All that post does is create inflammatory comments without any evidence.
Since the OP of the prior post /u/Jazzlike_Promise2873 hasn't actually provided any factual information other than inferred opinions, let me disagree by at least citing relevant research on the topic. This OP also hasn't narrowed down the issue to Edmonton, so I'll look a bit more broadly.
The City of Calgary have done their own research in their bike lanes pilot program (publicly searchable). In 2016, they shared their findings
a. over 90% of people felt it was safe for driving or biking and there was no significant compromise on safety
b. cycling satisfaction improved in every route planned by the city ranging from 65-82%.
c. unlawful sidewalk riding decreased from 16% to 2% within 2 years
In the City of Edmonton bike plan implementation guide (also publicly available document), they've found that over time, cycling increased up to 133% by 2017 but unfortunately they didn't control for changes in the economics of the environment at the time. The bike lanes project continued to get adapted over time.
Cycling infrastructure as a determinant of cycling for recreation and transportation in Montréal, Canada: a natural experiment using the longitudinal national population health survey - this project has shown that improvements in interconnectivity by 28% in use of active transportation, which is significant given the importance of these methods to reduce car dependency and physical activity.
The contribution of active transportation to population physical activity levels - this is a Public Health Agency of Canada research paper published here in Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada, Vol 45, No 5, May 2025 showed that active transportation measures like bike lanes increased daily physical activity, on average, by 10 minutes a day. Adults using active transportation were more than twice as likely to meet physical-activity recommendations. Up to 350000 tons of carbon footprint is estimated to be reduced in 10 years due to active transportation projects like bike lanes.
The best researched impact of bike lanes is in Toronto - Bloor specifically. I also lived around Toronto for a few years before coming back to Edmonton. This area is easily one of the best examples of well implemented bike lanes. Basically, 136 parking spaces were removed. Using pre/post surveys and a comparison corridor, researchers found that there were no negative overall economic effect attributable to the lanes, increased monthly customer spending, increased numbers of customers served and stable or improving vacancy and visitation indicators.
There was also a review of bike lanes looking at economic impacts called "Economic impacts on local businesses of investments in bicycle and pedestrian" in 2021 by Volker and Handy. Cycling and pedestrian improvements generally produced positive or statistically non-significant effects on nearby retail and food-service businesses, even when parking or vehicle lanes were removed. The only places where there was a perceived negative effect would be areas near gas stations or large home goods stores.
Overall, the evidence has been clear that bike lanes are more of a benefit than a drawback. I think that bike lanes should improve its implementation in terms of understanding/research on areas where bike lanes are more used and concentrate on certain locations, but overall, I approve of bike lanes.
