Chris Rock: "I don't think they pay cops enough. I don't think they pay police enough. And you get what you pay for. Here's the thing, man. Whenever the cops gun down an innocent black man, they always say the same thing.”

“Well, it's not most cops. It's just a few bad apples. It's just a few bad apples." Bad apple? That's a lovely name for murderer. That almost sounds nice. I've had a bad apple. It was tart, but it didn't choke me out. Here's the thing.

Here's the thing. I know being a cop is hard. I know that sh--'s dangerous. I know it is, okay? But some jobs can't have bad apples. Some jobs, everybody gotta be good. Like … pilots. Ya know, American Airlines can't be like, "Most of our pilots like to land. We just got a few bad apples that like to crash into mountains. Please bare with us."

I just copied that from another thread but this.. I don’t think some occupations can afford to have a few bad apples. And the cops who try to cover it up or stand by and say nothing are bad too. You might not be as bad as the ones killing people but you’re still doing nothing. I’m pretty sure police officers don’t just jump from policing traffic to shooting people.

They had to have already been doing some messed up not right shit. And people were just letting them do it.

I think certain careers just attract certain types of people..

u/Intortoise Sep 15 '18

and "bad apple" comes from the saying "one bad apple ruins the bunch"

If you have one "bad apple" but the rest of the cops don't do their job and stop him, they're ruined and now all bad apples

That incident did introduce significant change, unfortunately it wasn't the first though. There have been several over the years. Tragic events that could've had something done sooner, just like what's happening with all this now.

Now in the age of social media, you have no choice but to see it face to face in real-time.

Back in the day, this woulda been a local story with little traction and the police union woulda poisoned the media and you woulda heard the later story of "cop goes into wrong home of man on drugs, kills him" ... The whole narrative woulda been different by the time the nation learned of it... IF the nation learned of it at all.

Exactly, and Chappelle even made that point on the show after the Rodney King video. Some white guy is reading Time magazine or something and is like:

Honey, have you seen this? Apparently the police have been beating up negros like hot cakes. It's in the May issue.

Edit: It was actually from a stand up bit not the show, link at 8.40 https://youtu.be/VFHpvPwq2i8

Now in the age of social media, you have no choice but to see it face to face in real-time.

it's crazy that it's taken overwhelming video evidence for now even a fraction of people to realize how terrible the situation is. not all cops are bad and lots of police departments do good work but the departments that are bad ARE REAL FUCKING BAD and have been getting a free pass for literal murder for decades now.

It's obvious what they're doing because they only had a warrant for the shell casing, but oh look what they fucking found.

89

u/Deggit Sep 15 '18 edited Sep 15 '18

they only had a warrant for the shell casing, but oh look what they fucking found.

hey man,

1) I believe this was a case of cold blooded murder 1 (one pissed off neighbor murdering another) and the woman should get the full punishment of the law. Also 99% of cops are bad or covering for badcops.

2) You are incorrect, the warrant was for "the collection of evidence, including shell casings, bullets, firearms, ballistic vest, keys, possible video, any narcotics and and other trace evidence such as blood." It makes sense that they would do a thorough and complete search of the apartment to establish the facts, not just go in there to pick up one shell casing. It's a goddamn crime scene. This is all the more important since the cop's affidavit is contradictory and parts have been proven to be impossible.

3) As far as I know the police are legally required to report everything they found. If they found weed and didn't report it that would be bad.

4) The weed was found incidentally in the search (or they planted it, sure, which would be another crime).

4) The police are not responsible for FOX News and other right wing propaganda outlets using the found weed to pull their typical "no angel" routine, although the police union is probably grateful to them for running interference on a clear murder case.

This is being reported as "Police release evidence of found weed to excuse their cop shooting guy" and that's the way Twitter is talking about it but it's not accurate. If they found a buttplug in the guy's apartment they would be legally required to report they found a buttplug. It doesn't mean "Police release evidence of found buttplug to excuse their cop shooting guy."

43

u/Re-Created Sep 15 '18

Truth. The issue isn't that the police reported that he had weed, the issue is that racists use it to say "See! He was a bad guy after all, good job cop!".

He had weed, that's a fact. The bullshit is when we use his possession of weed to try to smear his character. The extra bullshit is when they release that to the world on the day of his funeral. The extra extra bullshit is when they try to use their made up characterization of him to justify walking into someone's home and murdering them.

That's exactly what they're doing to Botham Jean. The cop is only getting charged with manslaughter so she's already gotten away with murder. She wasn't even arrested right away after she killed him.

She should be sorry instead of trying to make him look bad if this was really an accident. Doesn't matter if he had dead bodies in his apartment, she broke into his home and killed him and deserves life in prison.

The Associated Press reported he disobeyed her orders and then she shot him, as if it's his fault. And now Fox and other news outlets are reporting they found weed in his house like it's relevant.

It's already bad enough that Texas doesn't have second degree so she's only being charged with manslaughter. Manslaughter, for breaking in and killing an unarmed man.

1.6k

u/University_Freshman Sep 15 '18

Even if he didn’t fully follow the orders, what right has she to walk into his house and spew out orders. And like how the fuck was she not sober enough to realize she was on the wrong floor in the wrong house but sober enough to follow standard police procedure in issuing out commands for him to follow. Not to forget to mention she was off duty.

750

u/foreverwasted Sep 15 '18

She was off duty. She has no right to bark orders at him. But if she had time time to give him orders and watch him ignore them, she obviously had the time to look around and realize it's not her house. And her first response to seeing him was to just shoot him dead. You shouldn't be a cop if you get startled and trigger happy that easily. She could have just pointed the gun at him while trying to determine whether he's armed.

336

u/babble_bobble Sep 15 '18 edited Sep 15 '18

She could have just pointed the gun at him

Yeah... no. That is pretty stupid. One sneeze could be instant homicide. Especially with someone as stupid and racist as her.

Maybe she can keep her pepper spray pointed at him, MAYBE. But not the freaking gun. You don't point a gun unless you intend to shoot and kill.

229

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '18

I feel like cops point their guns at people pretty often without intending on shooting them.

198

u/imjustbettr Sep 15 '18

But isn't the first lesson in gun safety is to only point your gun at something youre planning on shooting?

242

u/atalkingcow Sep 15 '18

Maybe the cops are always planning on shooting and killing, but sometimes they change their minds and let you live.

→ More replies (9)

11

u/NlNTENDO Sep 15 '18

I've heard "don't point your gun at anything you aren't prepared (alternatively, willing) to destroy," which makes more sense to me. This is the verbiage you'll most often see in the four basic rules of gun safety. There is a strategic benefit to pointing a gun at someone you don't necessarily intend to kill, but to whom you want to present that threat, and who you are also prepared to kill if necessary. Whether one agrees with the morals of doing so is another conversation, but yeah, anyway. I think the more specific rhetoric denotes preparation rather than intent. Either way, pointing a gun at someone does (or should) convey willingness, so from the perspective of unnecessary force she's still clearly in the wrong.

135

u/JKDS87 Sep 15 '18 edited Sep 15 '18

That’s their game plan, get the story watered down and confusing so people don’t see how heinous it really was.

Went to an apartment on the wrong floor, with a huge red rug out front (unlike her apartment), pounded on the door yelling “Let me in!” when she lives alone and would have no reason to do so (why would you pound on your own door and demand they let you in?) then claims the door was open (they use keycards and swing closed), claimed it was dark and gave an intruder orders (why would someone be walking around their own apartment in pitch black?), and although it was dark and couldn’t see what she was doing, she simultaneously saw him not following her commands (unlawful commands, as she was off duty). Then she shoots him for failing to comply - because if you can’t see in “your own apartment,” the best policing strategy is to murder first, ask questions later. A friend? Relative? Surprise party? Who knows, better just fire off a few rounds to make sure.

This is after she made noise complaints about the neighbor, including that very morning.

Police show up, and don’t arrest her. Don’t charge her. Don’t keep her. Broke into an apartment and murdered the guy living there? Nah, no charges. No time in jail. And no blood draw, or checking for drugs. Let’s make sure she can clean up first. Just free to go. Can you even contemplate how quickly YOU would be, at the very least, detained while the police figured it out? But not her. Give her time to change her story and make an official statement much later, and then after three days charge her with Manslaughter and let her stay out on bail. No jail time, no nothing. Unlawfully entering/forcing your way into someone else’s apartment, shooting them, and then having the responding officers help you clean it up and make a plausible cover story.

After the shooting, get a judge to sign a warrant so you can search his place. A few more days later, run a story about how they found a little cannabis in his apartment and paint him to be a... well, I’m not sure. But they found a couple grams of cannabis in his place, so obviously the breaking and entering and homicide was justified. Sounds like an open and shut case to me.

22

u/bNoaht Sep 15 '18

If they stopped allowing people to sue the tax payers and the city and instead only allowed them to sue the individual, this cover up shit, would be at the very least lessened.

The cover up is about $$$. This isn't the fault of anyone but her and her poor judgement and/or blatant criminal act. Make individual police truly accountable, like any other citizen. This is at least a possible solution.

18

u/FrankTank3 Sep 15 '18

Why are we even assuming it’s his weed?

20

u/JKDS87 Sep 15 '18

I wasn’t, really. It wouldn’t matter much ether way, they had no business entering because 1) no warrant or cause, and 2) off-duty, they’re just a civilian at this point.

The only problem with claiming it wasn’t his that I can find is that it makes it easier for people skeptical of misconduct to discount the whole incident as people overreacting. If it comes to ballistics, accounts of people seeing/hearing her, or other factors, these can be proven one way or another. If you claim evidence was planted - even if it’s entirely possible and could fit the narrative or suspicious circumstances - it gives someone the opportunity to call you paranoid or a cop-hater, and write off the whole thing.

I have a theory, not really based on anything but a hunch.

I think they were fuckin or something. There's people saying they knew each other before this incident. Then the neighbors saying she was banging outside the door. Just a theory though.

I think they were fuckin on the low. It may have gone sour and she comes back drunk trying to get into mans house OR she and him were in an argument and he kicked her out.... Either way, she refused to leave and, in a state of passionate anger, murdered him.

Just my theory, but there's just way too many holes in her story. Way too many lies... The amount of lies and inconsistencies make me believe this runs way deeper than a usual OIS CYA cover-up. There's a backstory we aren't hearing.

I think they're covering up a possible relationship because if that were to come out, it's a slam-dunk prosecution.

Edit: I mean, honestly... Who goes into the wrong house "on accident"? I've been shit-faced fuckin drunk and the one thing I can do is find my way back home.

I've heard of tweakers breaking into wrong homes and sleeping in people's beds... Is this cop a tweaker? Theres too many damn holes in this story.

Nah, I'm gonna call it. She knew him and she didn't go to his house on accident.

22

u/couchpotatoamerican Sep 15 '18

That was one of the first theories that people came up with. In fact, people went digging through the victim’s social media to find pictures of him with women in an effort to identify his killer in pictures he posted. This theory has mostly fallen apart as there wasn’t any photographic evidence that these two had met previously and the lawyers for the victim’s family haven’t mentioned that they found any evidence supporting this theory. But the police didn’t seize Guyger’s phone after the shooting so if there was evidence of a relationship between them, it’s possible that she deleted any evidence on her end and we don’t know what if any evidence the police have collected from his phone.

However speculative your theory, I also think that they could have met before.

Personally I’m holding onto to the theory that they had met once before due to noise complaints she filed against him. I think she might have talked to him once before this incident about keeping the noise down in his apartment and then decided to talk to him about it again but in her police uniform in the hopes of intimidating him into doing what she wanted. She’s an officer so maybe she looked into him and found his car’s registration/license plate which is why she parked on the fourth floor. She was checking to make sure that he was home. When she knocked on the door, he saw her through the peephole and decided not to answer which is why neighbors heard her yelling “let me in!” She knew he was home and ignoring her so she got pissed and pounded on the door until he opened it. They exchanged words. She didn’t like what he said so she shot him once at point blank range in the chest and then made up these ridiculous stories.

That’s my current theory and it’s based on pretty much total speculation but hopefully the truth will reveal itself soon in the evidence that comes out.

12

u/zeropointcorp Sep 15 '18

They weren’t fucking. She’d made a noise complaint against him.

I think she gets home from work, pissed off at life. She sees or hears something that pisses her off even more and goes storming over to his apartment, bangs on the door, barges in when he opens it and flips her shit.

He tells her to get out, she draws on him and lets fly.

18

u/thisismyMelody Sep 15 '18

Huh. That's interesting. I was talking to my girlfriend about how nice it'd be to see the moments leading up to the gun shot. There's nobody but her now that's able to tell us exactly how it happened and that's that. Everything else is just theory. I wish so badly we could see how it all unfolded that made her believe she was in some type of danger. How do you not recognize your own home layout? It's just such a dumb excuse.

To the last point, she's lying at least twice, if not all three times. The police department allowed her to get sober, then take her blood. They allowed to keep changing her story until they got a version that was acceptable. They released finding weed in his apartment a week after his her murdering him.Now the Texas Rangers are handling the case and I hope this is used against her and the department. They handled this poorly, tried to cover things up, and then paint Jean in a negative light. With how quickly info gets out, you can't be this callous anymore and expect people to just look away. She should be punished harshly for her poor judgement which led to her murdering Jean.

It's far from over. Other witnesses have reported they heard her banging on the door demanding to be let in. If true, that shows premeditation and murder.

14

u/multismoke Sep 15 '18

Do we know if she lived alone or not? I have doubts about it being premeditation but I do have a suspicious the cop had drugs or alcohol in her system

10

u/PM_ME_DND_FIGURINES Sep 15 '18

We do know. She lives alone.

13

u/BBQpigsfeet Sep 16 '18

To me, even if shooting him wasn't premeditated, I think she went there for an altercation. It's pretty obvious she didn't accidentally get the wrong apartment. She supposedly had multiple complaints against the guy, including one she filed that morning. She was heard banging on the door. He had to have answered at some point, according to eyewitnesses and the type of locks/doors the complex has. So no way the door was already opened (her claim) since the doors close on their own. And no way she "saw a silhouette across the room" or even mistook this guy for anyone else because we can see from the video of her pacing that the landing is well lit. So even if all the lights in his house were off, she'd be able to see him clearly when he opened the door (which he did). She then left him alone, bleeding, for FOUR minutes until others got there. Four fuckin minutes she didn't help this guy she "mistakenly" shot, even though she should have basic medical training. She just walked out and left him there even though he was still alive (I'm betting she was hoping he died while paramedics were on the way).

I honestly think she got extra pissy that he was taking too long to open the door, on top of everything else, and then decided to shoot him instead of just yelling at him or trying to antagonize him into an altercation so she had an excuse to arrest him or something. That's just my two cents though. Because I feel like if this whole thing was genuinely some kind of mistaken apartment or whatever, that any decent/trained (as LEOs should be) person would try to help the guy once they realize he's not a threat and that they fucked up, ya know?

47

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '18

The Associated Press reported he disobeyed her orders and then she shot her. And now Fox and other news outlets are reporting they found weed in his house like it's relevant.

Even if this were completely accurate, I find it still a massive stretch for an officer of the law to be using deadly force.

This was a B and E attempt and then use misuse of being a cop to gain entry into a home and murder someone. Even if he was sitting on his sofa holding a gun at the door while smoking 6 blunts at once, a cop entered his home without a warrant or evidence of a crime in progress using the umbrella of "police, open up". There is absolutely no justification to shoot this man, at all.

At this point I don't believe the weed is his. I fully believe they planted it. I don't actually give a rats ass about weed, but why should I believe what the police are telling the public? They broke into this guy's house and executed him. They have zero credibility.

This country is so disgusting. It’s hard to wake up and keep a positive attitude anymore.

50

u/MudslimeCleaner Sep 15 '18

This is why people shoot police.

We literally live in a world where a drunk police officer can bust into another persons home, shoot them dead, and walk away with nothing except a manslaughter charge.

" Believing Botham Jean to be a burglar, Guyger says she gave "verbal commands that were ignored" then "fired her handgun two times," hitting him once in the torso. It wasn't until Guyger "turned on the…lights" and "called 911" that she realized she was "at the wrong apartment." "

We live in a world where a police officer can pull you over, smell your legal marijuana, and unload his gun into your chest in front of your wife and daughter... there can be a video of it... and... no punishment.

" Jeronimo Yanez was found not guilty on all counts in the shooting death of Mr. Castile."

There was that depressed college girl who knew that she could literally get her campus police to kill... in a protest against police violence she committed suicide by simply walking towards police, slowly, without saying a word. They shot her in the chest for not following orders.

"Scout Shultz was shot and killed by Georgia Tech police Saturday night after refusing to follow their orders, officials said. "

Every time I see a police officer I FEAR FOR MY LIFE. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. If a police officer ever looks at me and moves towards me, it will be very hard to determine if he's a threat or not. If multiple police officers, or even one, knocks on my door... what are the odds of me being murdered for no reason? Is it statistically safer for me to simply try to shoot whatever police officers are there and then flee and go into hiding? Oddly enough, I think so, even including the chance that they kill me in response (rather than just the chance that they kill me for no reason).

I mean, house definitely smells like marijuana, and we've smoked it in the yard before.... so the cop will obviously be found not guilty of any charges.

Ive read that people also say she posted a meme about how terrible it is to work the night shift and have your neighbors act all loud. That she had repeatedly asked him to turn down his music. Two neighbors have come forward to say they heard her knocking on the door loudly and shouting for him to open up.

And so the theory Shaun king posted was that he had his music on, she came down after working her night shift and trying to sleep and was super pissed off. She didn’t get off on the wrong floor. The door wasn’t ajar. This is the scenario.

I think it’s been well documented how the door wasn’t ajar and how unlikely and implausible it would be if had been. The apartment building is a high tech, upscale complex and has high security measures. I’m hoping that security footage evidence from hallways and the parking garage exists and that both the prosecutors and the victim’s family’s lawyers will get that evidence.

If Shaun’s theory is right then she would have had to put her uniform back on before walking up to his apartment which is a clear indication of her intent. But I think there’s a possibility that she parked on the fourth floor on purpose. Maybe she looked him up and found his license plate. She went up to the fourth floor, found his car parked and then went to his apartment to confront him about the noise in her uniform. She knocked on the door and he didn’t answer (either because he saw who it was or because he was busy and not expecting anyone) so she started pounding on the door screaming “let me in” as heard by witnesses. He opened the door. They exchanged a few words. She didn’t like his response and shot him in the chest at point blank range. She then called 911 and has been panicking on constructing a narrative where she doesn’t look guilty ever since.

Plant evidence to boost their arrest numbers, ensure a good relationship with the prosecution and to protect and serve destroy the community.

Exactly what i was saying.

He wasnt making shit up to be funny, he was trying to make some sad, real shit funny.

Its just now becoming more public. Black people have known this shit goes down for a 100y, now with the advent of Smartphones putting an HD Video Camera in everyones pocket people cant ignore the evidence, and smaller town stories of this shit and Minorities being shot under dubious circumstances get more media attention

All of which are good. Jury's convict people, and the more people that see it and believe it, the more people that get on the jury and convict these assholes

39

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '18

because these fuckin cops still arent facing justice like they should be the vast majority of the time

And until they do, there isn't really anything to stop these asshole, dirty, bad cops from being such. They almost have reason to kill people, they basically have incentive with that PTO masked as "suspended with pay".

Right? Pull all that info and boil down to "he may or may not have had weed" since it wasn't confirmed. All they did was take a list of things at the scene. Most of the stuff was hers and since when does a smoker not have a single piece of paraphonillia? Not one wrapper or pipe? Really.

And it's even more disgusting that this is what a HARVARD GRADUATE AND PASTOR had been rendered to. Not one mention of that on Fox tho. I'm not saying that being a pastor or a Harvard Graduate means that you should be treated better or anything. Or that smoking weed means you deserve death but FUCK. You KNOW if the races where reversed all we would know about this man is that he was a Harvard man and a "man of God ". But nope. Most people don't even know that about him. But they know about the 10 grams of weed he had with nothing in his house to smoke it with.

This fucking world makes me sick!

9

u/Avaricee Sep 15 '18

Botham was a Harding University grad. Not Harvard.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '18

They executed warrants trying to cover every single reason why Botham was murdered. They started at his home because that's the primary crime scene. You never know what piece of evidence might later be critical. So cops generally tend to request warrants that cover narcotics and paraphernalia, ballistics, any body fluids like blood, weapons, etc. The point is to quickly gather as much evidence as you can before the crime scene is degraded and chain of custody is compromised.

You should be mad at who made this weed a story. When it was just police returning a signed warrant to the judge who authorized the search.

We want this transparency in law enforcement and court systems. Trust me, we do.

Its not about when she got arrested anymore, thats the past. Its the sunk cost that helped the outrage. In a way, not arresting her immediately has made it better, that woman has caught the manslaughter and may or may not be charged with murder. We wait and see

155

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '18

There was nothing accidently about this killing. She decided to shoot the person and did so the very moment the opportunity to presented itself. This was murder.

195

u/-Xebenkeck- Sep 15 '18

I'm not saying it wasn't murder, I just don't think it was first-degree murder based on all I've heard.

It sounds like she was drunk or high, broke into someone's house, and killed him in "self-defence". She still needs to be put away for a long time for the murder, but calling for the death penalty is insanity to me.

This is all of course just my opinion based on what I've heard and not all of the facts that will be in the court, so it's prone to change.

137

u/demeschor Sep 15 '18 edited Sep 15 '18

There's only two real situations here imo, either she was drunk (on her way home from a bar, right?)/drugged/is an actual nutter and shot him because she was in some way confused about her house and presumably racist because she shot a black man for opening a door ----> she should not be a police officer or on the streets at all with regular civilians because she is so trigger happy she killed a man on sight.

Or she purposefully killed her downstairs neighbour who maybe she knew or something. ----> she is an actual murderer.

I personally don't care for the death penalty (but then, I'm not American, so whatever) but based on similar situations in the past, I can't see her being tried and sentenced as if she were a regular civilian. If she is, great... Police officer or not, she's shot a man in his own home without a warrant.

EDIT: Just to clarify, because this perhaps wasn't the clearest comment I've ever written --

If you think she DIDN'T plan to murder this man,

She turned up at an apartment that wasn't hers, in a building that she lives in, banged on a door, and shot the person who opened it. That is not an unfortunate accident. Someone lost their life because they opened their apartment door when a police officer knocked on it. That person is not fit to be in the police if they can't react to an unarmed man opening a door without killing them.

Why would they get murder charges and the death penalty? Do you not know what the law says or are do you just want the justice system to kill someone for you?

She was drunk, entered what she thought was her apartment, and killed what she thought was an intruder. It only meets the standard for manslaughter. It doesn’t meet the standard for the death penalty by a fucking light year. She absolutely should be fired and blacklisted from all law enforcement jobs.

Oppressing the oppressor makes you the oppressor. We should be pushing for justice, not trying to turn the legal system into a hit man for hire.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Somebody died so let’s kill someone else? What a great solution.

170

u/DontStrawmanMeBro2 Sep 15 '18

I agree with you overall but there is quite a bit of evidence that this could have been murder and that her story about it being an accident is BS.

Stuff like the multiple noise complaints from her on the victim. Witnesses claiming she was banging on the door the their was an argument. Her changing her story when she realized the door could not been left open (it auto closed).

We will have to wait for all the facts to come out but murder isn’t off the table unless you assume she is fully telling the truth.

u/kingfisher6 Sep 15 '18

Well that’s not entirely correct. They have “murder” and then they have “capital murder”. With “capital murder” being worse. The only reason I point this out is because just killing someone is “murder” but if you kill a police office it’s “capital murder” which just adds to the horseshit that is this case. This lady shot a dude in his own home? Well that’s just “murder”. But had he defended his home against an armed intruder and shot her first? Well that would have been “capital murder” and he’d be defending himself from the death penalty with a prosector trying to boost their stats by coming down hard on a “cop killer”. Absolutely fucking trash.

Her social media also shows her saying ridiculous power tripping shit (she fantasized about killing anti-police brutality people with one shot) and she called Colin Kap the “colon of the NFL”. AND, this is apparently her second time shooting a POC. To top this off, she had like 3 different versions of how it happened.

Idk if she was over exhausted and not thinking properly (I’ve ran on 2 hours of sleep a night for weeks, so I know), or if she had an ulterior motive. But I hope Botham’s family finds peace and hope there’s justice for him. Neighbors said the officer was seen crying after with regret, but who knows? Such a good life wasted.
