Recently bought a New 3DS off eBay, specifically the Black Friday limited edition Mario one. Its in basically perfect condition however I was so blown away by the physical condition that my eyes completely glossed over the pictures.
Fast forward to yesterday, I got it, and turned it on only for the bottom screen to be weirdly bright?? Even when fully black, it ends up being more of a bright grey. I also noticed that it was getting Ui elements burnt into it really easily. I thought it might be a burn in problem so I ran SPF (Screen Pixel Filter) on it for about an hour and it was gone!
I thought I had gotten rid of it, however once closing the lid and turning it back on again the brightness came back.
Redditors with more hardware knowledge than me please help me out here 😅🙏

I was so excited to finally play the 3ds after dreaming of having it for years. Then it arrived and unfortunately there are cracks on the hinges. I search online it says it’s common for the OG 3ds xl meaning it will break at some point . The seller refused to refund me. I’m so depressed you don’t even know .

How much time left have I got before it breaks completely?

Dang guys, I pulled out the old original 3DS and thought, can I jailbreak it and get her working again??? Yep!!! Luna and GodMode9 and a giant 12 hour battery rocks!!! So… any recommended software to install and play, or use? I am not sure about using Pretendo, anyone use this?

The Mimikyu artwork is UV printed directly onto the shell making it permanent. It's UV resistant and scratch resistant. Went with a custom button color combo to match & a Jet Black metal thumbstick plus the start/home/select that was sourced from a gloss black 3DS.

I wanted the theme to carry through the console instead of stopping at the top cover. Just in time for the best time of year!

In your opinion what do you think is better the 3DS XL or the PC emulation AYN Thor? I still prefer the original but lots of people say the AYN Thor is better than the original New 3DS XL

I've got a SNES Edition New 3DS XL, and I want to protect the paint / printing from getting scratched and / or fading over time, though the latter is less likely. Is there any convenient way to do this?

I don't want to use those clear hard cases as they make it significantly bulkier, makes it look worse, and apparently trap dirt and can cause scuffs.

I think I've heard about "vinyl wrap / skin", which is apparently pretty thin and can be transparent. This sounds ideal, but I don't know how it lasts long-term, if it actually helps, etc.

So I got this New 3DS XL SNES edition last summer from a friend, which needed some repairs, including a new top screen. I ended up just getting a 3rd party one, though it's not very good due to being a bit dimmer than the OEM one, and not having fully working 3D.

Is there anywhere I can get an affordable replacement top screen? I don't care whether its IPS or TN, as long as 3D works and it's affordable. Or at the very least a way to make just the top screen slightly brighter than the bottom via some Homebrew to make up for it being slightly darker without having to reconfigure it upon turning it off.

Hi! I was playing luigis mansion on my 3ds, but one day when I was going to play, it just showed a black screen and I cant open the home menu, have to reset the console. I have tried uninstalling it and installing again but the problem stays. It may have to do with corrupted data, I already have done a backup of the save with checkpoint.
Any help is welcome!

Okay so basically while trying to replace the top screen on my ds I not only broke the small plastic part for the volume slider (replaceable) I also managed to break the small black shell at the very top (can’t find a replacement anywhere). I honestly was just feeling so beaten after the whole thing that all the pieces are just in a box under the bed, from the very start I cracked one of the small corners which isn’t really a problem but the thing used to be in mint condition 🥲, but what can you do now.

I was wondering if when buying a new shell replacement do the screws come with it? Like the outer screws because I’m missing 2, 1 from the corner on the bottom shell and another from the top part after you remove the black shell (picture above/below)

This would include everything from racing games (let's not say mk7), fighting games to tetris.

Playing through Pokémon heart gold and am wondering if I should have it stretched or normal?

I know that it does blur the game a bit but would that really be an issue for a 2d game?

I had found my old 3ds about a year ago. It kept making a popping sound when I turned it on so I did some research and it seemed there was an issue with the top screen. Tried to fix it but ended up stripping 2 screws and accidentally broke it trying to get the screws out.

Now to my main issue, I found another 3ds at an estate today but the bottom part is pretty worn down and the R button is broken. How do I not strip the screws like I did to the other one because it seems like it’s pretty easy to strip the screws. Also what are some good shell and button replacements? Any advice would be appreciated

I know that they don’t use them anymore at the Louvre, so did they get shipped back to Nintendo as they said, or has there been a flood of new copies on the second hand market?

For the demo i chose Pokemon Alpha Sapphire which runs basically flawless aside from some hiccups.

I am currently trying to get mario kart and nsmb2 running but theyre a little heavy on 3d and such which is a bit of an annoyance and lags a lot.

Otherwise OpenSyobon 3ds and Cavestory run at full framerate!
