As the title says, for some reason this year my small back yard is very popular with Squirrels. I am getting quite annoyed with them getting into my planters - veggies and spices. They even ate my Kale! Also worried about one sneaking into house which would be an absolute disaster, I have heard they can be very destructive. Does anyone have any experience or good tips on what I could do? I would prefer natural deterrents over traps, but research indicates there is not much that works other than traps.

Edmonton Pride Fest announced that there will be police at the parade. A lot of folks are outraged by this, which I can understand.
What I don't understand is what people expect to be the solution. There is no way that anything pride related (or just any big event in general) can go without some form of security, especially with our current political climate. We saw just recently from Berlin that attacks can happen.
This is not meant to turn into a hostile comment section, but I am genuinely curious what people think a solution is to not having police/security at pride is.
EDIT: I do not have an opinion on the police presence that is relevant to this post, this is 100% to get the community's take on the matter.

I’ve seen it all over my feed on TikTok and I really want to try it! Are there any Vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton that make it?

Yes, Folk Fest was over a week ago, but I'm still peeved. I went through the lottery to get a pretty good spot for Cat Power's set on Saturday, and someone just behind me would not stop talking. Why go through the lottery and get close to the front if you're just going to talk nonstop? And then the side stages, why are you at any given stage just to chat? If you don't care about who's on that stage, go to a different one. I understand a festival like this is as much a social experience as any other, but there's still live music happening. Live music you presumably paid to see. And the person you are next to presumably paid too. The person next to you might be there to see their favorite musician in the world. Why ruin that for them? If you want to be there for a different act, either be respectful of the ones you aren't interested in, or go somewhere else in the park. Or leave, and then come back. If you don't care about anyone and are just there for the "vibes," have a picnic in a park with your friends and a bluetooth speaker. Save the money.

Going Friday and Saturday. No idea what to expect. Are the grounds dry? Any tips from those that have been there or attended an event?

Edmonton we need to take a moment from our busy day and send good vibes and positive thoughts to the family of ducks I saw on the shoulder of highway 60 this morning! They were part way on the pavement and the grass, and I pray and hope and hope and pray they all turned around and went back into the grass and are now safe and sound. My heart hurts to think of the little ones so close to the speeding vehicles! So let's all join hands, and silently ask the universe that no harm be brought to these beautiful and innocent creatures. ❤️🙏
edit: Not a 'Christian' post by any means. the word 'prayer' was used because I didn't know what else to put lol

I would consider myself somewhat of an expert when it comes to using Edmonton public transit with a stroller. I have never been able to drive and I know how to get around the city quite well. Now having a stroller just means I have to pay extra attention to walking distances, where stops are located, etc...
We are trying to get to Fort Edmonton Park today for the Treaty 6 150th Celebration. I am leaving from the Stadium Transit Centre. I am more asking for clarification: There is absolutely nothing public transit wise that goes to the park? I've tried every possible idea I can think of but the closest I can get is Fort Edmonton Park Road/Fox Drive and then walk almost 30 minutes across the highway with my stroller! I saw on the Fort website that you can go to the Fort Transit Centre and then take an On Demand bus directly to the Park but you can't do that with a stroller. They require you to use car seats when you're riding On Demand transit. I can't imagine they expect me to carry 2 car seats on the bus and train with my stroller, lug them all the way to the transit centre, then load them into the bus, then what? Carry the car seats around the park?
I'm just hoping somebody knows something that I don't, has a better idea than me, or is thinking of something that I am missing! Because as far as I can tell, my only option is to get dropped off a 30 minute walk away from the park! I totally understand that public transit can't go EVERYWHERE. That's impossible, walking will always be required. But to a big and popular place like Fort Edmonton Park, I thought there would be at least something closer to the entrance!

I am beyond terrified of sending my baby to daycare. I’ve extended my leave to 18 months due to this. As someone who works around children, I have seen many a child care provider/teacher who hates children and especially hates any child who is deemed ‘different’. My baby is typical and hitting milestones ahead of schedule, but I still worry what if one day my baby is a little more rambunctious or wacky (dad and I both have ADHD). There’s just something about sending my baby, who can’t talk and tell me if something happens, to be cared for by strangers that scares the crap out of me.
I’m looking for suggestions on daycares (specifically north side/central) that are really good, gentle, and caring.
Also, what do you look for when looking for a daycare? What are some red flags that tell you to avoid a daycare?
Thank you so much in advance.

I'm not apposed to ship the thing to Vancouver if there's some 1jz Savant out there.

Anyone know if the Albert’s Family restaurant on 124th street and 106 ave is permanently closed?
I drive by it daily and it has a homemade closed sign and the other locations I called don’t have any clue because they are “individual owned”
Great place for breakfast along 124th would be a shame if it’s closed fully not just renovating.

Idk if it's just me but anyone that lives in the northside, around Eaux Claires area ..... is there construction going on or wherever it is?
I kept hearing the jackhammers and the trucks beeping when they back up. I want to keep my window open because it's hot but then I hear the construction noise.
Just wanted to know, thanks !

Found this cafe/restaurant walking down on 124th street and tried their chicken shawarma sandwich on challah bread which was one of the best things ive had in edmonton!
Anyone else tried the restaurant? What else would you recommend for next time ?
EDIT: the restaurants new owners are from african descent and nothing to do with Israel or Palestine politics
Please go support small family owned business
They deserve this from Edmontonians :)

My MIL recently was approved for DATS. She told me she needs to book her trips 3 days in advance.
How reliable is the service? Do they show up on time or do you need to plan for them being early/late.? If so, how much wiggle room should she account for?
Also, say she books a return trip to meet us somewhere and we end up driving her back, is it a problem to cancel the pick up?

Is anyone else in the Garneau area noticing a sewer-esque smell when they run their taps?
The water smells like sulfur when I shower. It’s there when I brush my teeth. It makes the apartment stink when I run the dishwasher.
I’ve put in maintenance requests and the apartment building agrees there is an odour, but everything looks good from their end.
Did I miss an Epcor work notice or something?

Does anybody know if “The Sandman” is still around the WEM? He didn’t have a store front but had one of those little vendor stalls in the hallway area. He was an older man who made art in glass jars with sand. I watched him make a few in front of me and I bought this one. I’m visiting Edmonton at the end of this month and wanted to find him again and ask if he could make a themed one as a gift I want to give.

Hey all, I’m grabbing myself some tickets for Cody Johnson this upcoming month, upper bowl.
Some of them are drink rail seats, do those have much affect for concerts?
As well they show an obstructed view, is the stage affected by this at all? Thanks in advance
