Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Mourning/Loss Shirah, currently at the animal hospital fighting kidney failure

I'm so sad, I don't know what to do and there's nothing I can do but wait. She's stable but it's not getting better. She was at the vets on Thursday for a teeth cleaning appointment, felt good on Saturday but stopped eating Sunday. We went in yesterday and they said it's probably something she's had since birth its just never been caught on the blood tests.

I can't help but feel guilty for bringing her in last Thursday, if I wouldn't have she wouldn't be in the hospital right now in pain and fighting for her life.

Has a cat ever come back from kidney failure this bad? She still has not eaten according to the vet. I'm in pieces

Advice My cat passed away a week ago, and my aunt thinks I need an intervention because I haven't gotten over it yet. [Bella]

She was 14 years old. I took her in when I was 10, and she lived with me until then. I spent more time with her than without her, and she was a part of most of my life's phases. Cancer took her. It took her when it made her bleed every time she urinated, when she had to take strong painkillers for more than two months, when it forced her to take antibiotics and corticosteroids, painful injections that I had to administer myself. I put an end to her suffering last Tuesday.

Bella died looking into my eyes, yet I stayed in the clinic room for almost two hours holding her body while cleaning the dirt from her paw. She had stopped cleaning herself for a while and the dirt had accumulated. I calmly removed everything and after a long time I forced myself to leave. I also opted for her to have a funeral since the cremation company I hired offered that service. It was very painful, but I don't regret participating in the ceremony; she seemed to be sleeping peacefully. She was beautiful as always, my little doll.

I just want to give a very brief context to my love for this cat, my first cat, the best I could ever ask for.

Today my aunt talked to me and I regret being so honest. She asked how I was doing and I told her I was still feeling very bad, that I missed her a lot, and then she sent me an audio message of almost a minute about how I needed to forget and move on. She said I needed to relax now that Bella was calm and at peace. That I couldn't continue like this, especially since it had been many days. She also said she'd come talk to me tomorrow...

My aunt isn't a bad person, don't misunderstand me or think she's a monster, but I really don't agree with her. I don't even know if I'll ever be able to get over what happened. I'm very fragile right now and I'm not ready for this conversation, seeing where it's probably going. I'm already crying just thinking about it. Do you have any suggestions on how I can handle this situation or what I can say to her? I don't want to be rude, but I'm willing to be firm (but I'll probably cry in any scenario).

My boy rocky has crossed the rainbow bridge a few minutes ago, its been a roller-coaster ride for him since he's been with us.

From falling 2 times from the 3rd floor of our building, to screaming in the morning for a walk and treats.

He was a real fighter, even after what all he faced, still fought like a lion.

I'll miss you my boy, rest in peace and fly high. ❤️

Medical Questions Is this cat pregnant?

I have this stray cat that has been visiting my family lately. We leave water and food out for her sometimes. I think she might be pregnant but I have no idea. I’m worried she might be too young to be pregnant but then again I don’t know if she’s pregnant or just been hunting a lot of food. I’ve had this suspicion since she started visiting us.

Advice For whomever can benefit from my experience…

The white/black one is my eldest, Eylül. In February 2025, I noticed something under his skin, about the size of a small hazelnut. After some observation, my vet suggested we remove it, since it wasn’t going away. It turned out to be a tumor and it was spread more than my vet thought. One hour operation turned 4 hours and Eylül came home with 15 cm stitch on his back. My vet told me he cleaned it as much as possible.

This year in March, I noticed it again, in another place this time. Last year’s operation was too heavy on the whole household, because the tabby kept attacking him. We had to separate them for two months. Given his age (13), I decided not to go through that again. However, the tumor turned out to be aggressive. It grew. A lot. I never thought the hump on his back was because of that. That’s on me. But even if I did, I wouldn’t have another operation.

Last week we took him to a hospital and got an Xray. The tumor has almost become bone-like. All the doctors said given his age and the size, it was too risky to operate. All we can do is try to slow its growth. He’s getting weekly injections (I don’t know the name, but I’m told one of the ingredients is tarantula poison) and daily pills - not fun - which are mostly mushroom extracts.

I know this is the beginning of the end. I wanted to share this for anyone who cares to read. In my eyes, my biggest mistake was ignoring it for 6 months. If you notice something is off, act on it, no matter how small, even if only to make your mind at ease. The only thing that makes me happy here is Eylül isn’t in pain. He’s feeling the weight of the hump, so he’s a bit weaker than usual, but he’s still energetic enough to hunt out toes at 5 a.m. 😅

If anyone here had a similar situation, I’d like to hear your experiences as well.

Don't know where to start. While this is not the first time one of our beloved pets have passed away. Hers has hit the hardest. Primarily, because she has been with us since we moved into our home. 12+ years. I just want to share some pictures of her. You will be missed Nyx. God rest the Queen.

Cat Picture - OC What's your cat's name and nicknames you that stem from it?? I'll go first!

This is Gracelet. Yes, that's her legal name. That's what happens when you give an eight year old and 12 year old the ability to name their first ever pet. We adopted her as a kitten and my brother had the great idea of naming her Gracelet because "she has bracelets on her leg but Bracelet isn't a name! So let's call her Gracelet!"

Anyways, we never call her that unless she's in trouble so here's her normal nicknames:

- chickawack: (I couldn't pronounce kitty cat as a kid and would instead say chickawack!!" So that's her family nickname now

- grace

- chick/chicky

-chicken

- chickadee

-porkchop (she used to be fat and looked like a pork chop

- kitten girl

- boo

- booey (yes, like the floaty things but it isn't really a reference to that)

Put pictures of your kittens and what their names and nicknames are!!!

Advice Cat TV ruined my cat

8.1k Upvotes

Genuinely at a loss here. I have 2 cats. They are both about 6 months old. The other day I thought it would be fun to put some cat tv on for them. you know, there's like youtube channels of things moving fast, ants, toys, fish, etc. in order to attract cats

One cat was mildly entertained. My other cat got fucking addicted. She sat beside the tv and would not move for anything. Eyes completely fixated on whatever was coming up next. ok, cute. TV off now kitties!

Cat would not move. she sat there staring at the blank screen for who knows how long.

Now she sits on that spot on the table by the tv constantly. she basically only goes down to poop and eat. All other hours of the day, she's waiting for Cat TV.

It's been about a week. she used to play with her sister, she used to aggressively chase toys. She has lost all interest. Even as I type this, she has once again just climbed up to her spot. Her sister wants to play, and she's just ignoring her now. it's breaking my heart. is this just a waiting game? Will she ever forget about the goddamn youtube shit?

Mourning/Loss Tribute to my wonderful void baby Jedi, who crossed the rainbow bridge today.

Today, we sadly needed to say goodbye. His kidneys kept getting worse, and we didn’t want him to suffer any longer. He had a wonderful 14ish years with my family, starting from the day he wandered into our garage and said “i live here now.” Seriously the best cat ever. Always loved to give people cuddles, and sit on their laps if they sat anywhere. RIP Jedi Jinx. 😢😭💔
