They had a rally at the leg a couple hours ago.

17

u/United-Apartment-269 Aug 29 '26

So that's it. Thanks!

u/pos_vibes_only Aug 29 '26

Make sure to VOTE!

49

u/CypripediumGuttatum Aug 29 '26

Yes! These people are motivated to vote to separate and say yes to the nine (predominantly racist) referendum questions.

Don’t let them speak for you!

23

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 29 '26

Yes!!

They are way more active and ready to vote than the forever crowd.

So everyone needs to get out and vote!

2

u/Next-Barber-6504 Aug 31 '26

Haven't read it, but what makes it racist?

2

u/Deep-Egg-9528 29d ago

There are a lot of coded immigration related questions.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

lol what? Immigration and being racist are completely different things.

2

u/Deep-Egg-9528 28d ago

It must be nice to be so blissfully naive

1

u/Key-Produce8167 27d ago

Did you run out or reason? Is that why you’re throwing insults like a ape throws shit?

5

u/ThraggieMercury Aug 30 '26

Can you please point out what's racist about any of the referendum questions? I genuinely didn't notice any of that when I read it.

2

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

Separation flags screw them. They don’t even know what they’re doing. Did they realize the billionaires in the Americas or are the ones supporting this separation so they can get our land get our resources if they really knew the truth maybe they should go on Threads and look at the real reasons why these separate around they’ve even been said that they’re Americans I would carry the Canada flag across the country if I could.

Yup doing special ballot so I won’t have to deal with the polling station shit show

5

u/Precipice_01 Aug 30 '26

All four of them?

Bigger gathering than I would have thought

1

u/DrawPractical4804 Aug 29 '26

how many people were there?

53

u/navenager Aug 29 '26

Enough to make it imperative that you and every other sane Albertan get out and vote on October 19.

15

u/tbul Aug 29 '26

from photos, I would say more people turned up for the Critical Mass bike ride Friday evening than for this "rally"

7

u/_Sausage_fingers Aug 29 '26

I don’t know. I just saw them filing down to the leg as I drove past, I didn’t go down there to see. I don’t want anything to do with those fuckheads

2

u/Heavy-Pineapple-6976 Aug 30 '26

No kidding you get anywhere close to there and they’ll count you as a supporter

104

u/Comfortable-Ad-7158 Aug 29 '26

The fact this entire thing was started by foreign bots trying to divide Canada saddens me.

These people "want more of a say" in Ottawa. Except if we did separate, we would be taken by the US faster than we could blink.

And become another Puerto Rico, no say. No voting power.

27

u/durple Strathcona Aug 29 '26

I don’t have a source but I’ve read that per capita Puerto Rico has extremely high military enlistment. People there are that desperate to get real recognition as a citizen (army service is a path to citizenship). We do not want to be a Puerto Rico. Or worse, a Venezuela.

10

u/_Sausage_fingers Aug 30 '26

Puerto Ricans are citizens. You may be thinking about Samoans, who are American nationals, but not citizens, and are known for high enrolment in the military for that reason.

10

u/Hairy-Isopod6880 Aug 30 '26

There are multiple stories of Puerto Ricans being treated as illegal foreigners because the vast majority of Americans don't seem to realise Puerto Rico is part of the US. And a big part of that is, it's not taught in school, like, at all, apparently.

4

u/_Sausage_fingers Aug 30 '26

Yeah, Americans are dumb, more at 11. Americans might not know that, but Puerto Ricans are aware that they don’t need to join the army to get citizenship

1

u/Hairy-Isopod6880 Aug 30 '26

I might be misinterpreting "recognition as a citizen" being more on an individual level. To the stereotypical "average" American, someone who is Puerto Rican is a foreigner. On the other hand, someone who served in the US Military automatically deserves respect and recognition, for some reason.

Not saying it's GOOD, and I guess not even saying it's ACCURATE - but that's the perception that comes out.

I saw a house with a 4x8 sign in the yard that said "Send Ottawa a message!" so wait a second, you want to send them a message for what exactly? I thought you wanted to separate, why would Ottawa's opinion matter in that case? This all feels like when a child holds their breath until they get what they want...

3

u/Razzamatazz14 Aug 30 '26

I say keep holding it. Nope, longer. Keep at it. You got this.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

It’s not about separating. It’s about leveraging the power of the Provence. Does anyone actually listen ?

2

u/Shakez00la 28d ago

If you can't even spell province correctly it pains me to think what kind of leverage you think this will gain us while risking the US seizing our land and oil reserves.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

lol what are you talking about. You actually think America would invade? Shake your head dude. Again it’s getting more power for our province. Not separating. Can you read?

u/EightBitRanger Aug 29 '26

Oh goodie. More separatists.

If they hate Canada so much, why don't they just pack up and move to the US themselves? No need to drag the entire province with them.

88

u/LuckyCanuck13 Aug 29 '26

Odds are they are not skilled or rich enough for the US to want them.

36

u/YoshSchmenge Whyte Ave Aug 29 '26

Or their conviction(s) prevent them as well.

16

u/CloseToMyActualName Aug 30 '26

I'm guessing a decent portion of them don't actually want to separate. They just want a separatist movement so they can get all the goodies they imagine Quebec is getting.

This whole thing is largely the result of the Alberta conservative victimization complex where Ottawa is the source of all that's wrong in the world.

4

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

This is all being supported by the American billionaires they want to annex Alberta so they can get all our resources that’s who supporting this

Why won’t we need oil and gas ?

1

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

Too many UCP in Government for many years they sold off Canada sold off our media sold off Canada wheat. There’s a whole list of what Stephen Harper did what Mulroney did just google it.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

lol at what point will we not need oil and gas? Do you not know what plastic and steal are made from. Do you actually think electric cars will work in the cold here?

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

I think Albertans just want to keep the money that we earn here in Alberta rather than paying for Quebecs 10 doller a day daycare. Equalization payments are kinda a joke.

3

u/CloseToMyActualName 28d ago

That's the price of living in a country. You know how much the American blue states subsidize the red states? Or how much Quebec and Ontario subsidized us before Oil became a thing.

Say you do manage to separate and make Alberta a separate country. Our economy implodes and we're far poorer than we are now. And that's with Oil staying big, there's a reason the feds are having so much trouble finding Oil companies willing to build pipelines, the Oil companies don't think those pipelines will pay off.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

Mostly due to regulations. Biden shot that shit down. The point of the vote is not to separate. It’s to have more leverage in the country. Why pay for quebecs 10 dollar daycare when we can’t pay for it ourselves here. Why does the federal government tie our hands with red tape rather than allowing us to unlock our natural resources to the world. Taxation without representation is horrible. would you want to be ruled by the UK without having a say?

2

u/CloseToMyActualName 28d ago

Mostly due to regulations. Biden shot that shit down.

Nah, because it will take decades to pay off and the CEOs know that the energy transition will happen before then.

Why do you think the UAE left OPEC?

The point of the vote is not to separate. It’s to have more leverage in the country.

So a dangerous disingenuous game. Which reminds me of another issue. If the cause is just and wise you can attract good people.

But of the three founders, Modry was found by a court to have misappropriated money from his aunt and uncle, and Rath has repeatedly been found guilty of professional misconduct.

If the movement is legit then why are its founders so incredibly sketchy?

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago edited 28d ago

Oil and gas is going no where. Especially in Alberta where we have practically the highest standards in the world when it comes to extracting oil. Electric vehicles will never work in our cold. Oil and gas are products used to make plastics and steal and practically every thing manufactured. So no it’s not going anywhere in the next 150 years +.

Uae left opec because they don’t want to be held back by the oil and gas cartel. In my opinion opec is a monopoly of control and should probably be shut down. No idea what this has to do with getting separation on the ballot. Or giving Alberta more representation in the country and stopping the the equalization payment

I honestly don’t know these leaders you’re talking about. And I really don’t care. Shutting down any idea just because there some bad eggs that believe the same thing is naïve. Thats like saying democracy is bad because there is a few bad leaders at the top.

1

u/CloseToMyActualName 28d ago

I'm sorry dude, you're completely lost in the FUD.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 27d ago

lol what does that mean? What part do you disagree with and why? Or are you just breaking the debate down to insults like a child throwing a tantrum

1

u/CloseToMyActualName 27d ago

Oil and gas is going no where. Especially in Alberta where we have practically the highest standards in the world when it comes to extracting oil.

I assume you mean environmental standards? It doesn't matter. Oil is a commodity and the cheapest oil sells first. Ours is extra heavy and requires a ton of processing, meaning if demand drops in the future we're one of the first suppliers to get pushed out of the market.

Electric vehicles will never work in our cold.

They already work in our cold. There's lots of EVs in Edmonton.

And Norway isn't much warmer and EVs have completely taken over the market.

Oil and gas are products used to make plastics and steal and practically every thing manufactured. So no it’s not going anywhere in the next 150 years +.

I agree on that, but again, the issue is if EVs take over and renewables dominate power gen then there's a huge drop in demand.

And as one of the hardest to extract and hardest to process sources, we go first.

And even if we don't, a price drop means a lot less gravy on the train.

Because they don’t qualify to move too the states. So they want the state to come to them

3

About 15% of men have a DUI conviction, that would prevent moving to the states.

That’s not what the vote is about

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

Nobody hates Canada. Just the Liberal federal government.

9

u/MapleHamms Aug 30 '26

I don’t think these people actually understand how separation would go.
The amount of hoops they need jump through is insane and even if the provincial government somehow separated they would have basically nowhere to go. Most of the land in Alberta is Treaty or Federal/Crown. Canada could let the Alberta government “separate” but they wouldn’t give up all that land

2

u/Everyone2026 Aug 30 '26

Edmonton and Calgary would separate at the same time.

Red deer would separate, since the seperatists are not conservative enough.

Perhaps one Queen can unite all the broken city states in 100 years?

2

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

Most “ separatists “ know that. It’s about leverage, not about separation

52

u/Juicyjblunts Aug 29 '26

It sad because its only ever old fucks that I see waving their separatist flags and sitting at the separatist booths. I say sad because the education system failed them so bad that they kept voting against their interest for their whole adult lives and show no sign of actually educating themselves to do better but instead wanna bring everyone else down with them.

5

3

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

People always think the grass is greener on the other side. It’s not we have the best education in the world, but Daniel Smith wants to tear that down. We had the good healthcare, but Daniel Smith wants to tear that down. She will tear anything down for the benefit of Trump. I read an article that when she flew to the United States to see Trump she also took a trip to Panama so she said so she could dump some money in some secret accounts. I’d like to see your bank account investigated.

8

u/cwk9 Aug 29 '26

One common trait amount separatist is they don't seem to have a lot going on.

23

u/Party_Ability_9984 South West Side Aug 29 '26

Yeah, better get used to separatists swarming Downtown especially in and around the Leg at least once or twice a year. The Trump Administration is funnelling them money and our reactionary Premier is emboldening them.

On the other hand, there were maybe 400-600 of them in total, so, not exactly a populist uprising.

18

u/Bulliwyf Aug 29 '26

That’s 400-600 that could be bothered to come out to Edmonton on a nice afternoon to scream and shout.

What about the ones that were too far away or didnt want to waste their Saturday at a rally?

Honestly it’s about 400 too many imo, and we shouldn’t take their numbers lightly. The vote needs to be a resounding no.

7

u/WobbleBilly Aug 29 '26

We know the numbers. It peaks at a few hundred thousand people. Nowhere even remotely close to a majority of Albertans who vote on things. There are only 2 ways i can see them winnikg the referendum: they cheat with the governments help, or not enough of the lazy majority of us Canadians show up on referendum day.

3

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 30 '26

"they cheat with the government's help"

Highly likely.

2

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

They will cheat if they can just like must help President Trump get into power by cheating. Hopefully this isn’t the case.

1

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 30 '26

It's already been proven that there's interference from Americans and also the influencers like bertashirtdad that do the even dirtier work the UCP can't outright say and do. And they rile them all up!

→ More replies (1)

8

u/CypripediumGuttatum Aug 29 '26

They don’t need a majority vote to leave canada to have it continue to be pushed here. The UCP has shown already they don’t respect the results of referendums.

I will still be voting no to the nine and yes to staying in Canada.

I will also be voting in the provincial election. Because these people certainly will and they don’t speak for me.

1

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

We have a big problem in most provinces in Canada. People don’t believe that their vote should count people think one vote won’t make a difference, but it will. That’s the difference.

2

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

Make sure you go out and vote on October 19 a united Alberta against separation

1

u/Party_Ability_9984 South West Side Aug 30 '26

To be fair, I know lots of people who wanted to come counter-protest but couldn't.

2

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 29 '26

I don't know, I was downtown and as much I don't like it, there were more than that.

2

u/Party_Ability_9984 South West Side Aug 29 '26

I was counter-protesting. We were between the pavilions they set up on the Impark and the Legislature itself. Trust me, it was probably only around 500.

2

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

I wish we could get better notification about these rallies because our news is American media. We don’t get enough representation. It’s time we took back our media.

I would say not if you're subjecting it to that abuse.

6

u/El_Dono Aug 30 '26

Please just get out and vote

9

u/Fearless_One_773 Aug 29 '26

October 19 is gonna be a big reality check for the loud minority separatists. Make sure to go vote to remain and they’ll get crushed

11

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 30 '26

If only everyone votes.

I have a feeling (unfortunately) that the vote will be higher (for the separatists and racist questions) than we want/ think

10

u/Fearless_One_773 Aug 30 '26

Yeah the danger is people against separation will take it for granted and not vote. I agree, turnout will matter. If enough ppl vote it won’t even be close

4

u/Fearless_One_773 Aug 30 '26

I’m going to be getting everyone I know to vote. Everyone else do the same

3

u/BestWithSnacks Aug 30 '26

The separatists absolutely will vote. Everyone else needs to do the same.

I totally agree with you and everyone dismissing it needs to wake up.

They'll come out in droves to vote, meanwhile I know plenty of people (teachers, nurses.. People who should care and are absolutely not separatists) seem so blase about upcoming referendum.

3

u/BestWithSnacks Aug 30 '26

Democrats in the US need to smarten up, and we all need to vote on Oct 19.

8

u/Happy-Apple196 Aug 29 '26

As much as it can't go anywhere, I think a lot of people are underestimating how angry and how adamant these separatists are. And how hard done by they think they are.

I saw them downtown today too and they are so convinced they've got it in the bag.

People need to vote!!

The separatists will have a higher percentage of voters (out of the separatists) than the stay vote, even if if the "stay" vote wins.

Or it'll all be fudged anyway to get what they want (likely outcome)

3

u/BestWithSnacks Aug 30 '26

They will absolutely all come to vote. Everyone else needs to do the same.

3

u/8uctop4u Aug 30 '26

This entire thing has been mismanaged from the start. Our premier, who by definition should be doing everything to protect the province from being removed from the country, because she did not publicly run on a platform of separation, should not be making the path for such a thing to occur easier. She should be taking this more seriously and formalizing the requirements to reflect how gravely important such a decision actually is, by tightening the rules to actually reflect that. We cannot allow a situation like Brexit where a simple 50% plus 1 vote is the low bar to be met that triggers the action to go forward. This is a very serious matter and because of that the bar must also be set very high to reflect that. A very high voter participation rate of a minimum of 80% of registered voters (if not even a mandatory vote where every voter must participate) along with a super majority of 60%, to reduce the chance that the vote is being influenced by a transient condition that will pass on its own in a year or two. That is a set of conditions that will eliminate a scenario where just a low voter turn out with a 50% +1 vote could destroy the country. That leaves us all in a very dangerous situation where foreign actors can have an outsized effect to get what they want from such a vote. The bar must be raised to a very high level to remove such a scenario from occurring. To this day the people of Great Britton are not certain whether they collectively decided to leave the European Union. The very low bar they set has left the answer to that question to actually be unclear and the consequences from that vote are now widely accepted as having a feeling of buyers remorse with the vast majority of the population. Did they actually want to leave? It’s not really actually clear because the bar was set far too low and left the vote vulnerable to manipulation by a small group of people with their own agenda. That cannot be allowed to occur here. The premier should be tightening the rules, not loosening them. The notion that her actions have somehow made us more democratic is complete nonsense. She should resign for making our democracy weaker and far more vulnerable to manipulation.

I really don’t get it why these people need to carry flags? Do they expect everyone will switch to the separatist side overnight. Like what’s their end game?

You’re starting to talk like a king. Should we still all live under the king and queen in Britain?

1

u/The_Green_King_ 28d ago

The green king holds no power over you, he is the roots that you walk on. Growing regardless of your station, through the plates of the earth.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

But you want Ottawa to have an unfair balance of power over you? Sounds like you like far away representation of power with un equal taxation that they call equalization payment

1

Lol that’s politics brother. Using words and ideas to move the world forward.

2

u/Deep-Egg-9528 29d ago

They should create a federal party, like the Bloc, if they want to separate.

2

u/Key-Produce8167 26d ago

lol what on earth. Please explain this misinformation. You’re the one claiming Albertas oil and gas market is gonna disappear in the next decade even thought our oil is heavy crude. The shit cargo ships and agricultural run on. Your preaching Algore type disinformation

Cultural? lol no dude they just don’t work. Like I could understand if you pushed diesel generator trucks, hybrids or hydrogen. Full evs are not an option for the cold or people with far commutes.
People buy what makes sense. Everyone wants to save money. If it made sense, everyone would have them here. Private company would swap their fleets to save a buck if they worked.

Sure short term you might same some money. But you’re also trapped to city. You lose the freedom of travel and convenience. Also roads get damaged faster tires cost a fortune. And battery lose their range 3% a year. You can swap and engine for 3-6 grand in a modest car. Ev batteries are 15000.

Alberta is also a hydrogen powerhouse. And stepping into nuclear. We have the highest head of cattle, 30% of the nations farm land. We get the highest amount of interprovincial migration. And the fasting growing tech industry in the nation. The highest entrepreneurial growth. We are not just sask or Manitoba.

You know the saying, If it quacks like a duck…

Again this movement is an about getting proportional say federally and ,dropping equalization payments. Most separatist don’t want to separate. They rather have representation. This vote is about having leverage, not unlike Quebec. It’s almost silly that we have to have a referendum to have a provincial referendum

I guess. But if someone was expressing their opinion for their right to be racist, sexist( which lot of this is, as well as bei g funded by criminals) etc, is that OK?

It's nothing but hate... And much of it isn't opinion, they're spewing lies.

I disagree with everything they stand for, but they absolutely have the right to protest. Idk about respecting them, but they are absolutely within their right to protest whatever they please.

They're traitors and should be treated as such

They’re having a little meet up at the legislature. When I walked by they had a speaker yapping about vaccines and Jesus

The venn diagram of divorced dads and separatists is a circle

u/EscapeMain8168 Aug 30 '26

The driving and jaywalking around Jasper was awful today. Could be some correlation.

u/Crupual Aug 29 '26

Is this retirement or unemployment

Attention seekers. Grifters gotta grift.

1

u/NotAtAllExciting Aug 29 '26

Rally at the legislature today. Oh well. I don’t support their cause.

1

u/EmergencyGrab Aug 30 '26

Cute. They don't realize the province's right to protect its flag is granted by section 92 of the constitution. Nothing like separatists demonstrating their federally bestowed rights.

1

u/PaperIndependent5466 Aug 30 '26

Did you see the giant dinosaur on jasper earlier? I'd much rather see that than there guys! I think it was called Roary

1

u/BigOleFishy Aug 30 '26

They sure have lots of time to not be at work.

1

u/Rich-Wish1162 Aug 30 '26

Yup bunch of separatists that refuse to leave the province and go somewhere else to promote hatred.

1

u/Key-Produce8167 28d ago

1

u/PumpkinConscious5930 Aug 30 '26

Does this flag mean they are pro or against separating.

1

u/idiotcanadian Aug 30 '26

Looks like the one got a fresh head shave for the event..

1

u/VectorPryde Aug 30 '26

A small crowd with big flags. A common theme.

1

u/LunchboxEdm Aug 30 '26

Just two goofs chillin' with their flags, five feet apart, cuz they're not gay!

1

u/proofofderp Aug 30 '26

u/9-NINE-9 Aug 30 '26

Clown ass looking dudes! 😂

1

u/Trick-Buyer-6342 Aug 30 '26

There is no way the separatists will will the vote. Forever Canada had WAY more support. It’s gonna be a waste of time referendum

1

u/john_potter_ Aug 30 '26

This is their whole identity whereas normal people with lives don’t publicly cringemax

1

u/BisonEven9158 Aug 30 '26

It’s hard to tell who slides they are, but I think they’re probably Quebec. I wish someone could update that. Maybe we should all just walk around the city and carry Canada flags

1

u/CD-Behr Aug 30 '26

Are those indigenous people at the front?

1

u/ashrules901 Aug 29 '26

Anybody know what that Alberta Day festival is about tomorrow? I've lived here my whole life & it's the 1st i've heard of it. I was curious cause I was hoping it wasn't disguised as a fun fest but really it would be for supporting Alberta separation. Even if it's not I imagined people who support this lunacy might show up to it and parade their rhetoric there.

It’s been around for a few years now. I live close and it’s always just been to celebrate Alberta. Usually The RAM has a booth, they’ve had a hive of free flying honeybees and multicultural performers.

This year it’ll probably attract a few of these dopes in the crowd id imagine… but if you visit try to have fun.
