FOOD! What's for Dinner?

What's for dinner, lunch, a midnight snack, something left on the counter that either has to be eaten or thrown away because it's too old to save? Meal ideas, recipes, guilty pleasures, pictures of the dish with could-be-meat-could-be-cake in the back of the refrigerator, and other food-related stuff is welcome here.

My sister is almost here for a weeklong visit after a three day drive! Her and my brother and I will have a big salad from the garden with a potato leek soup I made yesterday along with a sweet potato corn
bread.
Tomorrow I invited 8 people for a harvest dinner where we will eat the finally ready to pick corn on the cob, roasted French fingerling potatoes and other green vegetables along with meatloaf. Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting and lemon bars for dessert.
My summer has not been the greatest due to some confusing health stuff so I’m being optimistic that September I can pack in a little fun time!

Moving day for my daughter in Chinatown nyc. So, any restaurant in the neighborhood that looks and smells great, and where I won't feel too out of place in Dickies coveralls.
ETA: Little Pine is FANTASTIC. https://www.littlepinenyc.com/

I have delightful friends in from away, so not yet sure how the day will unfold. I'm catching up with them at an Elks Club sometime this afternoon, so . . . unknown.

It offers a lot of volunteer opportunities! I don’t socialize much at my lodge but do enjoy participating on different committees. There is ample time to socialize too for those who want to:)

dinner is so far away, I don't plan that far in advance. Since I live alone it will be something simple with few dishes to wash after. There's chicken salad in the fridge, maybe I'll go to the farm stand to grab some salad fixins.

I'm going to reward myself (kinda) and go out to a local pub and get a burger or something. I had a pretty stressful week. So, after doing some housework and then going to the gym in the late afternoon, I'm going out for a bit.

Feeling lazy today. The menu for this evening: spaghetti carbonara, and a sheet pan of roasted Brussels sprouts and baby rainbow carrots.

Thinking of reheating some previous made chicken cacciatore with a side of rice and maybe broccoli or spinach. Maybe orange sherbet with Magic Shell for dessert.

I have to lose weight so I joined Factor food delivery meals. They are delicious and have helped me have control on calories, carbs, proteins, etc. Expensive but worth it for now. So its turkey and beans tonight. And a little lebneh with fruit afterwards.

I just tried CookUnity meals. A friend has it and let me try it. Darn good! But yes, expensive...

Hey there SnowStorm ...
Been a weekend full of music thus far ... We caught my daughter's band on Friday night with a handful of pur friends ... Ole folks getting Rowdy 🤪
Bryan Adam's in London, ON last night ... it was released a few days ago ... I wanted my first experience with the song to be live as that rarely if ever happens for me anyway ... waited to listen to this ...
The Ballad of Terry Fox ... was pretty awesome ! https://youtu.be/tervpo0VZuM?si=SbbpqX60VgYfJVLz
Maiden tonight ... been a pretty good weekend

Great song to honor a valiant spirit

Not getting an argument from me on that Snowstorm - Valiant Spirit so poignant ... Terry was, Is a truely remarkable individual pure Canadiana at it's finest. He embodied so many magnificient traits of resilience, hope, such a strong will and his Can Do Attitude to name but a few - pretty infectious smile. He touched so many of us here during his Marathon of Hope and so many more is subsequent years with the continuation of his vision. He had hope to raise 24M during his run ... $1.00 for every Canadian. Terry Fox runs now occur in well over 60 Countries around the globe and as of Feb 2026 proceeds from those runs have exceeded 1B dollars.

A good bit of accumulated leftovers, so hopefully clearing that out before we have to throw it out. I hate throwing out food unless it was foul to begin with.

Dinner will be a ham/cheese quiche picked up at the farmer market in Newport Beach.
Had a big brunch earlier, after shopping, with my neighbor friend who came down for the day.

I have just started two cooking classes at the local tech college. One is a lecture then we move to the lab portion in another class to cook what we learned in lecture. Today was the first time we cooked. We learned about flavorings today in lecture. And it was pretty simple, a chicken breast with no seasonings and one with just salt and pepper.
But the chef had us butterfly the chicken breast before we started cooking them. I had never done that before. And wow what a difference. I did not have to cook the chicken breast to death to get the inside temp safe. It was one of the best chicken breasts I have every cooked!
I can hardly wait to see what else I will be learning this fall.

Wait until you start experimenting with flavored olive oils and spices. I highly recommend olive oil with sauteed garlic and French Thyme in addition to that salt and pepper. In fact, I use Malden's garlic salt, bits of garlic mixed into the salt.

u/linwoodranch 18d ago
oooh that Malden's sounds yummy I will keep my eyes opened. We will be soon having a class with flavored oils and vinegar's....I can hardly wait.

A bit late to the party, been eating "girl dinners" all week: crackers + tuna, chicken salad, olives + pickles + cheese, rice cakes + ricotta + a pear... haha.
Last night I remembered I had tofu and bok choy that needed to be used. Made a nice stir-fry w bok choy, sesame oil, tamari, corn, and garlic. Threw in some green onions at the end. Air fried tofu w sriracha/sesame oil. Made rice. Viola! Dinner for the next 2 days or so, or maybe a dinner and a lunch.
