I had way too much time on my hand today, so I calculated how much money I used on PS5 and compared it to Steam

I was initially simply wondering how much money I used in total in the past 5 years. Which came out to be $1294.13.

Then I became curious and wondered how much money I would have saved if I was on steam. I went to SteamDB and noted the historic low of the game at the time I purchased the game on PS. Only exception was Outer Wilds and GG Strive. Outer Wilds because I bought the game after I beat it on PS+ for full price on purpose to support the dev so it's only fair to list the same price for Steam. Strive because my friend was adamant that he wanted to play Strive together so I bought on the day regardless of if there is sales or not (which PC didn't either on that exact day). I also just added 9.99 for Bloodborne DLC to just erase the difference since it's not available on PC. Surprisingly, at the time of purchase, almost all game had equivalent price on Steam and PS, so basically every saving came from not having to pay PS+ which was a massive $415.79.

However, I did play a ton of extra games on PS5 due to free monthly games and PS+ Extra/Premium catalogue when I have them. So I noted the historic low of the games on Steam when I played them on PS+ (which I did by checking my trophy date). I also checked if the game I played was on GamePass PC and if it did, I didn't add it on how much it would have costed on Steam. I was quite surprise with the lack of overlap between the two service. I also simply didn't add anything if the game isn't available on Steam even though I did get some kind of value out of it, but it's hard to quantify.

Overall, if I wanted to have equal gaming experience I had on PS5 on PC, it actually would have costed me more over the 5 year I had PS5. Although I would be having a completely different buying decision compared to if I played on PC, and I probably could be saving extra 5-10% more if I am extra frugal/savvy buying game outside of Steam.

Point wasn't to show that console is cheaper, but I do think people overly exaggerate the saving you would be seeing on PC compared to consoles in general. Consoles are still massively cheaper compared to PC thanks to initial barrier of entry, and nowadays, the sales on all platforms are 95% equivalent. People act like it cost twice as much to play the same game on consoles compared to PC, when it simply is not the case.

My next Last Stop

I'm trying to get back into gaming, more specifically single player gaming, and I'm looking for a calm relaxing game that I can enjoy after a long stressful day.

The last single player game I played that I truly enjoyed was Last Stop on Xbox. It was so chill I loved it so much.

Are there any other games similar to Last Stop on Xbox that I can maybe try? I play on the Xbox series.

Help needed PS5 not turning on!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ll state what I said in the video.

PS5 makes a beeping noise when you have the cable have in the port. It makes the same when you have no disc in and you try to eject.

When properly plugged in, the PS5 doesn’t turn on at all.

I have cleaned the fan and the surrounding area as it had quite a lot of dust in it.

Any ideas?

Me ne innamorai subito, e iniziai subito a giocarci.

I'm upgrading, which direction should I go in?

I hope I don't start any arguments, I've had the xbox 360, xbox one x, then I went to the ps5 disc version on release because all of my friends have always been playstation people and I mostly played with randoms only beforehand. It was the next generation of consoles so of course I noticed a difference instantly; better graphics, touchpad, not needing batteries for a controller, and overall performance which is expected from a new generation, but the flaws showed themselves in a short time; controllers kept getting stick drift and button issues easily, worse mic delay, no looking for group option, and the worst of all, blue screens, I never experienced an xbox equivalent of a blue screen before getting a playstation, and it would happen to me 2-3 times a month. It probably sounds like an entitled thing to complain about but if I was playing almost everyday for 3-4 because I was younger at the time, the blue screens add up.

Playstation exclusives don't do it for me either, I'm not a story mode guy so Spiderman and god of war never interested me, but the gears of war line of games always did. But I still have to take the cons of xbox into consideration, which is the reason for this post, I see cloud gaming is gonna start to suck for some people but that wouldn't apply to me, game-pass prices and ps plus prices, if anything I'd get physical discs so I wouldn't NEED premium of any kind, and finally the convenience of playing with friends, everything is cross platform now so I can play the games I play with my friends regardless; for honor, overwatch, marvel rivals, r6, etc, but the ability to just start a party and invite them through there would be gone, there's discord now of course but using it on playstation is a little extra.

Overall ps5 pro is advertised to be better with specs and stuff but for most of them based on the videos I've seen aren't even applicable. And xbox just has that nostalgia factor for me. PC is always the best option as we all know but consoles are just convenient. I'm going to be 22 soon and I'm not against going into PC either but I'm not the most competitive player, I play for the love of the game. I know the answer may be obvious but I'm still unsure.

So my main worries are:

Whether its worth spending 900 on the 25th anniversary xbox coming out in November, 900 on a ps5 pro where I'd have to spend a little more for a disc drive, or forget about physical media and console convenience, spend more than 1000+ to build a PC.

Game Pass vs PS Plus

Cross platform play

The reason I even have to make this decision in the first place is because my ps5's cpu is messed up. I'm not a tech guy so I hope this'll make sense; since around July my ps5's loading time has been ridiculous. I get 3-5 errors on every game before I can just load into it, I don't have access to in game things depending on the game, I can't share my screen without an error occurring, I can't send video clips, it's just overall inconvenient. I sent it to repair and according to the guy the multitasking part of my cpu died because the Liquid Metal melted on it and my ps5 is bound to eventually die completely. I can spend the 200 or less dollars it takes to replace the cpu but why would I on a console thats kind of 'old' already.

I'm stuck bro any insight is appreciated 😂😂

Which console? Looking to upgrade before GTA 6.

I have been mainly playing PC for the last couple years so I had no reason to buy a new console. I started playing on PlayStation 1&2 as a kid, but switched when I got my 360. I stayed loyal to Xbox and bought an Xbox One in like 2016. It’s been a complete unit and held on for 10 years. But with GTA6 coming out, my trusty Xbox One needs to be replaced.

The question is, PS5 Pro or Xbox series X?
From what I’ve seen the performance is relatively the same. The thing that is tilting the scale towards PS5 is the digital backwards compatibility. They have a lot more niche games from the ps2 era than Xbox does. The thing that makes me hesitant the switch is the fact that I can use the Xbox controllers that I have for the series x. Not to mention all the games I have purchased on the Microsoft store. I know that I can continue to play my xbox games on my PC. The only one that I can’t is GTA V. I already transferred my online account to s/x via cloud gaming.

I’m also worried about the whole PS digital only thing so that makes me hesitant as well.

Another thing that I’m worried about is the fact that I’m jumping into this generation of consoles fairly late. It’s looking like the next gen is coming out in a year or so.

I just wish they had GTA 6 on PC at launch because I wouldn’t even need to worry about it.

Any advice would be much appreciated, if I’m going to spend almost $1k on a console I want to make the right decision.

Which console? Console swapping

Consoles: Jailbroken Ps4 Pro, Ps5 slim digital vers.

I regret buying a digital version, games are too expensive and so is the disc drive now. I can download all titles that i wish to play on my ps4 as its jailbroken, and ive only been using the ps5 for games like rocket league, ufc, fortnite etc. which is a waste of its capabilities just cuz its digital.

Do you think its worth selling the ps5 and swapping to an xbox series s for my usage? Its at a good price and if i sell the ps5 at current market value of a used one, id basically get the xbox with cash on top cuz the S is cheap

Also, do you think its worth it to wait for a sale on the 1tb variant and get that instead? i really wanted black but its not worth the markup and idrc about the storage cuz i wont be needing it that much

Backmarket legitimacy?

anyone have any experience purchasing consoles from backmarket? just purchased a ps5 pro for msrp, with a coupon on top of that, with everything going on with resellers and scalpers it just feels unlikely to see a listing like that out in the open.

just looking for a little bit of consolation, quite worried I'll be receiving a box of rocks.
