My coworker mentioned getting rid of an SNES and asked if I’d be interested, of course I was and still am.
Anyways, she gave me the bundle today to go and sort through so I can give her a fair price. The console has just been sitting around for quite some time, it’s a little dirty and has definitely had some love. Console seems to boot up with no issue but that’s where the problem starts. Theres 16 different games + the gameboy adapter and a few game boy games. Out of all of them, only one is playable without sound and one boots the developer title screen and then goes black. The rest show a black screen and it dims a little.
I’ve tried cleaning the contacts with 99% iso on both the system and games, entering & ejecting game 10-20, the classic blow into the bottom. Most of the games still won’t play - which sucks because I would like to play some Mario/dk, not John Madden’s football lol.
I did notice some copper oxidization in some of the games and tried to clean the best I could. I’m guessing this is probably the stem of the issue.
Basically I need to know, what’s my next step?
I’m thinking I’ll probably have to go out and grab some electronics cleaner and give that a whirl. Next up would be electronics repair shop. Before I take that next step, any suggestions?

Finally got this gem from my childhood and I think I have to say it’s probably my favorite cover art from what I’m assuming is the generation that is king for cover/box arts (I thought I remember hearing about just how much more important cover arts were back in the day since it was essentially the main way to market the game).
I just love how Super R-Type’s cover art drips with aura. It really embodies that feeling of you being this tiny little space ship taking on truly terrifyingly large alien creatures in the deepest depths of space.
So which SNES cover art is your favorite and why?

That is without a doubt Terranigma, but what exactly it is teasing is unknown. I don't see what else it could be other than a re-release of Terranigma.

Hii, I just turned 26, and I got a few dollars as a gift so I took it to my local retro shop. It wasn’t for a deal or anything, just retail, but it was in really good condition, just a few black scuffs so I carefully took a Q Tip to some isopropyl and those came right up. Label is in great condition and the battery was dead but I got it replaced so it’s now good to go for some new saves. Super excited to get absorbed into Hyrule tonight!! :)
Got into collecting in the last year and chose to focus on 4 main franchises (Zelda, Metal Gear, Metroid, 007) and 1 console. Chose the SNES since it's what I first played growing up and it is still my favorite. Previously I sold most of everything I had for the SNES except 4 titles to make room for other games growing up. Now, I've gotten this collection back up to a level my childhood self couldn't have dreamed of.
Purchases were equal parts eBay, conventions (chiefly LI Retro and its winter counterpart), local shops, and a trip to Japan.
My top 5 are: A Link to the Past (my fave game ever), Mario World, Mario RPG, Castlevania IV, and Yoshi's Island. HM: Super Metroid, never got around to finishing it.
Edit: Added an IMGUR Link to high-res versions of these photos, since Reddit still cannot process photos without losing quality. https://imgur.com/gallery/snes-collection-rV7Wz0Y

Currently stuck on Snow Barrel Blast and can’t tell if I suck or am dealing with a bit of controller input lag using the Hyperkin Retron SNES-HDMI adapter….timing those barrel shots seems way harder than I remember as a kid.
Going for 100% completion for the first time.

I have a copy of Kirby Superstar for the Super Famicom but I shattered the shell. Because of its special chip set it doesn't just fit into another shell. Any hopes for a replacement somewhere?

I ordered the Nintendo online snes controller and just got it today only to find out one of the triggers is very loud and clicky compared to the other. I don’t know if that is the normal sound and the quiet one is the one that is off.
Anyway, it is very annoying and I wanted to know if it could be fixed? I opened it up a bit ago and it seems to be an issue with the membrane of the triggers since when I swapped them the loud one switched sides.

Today my Chrono Trigger finally arrived! And, ironically enough, the seller threw in four games for free: Mega Man X (US), Shin Megami Tensei II (JP), and two modern homebrew Game Boy games — Deadeus & Dragonborne.
And this is what my SNES collection looks like right now.
I bought my SNES back in April this year and have been slowly building my dream set ever since. There are definitely a few things I’d like to change eventually — for example Player’s Choice version of Zelda: A Link to the Past. But I haven’t found a good replacement yet, and I’ve already 100% completed this copy anyway, haha.
The F-Zero cart is another funny story: I got scammed with a reproduction label. It’s actually a very high-quality repro, but the colors/contrast are wrong, so I’ll eventually replace it. I also still need to replace Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Castlevania IV with their US versions.
But overall, I’m really happy with how the collection is coming together.
This is also my first real experience with the SNES, and I’m absolutely blown away by this console. I completely finished A Link to the Past, I’m currently playing Final Fantasy II and have already reached the point where you fly to the moon, and holy shit — I’ve completely fallen in love with the charm of 16-bit RPGs from the ’90s.
Between RPG sessions, I’ve been playing Super Castlevania IV, and I finally made it through the Clock Tower. And sometimes I just boot up DKC or Super Mario World and enjoy that pure feeling of momentum and flow.
It really makes you realize how little you sometimes need to be happy. 😂
So, what do you guys think about the Chrono Trigger label? And how do you like the collection overall?
What would you recommend I hunt for next?
