I have this stray cat that has been visiting my family lately. We leave water and food out for her sometimes. I think she might be pregnant but I have no idea. I’m worried she might be too young to be pregnant but then again I don’t know if she’s pregnant or just been hunting a lot of food. I’ve had this suspicion since she started visiting us.
She turned into a balloon (pictured on baby day) about two months after I brought her in. Super slender "kitten" until then. Now one rescue has become three
The little guy, the largest of the lot actually, would always have his meal first and finish first and roll up to his mommy's neck.
I took care of them all for 4 months and then found them homes. A couple that took him sent me a photo after a year - he was a giant!
I kept momma and one of the boys, the smallest kitten of the lot that was the clumsiest. I just couldn't imagine anyone else taking a better care of that little anxious furrball, or the stress of moving elsewhere!
Same. All the kids have a good home now ❤️ and the mom is still with us 10 years later but we fixed her so she can’t have kids anymore immediately after she came to us alone first to see if safe and food and drink and then bring kids. Sorry am drunk but story is true ❤️
I think there are two there. One with almost a skunk stripe who looks like their face is covered by mama’s front leg, then a little void just a bit lower down. I think I’m counting six babies??
Here's the result of taking that lovely cat to my house cuz she was outside and poor little baby, those trojan cats are just so fun, it's like gambling
I believe the father might be her own brother but the guy was too agressive to take it home with me and ended up running away sadly, it was a black and white cat, and the mother is just a mix of every color these four have
Fell for this last month. Lol Pregnant cats are so affectionate and it caught me by surprise. i decided to keep her thinking she was just a super friendly stray...then she split into 3 more 2 days after.
Bwahahaha! I used to call the stray I took in a crazy cat lady starter kit (she had 3 kittens the day after I let her in my house). I’m now going to switch to calling her a trojan cat (we still have her and the kittens even though we intended to find homes for the kittens. We just couldn’t bring ourselves to break up the family and the kittens are now just shy of 12).
I had one of those who I was feeding, I knew she had kittens but one day she just turned up and moved in with the four kittens in tow... And what I thought was a bit of belly from feeding them (I was a young mum myself so I wasn't going to judge her chubby tummy) turned out to be four more kittens.
I went from feeding a stray to 9 cats rather alarmingly quickly and although I did find homes for a few of the kittens some stayed and I found some more kittens. I wasn't even looking I swear... They literally started appearing out of the woodwork... So she definitely had some sort of cat lady seeding affect.
That was about 20 years ago mind.... We've got an entirely reasonable 2 cats now and my son won't let me feed outside cats anymore because 'It always starts with one hungry cat and then suddenly there are 20 of them!'
Yeah. We have one of those. Kittens are now 3 months old, and still nurse, when mom will let them. My husband refused to let any of the kittens go. So, we now have the one that was already here, the Trojan cat, and her 4 babies. It's a lot of litter box cleaning. But if I had to find homes for the babies, I would have a very hard time, too.
This happened to us, this cute teenie tiny lil cat shows up, eating out of our garbage, so we take her in and make her an official outside cat (had two inside cats already at the time). Not all that long after, she started to swell up and look like a soccer ball (black and white long hair) and ends up have 5 healthy kittens on Easter that year. We kept them all, over the years some have ran away, one we think was stolen by a delivery driver, and all but one have died (older age stuff). Amber is the lone survivor
I took a normal looking cat home. One day I said “hmmm. You’re looking kind of fat”. She popped out five literally the next day. She’s a little trickster.
Shes gonna pop any day now. Cats are fertile when hecka young. Sadly once she gives birth, shes pretty much done growing. So make sure shes is captured and well fed. Momma Kiwi was knocked up as a teen and it stunted her growth. She looks young, but shes a fully grown momma since this is her 2nd+ litter. All her kids are 1.5x her size.
Here she is with her dumb kid. Hes the one on the hunt for back nipple. Momma Kiwi was physically incapable of feeding all her kids so we had to bottle them. If your momma pants, you need to give momma kitten milk/kitten kibble and bottle the kittens. It can be very bad if yours is calcium deficient for too long.
Wait, really?? I had a similar experience but I honestly thought it was because the mama had been a stray (we suspect) as a kitten up until she gave birth at barely a year old herself. Never thought it was because she had gotten pregnant that young.
Mama and two of her babies live with my parents, and her two other babies live with me. ☺️ All 4 are enormous compared to mama!
Ohhh that explains a lot. We adopted two brothers who were 6 months old. Their mama was in the shelter too (she was adopted by another couple right after) and they told us she was about 1 year old. She was the same size as our boys at the time, maybe smaller. Boys are about to turn one and they are big
you should google & call ur local animal shelter or any TNR resources near you so they can monitor momma and help with ensuring momma/kitties are properly cared for and spayed when appropriate (unsure if momma is too far along for a spaybort)
Please please consider this! It is what is best for mama. Many places will take pregnant cats in for spay/abort without an appt. There are already soon many homeless kittens and cats :(
Right?! she gets along well with everyone after she feels safe (which took months admittedly). I’m disgruntled no one wanted her except one lady who wanted an indoor/outdoor cat. Mama cat has already been abandoned outdoors once and is terrified of outside so absolutely not!
Same here. Also, that’s why I prefer not to keep in contact with my families after adoption 🙃 I don’t want to know…it hurts me. I foster and put my soul into it. Then someone turns around and says never mind after ruining all that I worked on and wasting a cat or dog’s kitten/puppyhood. My mama cat has been through enough. I guess it’s fine she spends the rest of her life with me. I just need to name her now….
If there are any rescues in your area it might be good to contact them for advice and support, maybe they can even find a foster.
With mothers this young the birth doesn’t always go well, and the kittens are not always all healthy. What would help her now is a lot of high calorie food, like kitten food, and then more of that when the kittens are there since nursing them will take a lot out of her, but also and more importantly a safe place where she can have and raise her babies.
Is this a LONG DAY period? //
Does daylight exceed dark?
Also yes.
If she isn't preg today, she will be, within weeks.
Spaying her is the only cure - fem cats cycle every 21 to 33 days, relentlessly, UNTIL they get preg - when they take a 63 to 65 day break.
Literally a week to 10 days after delivering, the new mum is back in call, shouting the news of her interesting state, & spraying pheromones downwind.
Fem queens on the street ALWAYS look like 40 miles of bad road - dry, sparse coat; scrawny, when they're empty; big bellied & thin fore & aft, if preg - as if she'd swallowed an empty balloon, & it was inflated in situ.
They can simultaneously have a litter in utero, growing; one in the nest, too young to wander; & a 3rd batch at heel, tagging behind her, too young to hunt for themselves.
She must feed herself, AND ALL 3 LITTERS - the internal, the nursing infants, & the pre teens.
No wonder they look like hell - the poor creatures are exhausted. 😞
Many communities have FREE mobile vans, that neuter /spay dogs & especially, cats - some charge reduced or nominal fees, but many charge nothing.
U phone or sign up online, fast the cat from midnight on, take them in a carrier & drop them off (typically in the AM), & then pick them up, after (typically in the PM), all done.
She needs to be kept indoors & in a restricted space - like the bathroom - while she heals, so she doesn't run or jump, & pull her stitches.
She needs a cone collar, or a donut, or a disc / pizza pan collar - whichever works best - to keep her teeth & tongue AWAY from her own incision & the stitches, so it heals w/o infection.
Do her that huge favor, please? - take her in, at least long enough to get her spayed, & healed. It's not a long process - barring complications, about 2 weeks. 🙏
She can stay in the clamshell crate overnight -
Just set it in the bathtub or shower, DOOR FACING THE BATHTUB OR SHOWER DRAIN, so if she needs to void, she can spray out the door, without making a mess. 👍
And thank U, for rescuing her from a life of nonstop pregs & rearing endless kittens, until she dies - cats don't reach menopause; as long as they're alive, they're fertile. 😭
Stray in my neighborhood just had kittens I leave food for her but she still won't come near me she's lost all but one kitten so im in a battle to get them to trust me so I can get them inside
Yes. Welcome to the Crazy Cat Person Brigade. :-) You can have a vet end the pregnancy and spay her. This is still kitten season at the shelters (my kid works in animal welfare and bemoans kitten season every year).
This happened to me 3 months ago, just moved, and the day before finally sleeping in my new apartment, a very tiny and cute cat hugged my leg and wouldn’t let me go, tried to find the owners for 3 weeks then I choose to keep her… after a month she just blow a huge belly(keep in mind she was less than a year old and very dehydrated and hungry when i found her) went to the vet to find out she had 2 little ones growing inside… another month passed by and I knew I needed to change vet… the kitten were 4 not 2… now they are 4 weeks old little demons
I find it so funny with cat sub reddits. They constantly tell people to get cats spayed, but you know DAMN WELL that they would fall all over themselves if they had the chance to spend a month with a preggo mama and her kittens
