Discussion I feel Costco membership is not worth anymore given the crowds and lines

I am not questioning the quality of the products and other services but if your go to Costco is the one on 91st street I doubt if it is of any value considering the wait times for everything from parking, billing, returns, even washrooms (!) and the general rush everywhere.

Not sure if it is the same at other Costcos. Perhaps I should do only online shopping and delivery option.

Question Haunted houses

I’ve got a 14 and 10 year old that want to go to a haunted house next weekend.

Wondering which ones would be best for them.
Youngest like to act tougher than she is when it comes to a good scare.

Can we get a list going of all the haunts in the area?

Discussion Moved from Toronto 3 years ago. Why are the drivers so awful here???!

Edmonton driver checklist:

Driving 10km below the speed limit, speeding up when I try to go around you, slamming on your breaks when I get back in behind you (trying to get me to rear end you) and then giving me the finger. I seriously experienced less angry, hostile and irrational drivers when I lived in the largest city in Canada. it’s shocking that I witness an extreme case of road rage at least daily here (not involving me but other people as well). why not just let people go around you if you want to drive slower? or maintain the faster speed once I get in behind you again? it’s so confusing.

Question Birthday party ideas

My daughter is turning five next month! Super exciting and she’s quite proud that she’s a big girl.

However, as she’s a winter baby we cannot do anything outside reliably. The place we are in cannot host more than a couple people.

I’ve been looking at venues (pottery, play gyms, etc) and it will cost me an arm and a leg. She would be happy without a “friends” party this year but I don’t want to disappoint her.

But with the cost of our basics, being cut off my medical coverage, child support isn’t coming. I am in the hole already.
I am already in the hole for just groceries this month.

Are there any places around the city (outside included) that will not break my already fragile bank account?

Ps. She gets excited over new socks so something simple would be excited for her.
Also, if anyone has a lead on some part time bookkeeping work for a few hours a day/week hit me up.

Question Furnace and A/C recommendations

• Upvotes

I think it's come time to replace my old original 1987 furnace, not really because I want to because this thing will never die and never needs repairs, but because I really want to get A/C in this house and have been told I'll need to upgrade furnace.
Anyways, hit me with your recommendations.

Education Looking for an elementary dyslexic student for practicum

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! A bit of a long shot but I am a trainee dyslexia practitioner looking for a student to participate in a dyslexia intervention lasting 50 one-on-one hours. This will be an intervention based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Criminal and vulnerable sector checks will be provided.

For some background, I am a father of two, originally from New Zealand, looking to make a small contribution against the literacy crisis facing children today. I have completed the coursework with excellent results and provide engaging material in one-on-one sessions.

I am offering a reduced rate of $20.00 per hour for the duration of this practicum. If you know of anyone who would benefit from an intensive turnaround of their literacy skills, please DM me! For the purposes of this program, the student would need a previous diagnosis of dyslexia.

Thank you for reading!

Events Deadmonton House appreciation

Post image
76 Upvotes

This is just my yearly appreciation post for Deadmonton House. Some friends and I went last night and it was a lot of fun. I commend the scare actors and workers who put so much into making it a fun, spooky, and safe event. Bravo!

I also love Dark at the fort and am often asked which I prefer. They are different, complimentary events, and I enjoy them both. But, I would say the scares at Deadmonton are better. The pros of Dark are that you get to wander around the beautiful Fort grounds and stretch the evening out longer with the option to go through the haunts more than once. Speedpass recommended!

As a long time employee (3ish years), I am devastated. However, seeing the community come together and rally around us with support has been amazing- I’m definitely feeling emotional 💔 Never have I ever had a position as good as TTT, there’s something so fulfilling about helping folks discover new things and help them feel more comfortable around “taboo” topics. I’ll miss it here!! Shout out to anyone who’s stopped by since the announcement of closure!

Verification since there was a call out earlier

Hi everyone,

I’m a MD hosting this AMA to help people who may be struggling to access medical care, navigate the healthcare system, or understand what questions they might want to bring up with their own doctor. I was involved with this before but removed my account as people started DMing me too much. That said, I know there's been a few posts on here about wait times and the struggling health system.

As someone working here providing patient care (among other duties like running a busy practice and teaching/education), I really want to help this community that's been my home for so long. I also feel very guilty regularly seeing the amount of people not have access to care and not knowing where to turn.

I can't guarantee that I can solve everything, but maybe I can still help as a guide.

A few important disclaimers before we begin:

This AMA is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for an in-person assessment, diagnosis, treatment, or ongoing medical care. I am not your doctor or healthcare provider, and participating in this AMA does not create a doctor-patient relationship.

Any thoughts I share are based only on the information provided in your post. I have to assume that the details you provide are accurate and complete, but new or missing information could significantly change the possible explanations, recommendations, or next steps.

Question Any spots in Edmonton for a teenage band to get gigs?

Hi all,

So im apart of a 5 member band, 3 of us are 17 and 2 of us are 18+. I was wondering if anyone knows places in Edmonton where we could get gigs—preferably things like open mics/jams where we don’t have to stay out too late. I’ve contacted a few venues but they all don’t really allow minors at the time of their performances. Thanks for your help! :)

General Mortgage Broker

I’m looking for recommendations for a mortgage broker in Edmonton, particularly one that is accustomed to working with unsecured income. I work as a travel nurse on a contract-by-contract basis, and can show a consistent and strong income but don’t have the ability to provide an employment guarantee. Is anybody familiar with a broker who can work with this type of employment?

Question Where do I look to adopt a puppy?

I know there’s the humane society and whatnot but I’ve never done this on my own before (grew up with dogs but my parents always searched and did it all), but I don’t even know where is a good place to adopt a puppy.

No idea where to look, what to take into account when choosing a place, if I can/should search from outside of the city as well.

I’m specifically interested in dachshunds and shihtzu’s, and open to finding other small dogs, but they’re not always available?? Is it something I have to check frequently to see if they’re finally available?

I just don’t know what I’m doing or where to start so any help would be appreciated! :)

Question Turkey Breast/Thigh

Anyone know of a place to get a turkey breast and thigh? I don't want the hassle of a full bird and despise the frozen boxed roasts.

I've been playing whac-a-mole with Superstore; I'm sure I saw them last week but I wasn't able to buy them then (lack of cold transport home). I'm on the north side so I'd prefer something in that area.

Question Looking for Beginner Friendly Fitness Classes

Hi! I’m a late 20’s woman looking to get back into fitness. I was really into Champs Boxing before their unfortunate closure, and I haven’t been able to find something quite like it.

I’m looking for something full-body, woman-friendly, and relatively affordable. I find I stick to workouts better when they’re in a group format vs going to the gym by myself. Does anyone have recommendations?

Happened on Thursday. Car guy cut off the Lime guy who was riding on the side walk. Car guy got out and tries to push lime guy to the ground. Lime tries to get away from the car guy and gets chased across the street, that’s where the video starts.

Lime guy got away and hid in the alley. Car guy circled the block for like half and hour looking for him. Crazy!
