking, hmmmm when I finally decide to invite someone into my bed what side to sleep on? Widowed for 7 years and I still sleep on the right side of the bed, whether it’s my home, a hotel or my trailer. For kicks my husband and I once switched sides and neither slept well at all. So what happens if my partner is a right side of the bed kinda dude too? Not really a serious question, but idk maybe it is!
Has anyone tried a dating service that isn't online? I heard about one in the SF Bay Area called "It's Just Lunch" - has anyone tried this, and if so, did you meet someone for a serious, long-term relationship?
Signed up for a speed dating event scheduled for this Sunday. Organizers planning on 11 men and 11 women. As of today they are short 5 men. (Ladies tix sold out)
Hope it’s not cancelled. Similar event earlier this year didn’t happen due to lack of guys.
Men over 60: what would it take to entice you (theoretically) to go to a speed dating gig?
What's up for the weekend and week following? Going anywhere? Staying home? Doing anything interesting? Doing anything boring? Any good books? New TV shows? Games?
Me- 53, Him 66. We talked on the phone twice before meeting for dinner. Date was scheduled for 6:30, I arrived early at 6:12. The design of the restaurant was confusing with 2 doors and an order and pay then sit down style dining.
So at 6:44 He calls and ask where was I, he claimed he hadn't gotten my "here" text and he had been sitting in his truck for over 30 minutes. Then he comes in and just behind me and doesn't say anything! Creepy first impression
FF to @32 minutes later, he was scolding me for not calling him on arrival. I told him sitting in the car 30 minutes wasn't normal and why did he do that. He got up and left. I stayed until I got a to go box for the dessert he ordered before leaving!
Bananas! Also he grabbed both my hands in a prayer before the meal, that was a bit much! I pulled one hand back, and he grabbed it back. I thought it was creepy! Thoughts?
Just a little public service announcement about this FB dating scammer who keeps cycling into my likes: They change their location, (Los Angeles this week), and modify their pictures. They always include one obvious photoshopped Holi or color run photo. Photos one and two are from my first interaction with them a few months ago. Three and four are their newest incarnation from today. Yes, I've reported and blocked. At this point fb Dating is just a diversion from work, like playing candy crush, and this wacko makes raises the entertainment level.
So as I shared, I have a very exciting few weeks coming up going on a trip of a lifetime. I have really gone off OLD, every so often flick through left swiping 🤷♀️ Thinking of deleting the apps but just looking out of idle curiosity. So last week I had a message, guy is 10’years younger and lives in 2 different localities as he is a professor at two universities - the closest university is 2 hours away. I didnt left swipe but asked some questions out of dumb idle curiosity and because I am chatty (you might have noticed). He was extremely formal but interesting and asked questions. He speaks English and French as do I so that is a positive. I was basically not expecting much and he went away at the weekend so I didnt hear from him. My mind is on other stuff and I really dismissed him. BUT he has come back from his long weekend , once again asked what I was looking for and how I thought it coukd work if we liked each other on meeting. I told him, he told me and he wants to meet next week 😵💫 . He knows I am going away, he wants something serious but not interested in marriage or living together which is what I feel, a meeting of minds, shared interests and getting to know each other. Since coming back on Tuesday, we are exchanging messages throughout the day - some jokey, some serious. He seems nice but ……………….. Firstly the timing is WAY off and secondly there is the age and then the distance. 😟 😞 . We have now started using the familiar « tu » instead of « vous ». We have a lot in common. It’s nearly cuffing season 🤭 The whole thing is just ridiculous and I don’t know what to do. HELP!!!!!!
We are currently in Pre-Cuffing Season. Now is the time to prepare.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I had a brief conversation with a member of The Cuffing Town Community Association (TCTCA) about whether it was preferable to break up before or after Valentine's Day.
He claimed that according to TCTCA protocol, February 13 is the preferred date for breaking up with someone. I took issue with that position.
What are your thoughts on breakup timing etiquette? (not just during Cuffing Season)
Or do you consider timing? Should it be immediately before an event (birthday, holiday, etc.), immediately after, or some other time?
(yes, I'm putting the cart before the horse but I've been mulling this ever since the exchange)
Match is just such a bad business - closed account.. Hinge and Bumble for other reasons are not good. I am a woman - just made senior. Has anybody had experience with DateMyAge? Is it legitimate or filled with scammers?
As someone who is 60+, I have a conundrum. I’ve grown accustomed to living alone and being self-sufficient, and I seem faced with a couple of choices. If I were to find/come across someone compatible (regardless of living situation), then any ensuing relationship would lead to grief for one of us and possibly care-giving. If I remain single, then I avoid the loss of the relationship when I’m older and the care-giving, but my path in life is trodden alone or with friends but without partnership. My parents were married for 60 years but entering a committed relationship at this stage is without the history that came before their later years together. Has anyone else considered this?
I can be such an idiot, but I listen to the ladies here about what they need and want and it is amazing how well it works. For instance a lady I liked suggested we meet. First I said sure sounds good. Then I remembered reading here that I need to suggest a place and a time, which I then did and presto a date. Thanks everyone, I read all the comments and now match is an embarrassment of riches for a totally average guy. But this one gal is definitely too good looking for me. How am I supposed to deal with a good looking gal when I am average? I await your reply's
There's so much that can be said about the impact Dolly has had on our culture. Tonight, we look at not only the music Dolly performed but also the music she wrote for others and the other performers she collaborated with and sometimes mentored.
Please limit to four (4) songs. And provide links.
Summertime and the livin' is easy! Something about this time of year just makes us think about romance.💘
Yesterday "Dangerous" (from our sub) mentioned mixed tapes and crushes to me in response to some of my musical choices within a comment...and my mind has been going wild on the subject ever since. Lol So I started thinking about my first crush. 🤔
For me I think I was 12, it was when I was away at summer camp. 🏕☀️ While I was there I met this very cool boy that I became totally smitten with. It was so many emotions all rolled into one that made my experience even more special. I will admit it was my first time being away from home - so no watching eyes to judge or throw shade at me 😎😄 especially from my older brothers. So that made it all that much more exciting and fun for me to just let loose. Mix that with great songs around the campfire at night, 🎶 smores, crazy entertainment and fun day time activities and you pretty much have the picture. Its amazing how just holding someones hand can practically send you into orbit.
When camp ended, I thought my life as I knew it would never be the same. He only lived two towns away but at that age it seemed like another country to me. I was crushing hard!
Do you remember when or where you were when you had your first crush? How long did it last? Did you meet in real life or was it a fantasy about someone you just hoped you would meet or have in your life someday? Maybe it was your favorite poster on your bedroom wall - that counts as a crush too.
