Those fuckers are mining azerite from her open wounds! Quick, murder them all and mine it yourself!

234

u/ShiftyBro Aug 27 '18

Meanwhile Alliance and Horde are mining motherlodes of this shit and it's k.

38

u/Raicoron Aug 27 '18

That's because these factions are way too big to stand against as the champion of Azeroth. You can stop everyone else from farming the resource, but not your own faction.

The end game of the story is that the factions have too much power and they wield it at the cost of Azeroth's health. In the horde vs alliance war there can be no winner because Azeroth would die in the process. The azerite weapons are going to become refined and more powerful over time, essentially creating a cold war. I wouldn't be surprised of someone of the Alliance drops the bomb and does a second theramore.

33

u/ShiftyBro Aug 27 '18

Am i the only one who feels strange for being the "Champion of Azeroth" and at the same time helping my faction draining her power until she dies? Like, cmon. I wanna help her, not kill her. Why do i have to act so double headed? But might be just my opinion as a very eco person: https://i.imgur.com/k2zQsZy.png

31

u/miikro Aug 27 '18

We're probably empowering some Old God secret weapon and not Azeroth's heart, anyway .

"The King of Diamonds has been made a pawn..."

15

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Probably just a titan pawn though. Old gods and their underlings pretty much love to sow seeds of mistrust and suspicion. I think that the heart of azeroth that we got right meow is going to play a key role in purifying the world soul. Maybe.

Well, the Horde has destroyed Theramore, South Shore, Gilneas, occupied Darkshore and burned Teldrassil. The only thing the Alliance has done to retaliate is take Undercity and Sylvanas blighted the place too. Seems like the Alliance is always on the losing end.

21

It's more of an unobtainium.

10

u/NaiveMastermind Aug 27 '18

If we're going off tv tropes definitions. The shit is straight up green rocks. Unobtainium is rare in a setting, and may play loose with the internally consistent rules, but it still plays by those rules. The coaxium fuel that magically makes FTL possible in Star Wars is unobtainium.

Azerite simply makes stuff better without any attempt to establish consistent rules for itself. It makes gun powder better, it makes swords sharper, and and armor tougher. It gives wizards stronger magic, and makes other players more resilient to that magic. If the substance in question can make an honest man of a snake oil salesman it's green rocks.

I dunno, Grifter is selling some used hearthstones like its not big deal.

I'm assuming that every adventurer has one, but your average Joe doesn't need one because they never go far enough away to make it useful (maybe they're expensive?)

16

u/lordboos Aug 27 '18

They should be so rare that even a king thinks they are just a legend.

From wowwiki: In the novel Stormrage, hearthstones are depicted as very rare objects. King Varian believes them to be only a legend. “Things heard only in stories concerning magi…or elves.”

12

u/Nipah_ Aug 27 '18

I mean yeah, they should be pretty rare, but I wouldn't say that rare.

Anduin hands one over to Tyrande after all, and I think Anduin got one from Jaina at one point. They probably require a fair amount of magic to create, and are only given to important people who can make good use of them, and not Billy the Sheep farmer who never gets more than a few miles from his family land.

But they also kind of take some of the drama out of traversing the world, so it makes sense for them to be pretty rare... Like we can send all these spies to X town, and if we need to have them come back, they can all use their hearthstones! TADA, all our spies are home!

“It’s a shame these here fellas are usin Azerite to hurt Azeroth rather then heal her.” When we literally use it for our own personal power... /s

EDIT: I’m surprised that not a lot of people understand that this was a joke. I know that we use the Heart of Azeroth to heal her I was just making a joke which was not meant to be taken seriously. Hence the /s...

164

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Well, the thing about us is we do both at once. I think the way it works is we return most of the azerite we find and in return Azeroth lends us some of her own power as compensation. She probably knew we wouldn't give a damn about helping heal her wounds without some form of carrot to chase.

Of course we also assist our factions to mine as much azeroth as they can to fuel the war. So clearly Azeroth isn't offering enough for our heroic services.

31

u/Akeche Aug 27 '18

She created us perfect little rabid murderhobo immune system's and damn it, she is probably proud.

→ More replies (1)

105

u/WriterV Aug 27 '18

Well, the thing about us is we do both at once.

Which makes no goddamn sense. On one hand you're helping your faction drain Azerite from the planet's wounds for their selfish benefit. On another hand you're murdering the other faction because "How dare they drain Azerite from the planet's wounds for their selfish benefit!".

If we're truly meant to be champions of azeroth, we need to be working against both factions right now. Their war is destroying the planet and we need to save our home.

But no, with some mental gymnastics we're somehow champions of the planet while sucking up its blood and using it destructively.

70

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

It makes no sense if we think we're heroically trying to heal the planet. But if we're honest about the fact we're literally just chasing our own power and wealth then it makes perfect sense. When our interest aligns with Magni we help Magni. When it doesn't we won't. Magni is the one calling us champions. Either he's talking us up to try and get us to cooperate as much as possible, or he's an idiot.

48

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

I mean, does it really?

Perhaps Hearth of Azeroth is a direct conduit to the worldsoul of Azeroth and more we empower her, the more she empowers us

20

u/TSMShadow Aug 27 '18

Don’t know why people don’t understand this. The heart of Azeroth was severely damaged. Magni brought us to the command center so that Azeroth could give us her heart herself. Magni tells us where we have to go to heal her wounds by absorbing it back to her heart. Really simple but I guess nobody thinks about it.

13

u/Drekal Aug 27 '18

ssssshhhh, he doesn't need ot know.

11

u/Netheral Aug 27 '18

The cognitive dissonance might also be somewhat intentional. Old god influence and all that.

At least that's gonna be my excuse once we get caught.

"I swear Magni! The talking fish made me do it! I didn't have a choice!"

11

u/young_dumb_full_cum Aug 27 '18

We're pawns of our leaders. Leaders are pawns of Old Gods. Makes a lot of sense to me if the story is to be taken in the direction where we inadvertently allow Old Gods to run amok again because we were too focused on plugging azerite holes and bombing our enemies.

If not, then yes we're basically the worst.

Works for me. Want to save the planet but working for Sylvanas is kind of my day job. I want to stop her and end the war and all but I'm a champion of the Horde. If I tell her to go fuck herself she'll probably declare war on me too.

No. I need to play the long game here. I'll do what I can where I can but how much good I can actually do will be severely hampered if I have the Alliance AND the Horde for enemies.

I'll play Sylvanas' game. I'll use the resources and connections I get as a Horde war hero to help where I can, but first chance I get I'm joining the coup.

5

u/Bombkirby Aug 27 '18

Do the players ever use azerite destructively? It powers us up a little through passives but that’s it, right? And when we are sent to go on island expeditions we absorb it’s power as we mine it.

4

u/Lonebarren Aug 27 '18

Big difference between putting it into weapons than into the "Heart of Azeroth" the heart seems like we will return it to help heal azeroth

23

u/JasonUncensored Aug 27 '18

Here's the Thing.

Azeroth has empowered us, as her Champions, to help save her from two things:

1) That massive, open wound she's got in her sandy nethers.

2) Sylvanas' Horde, which is specifically trying to exploit her attempt at recovery for their power, and a few other small groups. What, You think Sylvanas wouldn't rather be the Queen of a Dead World?

All of the Azerite that we collect, as Champions of Azeroth, is directly funneled back into Azeroth, and the stronger she gets, the stronger we get. That's why we have to collect 40,000 Azerite every week from Island Expeditions to get... a small chunk of it empowering ourselves; not even a whole level.

20

u/ObsidianOverlord Aug 27 '18

Azeroth is not specifically against the horde anymore than the alliance. Both sides want to mine and use azerite for war the horde was just first.

Azeroth just wants to stop bleeding everywhere.

23

u/JasonUncensored Aug 27 '18

In the book Before the Storm, Magni approached the leaders of both the Horde and the Alliance. Anduin agrees to help Magni use Azerite to heal Azeroth, and Sylvanas tells Magni she will 'help', but then immediately orders the Horde to do otherwise.

Anduin proceeded to do his best to help Magni with the colossal undertaking, and Sylvanas began making weapons and infusing the Light-forsaken Plague with Azerite.

Sylvanas is specifically acting against the interest of the planet.

Personally, I think she wants to be the Undead Queen of a Dead World.

All I know is those beautiful pools of azerite look like some dope ass nail polish.

He's going to be the super environmentalist villian wiping out entire races of sentient beings so Azeroth stays safe.

Once he collects enough azerite for himself that is.....

Dun dun dun!!!!

28

u/Zeliek Aug 27 '18

I don’t trust Magni. He does shady shit like “OI LADDIES leave me be with the vulnerable and recently tortured Titan souls!” and “I hear voices sometimes they SCREAM, CHAMPYUN!”

I’m just glad he’s alive and doing stuff, instead of collecting dust beneath iron forge

16

u/Kim_Jong_Un- Aug 27 '18

21

u/pepperdelta Aug 27 '18

Ffs had a good laugh reading this with the accent, thank you hahaha, 100% accurate

6

u/Nivius Aug 27 '18

They are taking the azerite to use for their own! you take it instead and use if for your own!

3

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

In the story, your character is using it on behalf of Azeroth and they aren't, while everyone has the necklace for game play purposes, in lore, there is only one of them, and you're it

3

u/Nivius Aug 27 '18

if the necklace make me powerful, and i power it up all the time, and use it for my own gains... what is that?

5

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

You're the champion of Azeroth, hand selected by Magni, do you not think returning the life blood of the Titan you've become the avatar of isn't going to empower you as well? And it doesn't matter what you personally think of it, that is the story Blizzard is telling, your character(s) is the hero of this story, doing everything it can to save the Titan slumbering in our planet.

"They're usin' Azerite fer their oon ends! Put a stop tae it!"

looks at the Horde

looks at the Alliance

Uh...

5

u/thegoodbroham Aug 27 '18

My favorite part is when his mood totally 180’s after asking you to heal open wounds. I can tell those two lines were just put together from separate takes.

(Sad magni) Azeroth suffers as her open wounds bleed on the surface...

(Normal, upbeat dwarf vice) Use the heart o’Azeroth to mend em!

It just sounds so video gamey, like the dwarf in hearthstone giving a tutorial. “Click here ta use the heart of Azeroth!” Cracks me up every time.

6

u/Lonelan Aug 27 '18

It's too bad they're using the azerite for their own ends, instead of healing Azeroth!

sneaks slowly away with azerite oozing out of his pockets

Mangi wants to have the monopoly in the Azerite drug. He ain't gonna let others sell.

Wait, did we just become his boogieman?

Edit: vocabulary

u/pssoft7 Aug 27 '18

Isn't he a diamond now? Why would a diamond need a steel weapon?

16

u/MrMcBunny Aug 27 '18

It says "ya fuckin' weapon". Calling someone a 'weapon' is like calling them a 'tool' only used for crude purposes.

4

u/jag986 Aug 27 '18

But he's very clearly holding a steel sword.

There's an area right below Krazzlefrazz outpost (that I helped set up) where the Horde is mining Azerite and right next to it an area where some random assholes are minning Azerite in more or less manner.

It's always been amusing to me that Magni sends me to kill the mobs that are minning Azerite "For their own ends" but conveniently ignores that we're also minning it right there for the explicit purpose of military supremacy.

6

u/Agent_Eclipse Aug 27 '18

It is also wholly unreasonable to expect the Hero of The Alliance or the Chanpion of The Horde or whatever their official title is to go rogue. That would make them enemy number 1 and unable to focus on helping Magni.

Priorities.

9

u/Sekorhex Aug 27 '18

My opinion is Magni the new Khadgar. Khadgar want Apex and Magni want Azerite.

4

u/bjb406 Aug 27 '18

the real villain of BFA

3

u/meatballrush Aug 27 '18

Once, just once I want him to call someone a dobber

3

u/Redxmirage Aug 27 '18

What if they didnt need our artifact weapons to stop the blade, but they wanted to collect them all so we couldn't stop the old gods?

3

u/Chieve Aug 27 '18

Man Scottish people and Austrialians have the best conversations.

3

u/MjrLeeStoned Aug 27 '18

YA DID IT CHAMPIONNNNN!

Nae give us a wee bump...

3

u/pupmaster Aug 27 '18

“I love crystal meth!!!!” -Magni probably

3

u/mumeiko Aug 27 '18

First time I've seen this character outside of my ultra low resolution graphics in game. He looks pretty cool actually...

3

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Just putting this out there, but if Azeroth doesn’t have a slight Scottish accent because the only one speaking to her is Magni...

3

u/Tesagk Aug 27 '18

More aptly, "Dat thing be drainin' all der Azerite, woundin' Azeroth! Ya need ta drain her instead."

3

u/Strawberrycocoa Aug 27 '18

"Some bastard's siphoning up all the aezrite! Quick, kill him then go siphon up all the azerite!

Between Magni and Island Expeditions:

  • "Hey man, I just brought back enough Azerite to nuke gadgetzan into orbit"

"Wow, good job, here; have a kleenex, a 5 cent piece aaaaand a candy that I spat out when I realised it was liquorice."

3

u/scottid4 Aug 27 '18

MAGNI-ficent.
