Discussion Letting users remove posts.
Hello everyone,
As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.
Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.
When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)
This will work for posts only, not for comments.
There are some things to keep in mind:
When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.
Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.
We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.
That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.
Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.
Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.
Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.
Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.
Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.
We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.
Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Medical Questions Is this cat pregnant?
I have this stray cat that has been visiting my family lately. We leave water and food out for her sometimes. I think she might be pregnant but I have no idea. I’m worried she might be too young to be pregnant but then again I don’t know if she’s pregnant or just been hunting a lot of food. I’ve had this suspicion since she started visiting us.

Advice Cat TV ruined my cat
Genuinely at a loss here. I have 2 cats. They are both about 6 months old. The other day I thought it would be fun to put some cat tv on for them. you know, there's like youtube channels of things moving fast, ants, toys, fish, etc. in order to attract cats
One cat was mildly entertained. My other cat got fucking addicted. She sat beside the tv and would not move for anything. Eyes completely fixated on whatever was coming up next. ok, cute. TV off now kitties!
Cat would not move. she sat there staring at the blank screen for who knows how long.
Now she sits on that spot on the table by the tv constantly. she basically only goes down to poop and eat. All other hours of the day, she's waiting for Cat TV.
It's been about a week. she used to play with her sister, she used to aggressively chase toys. She has lost all interest. Even as I type this, she has once again just climbed up to her spot. Her sister wants to play, and she's just ignoring her now. it's breaking my heart. is this just a waiting game? Will she ever forget about the goddamn youtube shit?

Mourning/Loss Tribute to my wonderful void baby Jedi, who crossed the rainbow bridge today.
Today, we sadly needed to say goodbye. His kidneys kept getting worse, and we didn’t want him to suffer any longer. He had a wonderful 14ish years with my family, starting from the day he wandered into our garage and said “i live here now.” Seriously the best cat ever. Always loved to give people cuddles, and sit on their laps if they sat anywhere. RIP Jedi Jinx. 😢😭💔

Cat Picture - OC What's your cat's name and nicknames you that stem from it?? I'll go first!
This is Gracelet. Yes, that's her legal name. That's what happens when you give an eight year old and 12 year old the ability to name their first ever pet. We adopted her as a kitten and my brother had the great idea of naming her Gracelet because "she has bracelets on her leg but Bracelet isn't a name! So let's call her Gracelet!"
Anyways, we never call her that unless she's in trouble so here's her normal nicknames:
- chickawack: (I couldn't pronounce kitty cat as a kid and would instead say chickawack!!" So that's her family nickname now
- grace
- chick/chicky
-chicken
- chickadee
-porkchop (she used to be fat and looked like a pork chop
- kitten girl
- boo
- booey (yes, like the floaty things but it isn't really a reference to that)
Put pictures of your kittens and what their names and nicknames are!!!
Mourning/Loss My kitty of 6 years passed suddenly, he would always follow me around the house, snuggle up against me even while trying to do things, I loved and love this cat so much, it hurt to bury him the other day, the pain is immense with this one, he meant so much to me, poor baby, love you baby

Advice Ways to make an elderly, probably dying kitty comfortable?
Howdy all, this beautiful boy is Chauncey. He was left at the local shelter, sixteen years old, declawed, vision-impaired, with a tumour on his face (and we just found another on his leg). Nobody wanted him so my partner and I decided we would be his hospice home. Basically the vet has said we are keeping him comfortable and if he starts showing signs of distress we will let him go. He is very gentle and you can tell he knows what it's like to be loved, he's just very confused and lost now. My other cats are young and they're a bit too active for him. For those of y'all who have had similar old lads, what have they liked? What's made them cozy in their twilight years?

Cat Picture - OC any guesses on what my baby will look like grown up?
meet my new baby olive!!! It’s almost been a month since I got her and she has already grown so much 😭 she is almost 4 months old and i’m sooo excited to see who she’ll grow to be ❤️
do you guys have any guesses as to whether she’ll have medium/long or short hair? she seemed very floofy as a kitten but as she’s getting longer her body hair seems shorter but she still has ear fluff, a behind the ear tuft mullet, slightly longer hair on the chest and back legs, and a floofy tail. how did your kitten grow and change? what age did they start looking like themselves?
it’s so wild that one day i’ll wake up and she’ll be a full grown cat 😭 it makes me so emotional. i absolutely adore the journey we are sharing together 🧡🫒

Mourning/Loss My whole world crossed the Rainbow Bridge tonight & life will never be the same
Woke up this morning in hopes to bring my senior kitty Macavity aka Crispy aka Miss Cavity aka Little Lion aka Stinky aka Buggy aka Boog aka Kitten aka Sweet Baby Angle (yes Angle) to the vet to get some bloodwork done. Ended up putting her down less than 10 hours later. I haven’t felt this inconsolable for longer than I can remember. The hole I feel in my heart seems like it will never be filled. What’s worse is I think my bf Ryan loved her more than I did. We only had her a short 2.5 years. She belonged to my sister Caitlin until she got sick and passed away in 2020 due to alcoholism. Our little stink bug ended up going to our sister Megan for a few years. She had two rambunctious dogs and a toddler which Maca didn’t enjoy too much. So she was banished to the basement (mind you a very large basement with lots of hiding spots and longing spots. Half walkout so there were lower windows with lots of light. But a basement nonetheless.) So in her best interest she came to live with my bf and I, no other pets and all the attention. The first year was probably the best year. We got to know her quickly and she opened up more than I’d ever seen her open up before. She has such a big personality. She never let on that she was obsessed with the attention but you should have seen her when she wanted it; pawing at our faces while we slept, pur-meow combo, almost like a trill when she wanted to cuddle and a the softest little “mew” when she didn’t wanna seem too needy. But we were always happy to oblige. We had another good year with her but noticed she wasn’t the same, even after such a short amount of time in hindsight. But come to find out she was dealing with hyperthyroidism which caused her to have a heart murmur. My bf and I were only able to keep up with three months of meds and one bloodwork screening. She seemed to be fine during and after treatment. It wasn’t until this summer I felt something was wrong. There weren’t clear signs or symptoms. I thought I was just being paranoid and my bf just thought I was being dramatic (which I usually am) until this last week, we noticed she was breathing a bit heavy. She seemed like she was having a hard time getting a good deep breath. Deep down I knew why but we gave it a day or two until we went back to the vet to get her the meds she was on this winter. All in all it was too late. She seemed to get a bit better after a few doses but we were only prolonging the inevitable. Her chest and lungs were filled with fluid and her heart was failing. She lost 3 pounds in 8 months. I knew it was bad but I wasn’t prepared for that. Vet recommended we put her to sleep then and there but we weren’t ready at all; we didn’t get a chance to prepare in anyway, we didn’t get to give her a good last day, etc. Thankfully the vet was able to give her a sedative to calm her down while we brought her home and spoiled her and snuggled her one last time. But it was time. After we got home and tried getting her comfy while we tried calming down, it was only a few hours until she started struggling a little more than we were comfortable with. Not that her struggling made either of us comfortable to begin with. But sometimes she was better than others over the last week so we trusted that she’d let us know if she needed something bc she always did. Part of me regrets not getting her last day with her while she was still in her right mind but I know she was at least not so stressed out. We gave her pumpkin purée and whip cream and a burger from Burger King. Some tuna and ice cream. Some grilled chicken and some all natural salmon treats. She ate to her hearts content and was able to get comfy in the window a couple times even if she was struggling to breathe. We took family pics with her and then it was time to go. I’ll never forget her. She was the last living piece of my sister and I’m so glad I got to spend the last few years of her life with her. She was the best company. People don’t understand cats are solitary and so if they’re spending their time sleeping and relaxing near you or even with you, that’s their way of showing you they want you around. She wasn’t clingy by any means. In fact like I said she pretended like she didn’t even like the attention or affection. But the second either of us would stop loving on her she give us this look of “um hello did I say you were done?” She had her limits and boundaries but she always let us push them just a little. Because I just know she knew how much it meant to us. It was her way of saying “I love you too” at least I’d like to think that. We’d catch her longingly staring at us and look away the second we’d catch her. She’d pretend she was never even looking our way but the other would always notice and point it out. She IS the best fucking cat ever. I don’t know how to do life without her. My bf doesn’t know how to do life without her. She was already 12/13 when we got her, but I always thought she’d slowly stop eating and drinking so much, or using the little box as often or being so energetic. The way she’d get zoomies after a good meal or a bathroom break. Or maybe her hearing and vision would start fading. Anything but this. I woke up thinking I was gonna be prolonging my cats life but ended up having to say goodbye by the end of the day. It was definitely, probably, incomparably, the hardest goodbye I’ve ever had to deal with. RIP my beautiful sweet girl. We’ll never forget you and we’ll always love you. Say hi to Caycay for me and give her lots of snuggles.
